Top dressing of tomato and pepper seedlings with folk remedies
Content:
One and the other culture are representatives of the Solanov family. They occurred on the territory of the hot and dry part of America, in the Central and South. Next, let's talk about: feeding tomato and pepper seedlings.
Top dressing of tomato and pepper seedlings: basic requirements
As for the temperature conditions, they are similar for tomatoes and peppers. Both cultures love warm temperatures that don't change much throughout the day. Not too these cultures favor very hot weather (above thirty-five degrees). It is also unacceptable to lower temperatures for a long period (11 - 15 degrees). At the same time, tomatoes and peppers can tolerate a short drop calmly.
When growing in seedlings, a sufficiently warm temperature regime must be observed, since if the temperature is too low, the plant stops developing. At the same time, the necessary nutrients begin to be absorbed poorly.
Let's say a little about lighting. Tomatoes love when there is a lot of light, there should be at least twelve light hours a day. Cloudy cloudy weather is not very suitable for tomatoes. When growing tomato seedlings, be sure to take care of additional lighting, because when growing seedlings, natural light, as a rule, is not enough.
As for the peppers, on the contrary, he does not need a lot of light. Enough eight hours a day. However, additional lighting for seedlings still needs to be installed. Next, you need to plant peppers on the bed so that there is enough sun, but not too much. Otherwise, a bountiful harvest will not be seen.
Now about watering. That one, that another culture does not tolerate too much moisture, as well as cold water temperatures. The temperature of the water is especially important for the pepper. So, for example, if it is lower than twenty degrees, then difficulties may arise with the development of fruits. Tomatoes should be watered regularly and evenly. Otherwise, the fruit may crack. It is important for tomatoes and observance of environmental humidity. It should not be high, as there is a risk that late blight will develop.
When it comes to fertilization, it is worth recognizing that both crops do not take too much nutrients from the soil. Peppers prefer potash supplements. Tomatoes love phosphorus more. Both crops will not appreciate fertilizing with fresh manure and lots of nitrogen.
Both plants love not heavy soil, a rather loose structure. It must pass water and air well. Fertility is moderate and acidity is neutral. Tomatoes, in principle, can be grown on land with low acidity. Loams are contraindicated for these crops, as well as too acidic soil.
Let's talk about the requirements for planting peppers and tomatoes. What do tomatoes prefer? Firstly, tomatoes will not mind if you transplant them often enough. When the root system is damaged, it will subsequently recover in a short time and grow with even greater vigor. Secondly, tomatoes like burrowing when planting. The stem of the plant, partially submerged in the soil, builds up adventitious roots. Accordingly, the area where the plant takes nutrients becomes larger. Thirdly, tomatoes need a large enough space between the bushes. So the wind will "walk" unhindered, thereby ventilating your landings.
As for peppers, here the situation is directly opposite to the preferences of tomatoes. Peppers should not be repotted often, because the roots cannot recover for a long time, and because of this, the plant stops developing. It is also impossible to deepen the plant during planting, since the stem, immersed in the ground, can begin to rot, which will lead to the death of the plant. Peppers, unlike tomatoes, need a little thickening when planting. A little shading is needed for the fruit to ripen well.
Top dressing of tomato and pepper seedlings: folk remedies
There are constant disputes among summer residents about the use of chemical fertilizers in vegetable gardens. Some say that there is nothing wrong with the use of chemistry, others are adherents of exclusively natural ingredients. The main problem is that there are no instructions as such for the use of folk remedies.
Whatever you use, purchased chemicals, or alternative methods, in any case, plant nutrition should be in balance. Let's dig a little deeper in the direction of chemistry, because it is not rational to apply any fertilizers without understanding it.
-Undoubtedly, nitrogen fertilization is necessary for almost all plants. Nitrogen is an essential component for photosynthesis. Thanks to nitrogen, both crops are overgrown with greenery.
- For plants to bloom normally and give a good harvest, phosphorus is necessary. If this substance is not supplied in the required amount, then the ovaries of plants begin to fall off. Thus, we will not see a good yield.
- In order for the roots of plants to develop normally, potassium is needed. Its absence or shortage threatens the death of tomatoes or peppers.
Why are folk remedies so good? In their composition, almost all of them have the necessary substances. These tools are usually free. Among the advantages is the fact that the seedlings absorb such dressings very well.
If we talk about the introduction of natural products, then the rules are no different from the principles of applying chemical fertilizers.
When calculating the amount, always remember that if you add too much of certain substances, this can turn into problems. But if something is not enough, then nothing terrible will happen. Fertilizers should always be applied to moist soil. As for the seedlings, it is better to choose the morning hours for feeding. If you apply fertilizers in liquid form, then the temperature of the solution should be about 22 - 25 degrees.
Let's say a few words about how to recognize the lack of certain nutrients.
If you see yellowing of the lower part of the foliage, while the turgor remains, this indicates that the plant needs nitrogen. You will recognize that there is not enough phosphorus by the violet tone of your seedlings. If the leaves begin to dry out at the edges, then potassium is required. Saw a yellow color between the veins on the leaves, add iron. Even if you water your plant well, and the foliage still withers, then most likely there is not enough copper.
Ash
This is practically the most popular top dressing among adherents of folk remedies. The good news is that the use of ash is permissible during the entire growing season. The ash contains a large amount of essential substances for the culture. Is that their concentration is different. This remedy not only feeds your plants well, but is also a good prevention against diseases.
So, for example, an earthen flea is a big enemy. It can do great harm to your seedlings. But if, after pouring your tomatoes or peppers in the morning, sprinkle a layer of ash on top, then the problem will go away. You need to repeat this procedure three to four times. It is important that the ash is on the seedlings for no more than four days. There is a risk of over-feeding. If the conditions are such that you have to water your plants once every 4 to 6 days, then you can sprinkle the soil with ash once.
It should be noted that for all these procedures, it is necessary to use wood ash. If the ash was formed by burning synthetic materials, or gasoline or ignition was added to the fire, then such ash should not be used as fertilizer.
By the way, the composition of the ash still strongly depends on which plants were burned.
- Ash obtained from deciduous trees has a large amount of calcium
- Ephedra give more phosphorus
- The largest amount of potassium is found in ash obtained from vineyards and grass
- If you use peat ash, then keep in mind that there is little potassium in it, but there is iron and lime
- If you have ash after burning a birch, then this is very good. This ash has a very balanced chemical composition.
It is best to add wood ash after it has been infused for 24 hours. Calculation of proportions: one glass of ash is enough for eight liters of hot water. After that, you need to strain your solution.
Natural preparations
Often, for better seed germination, gardeners soak them in growth stimulants. We will tell you about such preparations of natural origin.
- Aloe juice is a good way to stimulate growth. You need to cut off the leaf and wrap it in cloth. After that, put it in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks, or in the freezer for two days. After the elapsed time, squeeze the juice and dilute one to one with some water. Soak your planting stock for one day. Remember to get aloe juice without using metal objects.
- Infusion of ash. In such a solution, the seeds of both crops can be kept for six hours.
- Few people know that dried mushrooms can be used to stimulate growth. Cover them with hot water and let cool. The seeds need to be kept in this infusion for about six hours.
- Honey is also actively used for these purposes. One teaspoon for one glass of warm water will be enough. Also keep the seeds for six hours.
- You can use potato juice. After you've peeled 3-4 potatoes, put them in the freezer for a couple of days. Next, you need to squeeze out the juice and soak the seeds for eight hours.
There are also folk remedies that are applied directly to the soil. So, for example, the remnants of brewed coffee (very thick) can become a good top dressing. The same ash can be added to the soil when you sow the seeds.
Folk feeding of tomato and pepper seedlings when two true leaves appear. You need to complete these procedures no later than 2 days before planting in the soil. Infusions with nutrients should be applied every ten to fourteen days. But remember that overfeeding is not good either. Here are some more options for natural feeding:
- Banana peel contains a lot of potassium in its chemical composition. The peel of 4 bananas is filled with three liters of warm water. You need to insist for three days.
- Egg shell. Remains of the shell from three to four eggs need to be crushed a little and insisted in three liters of warm water. The infusion can be used after three days.
There are other excellent feeding options that gardeners actively use on their plots. However, they cannot be used for tomatoes and peppers.
- Too much nitrogen is found in humus, herbal teas, green fertilizers
- Do not use yeast-based fertilizers. Because of them, potassium decomposes quickly. And also the addition of yeast promotes too vigorous plant growth.
- Tea brewing. Has a lot of tannins that can harm seedlings of peppers and tomatoes.
