Ornamental plants are an important part of any garden plot, they give it brightness and volume. Fescue is considered to be the most favorite perennial herb. All plant species retain their beauty all year round. Therefore, decorative fescue is especially popular with both ordinary gardeners and landscape designers.
The plant forms spherical sods, more like bumps with thin leaves, like hair, of different shades.
There are the following types of fescue:
- Gray fescue Is the most popular type. The plant reaches a height of 20-40 cm, while forming a dense, dense hummock. Gray fescue retains its attractiveness all year round. In the spring, the plant needs to be combed out, not pruned. The main condition for caring for gray fescue is to divide it every 4-5 years, if this is not done, then it may begin to rise above the ground. And die in severe frosts.
- Gaultier's fescue or "emerald hedgehog" - this type of fescue will not leave anyone indifferent. It is best to plant this species in the foreground of the site, since it reaches no more than 10 cm in height, the ideal solution is to plant it among the stones. Gaultier's fescue is always decorative, it grows quickly, but neatly, while creating a lush turf.
- Species fescue - during the flowering period, the airy panicles of the species fescue fascinate, and after flowering, dry inflorescences also perfectly retain their decorative effect.
Both an experienced gardener and a beginner can plant fescue on their site. She does not require special care for herself. The plant tolerates drought and frost well. The ideal place for planting fescue is a plot with good sunlight. The only thing to consider when caring for a plant is to divide it every 4-5 years. If you carry out regular division of the bush, this will preserve the decorative effect of the fescue. It is worth paying special attention to watering the fescue; abundant watering can lead to decay of the horse system. Fertilizer is rarely applied, no more than once a year, and even then an insignificant part of mineral fertilizers.
Fescue propagates in two ways - division and seeds. If you have just decided to decorate your garden with fescue, then you need to plant the seeds purchased in the store in early February in seedling containers. Before planting fescue, it is recommended to soak the seeds in warm water with the addition of potassium permanganate.
Fescue is not susceptible to attacks by pests and various diseases, with the exception of fungal infections, and they can appear if the plant lives in damp, flooded soil.
Decorate your garden with lush, light fescue and enjoy its beauty all year round.
