Grape processing
Content:
Plants, like humans and animals, are susceptible to various infections and get sick from time to time. And in this case, one cannot hope that the problem will resolve on its own, inaction can lead to the death of the plant. Therefore, as soon as you find the slightest signs of disease on the grapes, immediately begin to act. Better yet, do not wait for the onset of the disease and carry out preventive work. Processing grapes will help to avoid many problems.
Treatment of grapes from diseases and pests: schedule
We are not talking about unscheduled treatments now, when grapes were attacked, for example, by aphids, or any disease is rapidly developing. No, now we are talking specifically about preventive treatments aimed at precisely protecting the vine from the appearance of harmful insects or the development of infections.
Put the grapes in order first. Tie up, if necessary, then routinely cut off the shoots, tear off all leaves that look damaged. All of them must be burned if there is an infection - this is the only way to cope with it. Loosen the soil gently so that there is no hard crust.
Grape processing in spring
It is very important to carry out spring preventive treatment before grape buds wake up and swell. In different climates, this happens at different times, but in the middle lane it is worth focusing on the second half of April or the first days of May.
The air temperature should be kept at least + 5 ... + 7 degrees. It is worth starting the treatment by spraying with a three percent solution of copper sulfate, which better than any other agent protects against diseases and protects against rodent attacks.
Then, after waiting 14-18 days (at this time the first leaves will appear on the grapes), treat the plant with a fungicide. For this, the drug "Nitrofen" is perfect. In a ten-liter bucket, dilute about 250 grams of the product and use the solution to spray the vine.
The beginning of flowering... This is the last spring treatment and should be done a couple of weeks before flowering begins. Due to the peculiarities of the climate in your area, this may be the last days of April or the first half to mid-May.
Most often grapes are affected by powdery mildew (mildew) or common (powdery mildew). In the first case, the fight should be carried out with drugs containing copper, such as "Azofos". In the second case, the most effective will be preparations containing sulfur ("Kumpus" or "Quadris").
Even before the beginning of flowering, a grape mite may already appear on the plant, in this case it is necessary to add treatment with acaricides of your choice ("Actellik", "Tiovit Jet").
Summer grape processing
During the ripening period of the crop, one must be especially careful with the treatment with drugs. But on the other hand, the spread of diseases should not be allowed. So when the grapes are the size of peas, it is worthwhile to carry out preventive treatment again.
For spraying, use Topaz or Ridomil Gold preparations. And then, at intervals of 20-25 days, treat the plants with agents that protect against fungal infections - "Quadris", "Flint Star".
Such treatments must be carried out before the first days of August. If you nevertheless find spots and plaque on the leaves of a gray color, it means that gray rot, and it is necessary to additionally spray the plants with potassium permanganate, and remove the affected leaves.
If oidium appears, the plant can also be treated with potassium permanganate (if grapes are still ripening on it) or with Flint Star or Storby preparations (if the crop has already been harvested).
Autumn period
This stage of processing is also very important, since the health of the grapes depends on it in the following winter months, when, while under cover, it can be damaged by mice or infected with a fungal infection.
For processing, use ferrous sulfate, spraying the vine with a three percent solution. When making shelters, spread poisonous baits near the plant for added protection from mice.
Grape processing with vitriol: copper and iron
It is important to use preparations containing copper or iron in this order: copper in the spring and iron in the fall.
Why is it so? The fact is that spraying with iron sulfate can slow down the development of a plant, and copper does not have such an effect. Therefore, during spring treatments, copper sulfate is used. And in the fall, when the plant plunges into a state of dormancy, it is iron.
Complex treatments
It often happens that in order to achieve the best effect, several highly targeted drugs must be used. Therefore, in order not to carry out many treatments in a short period, tank mixtures are prepared.
In other words, a plant cocktail is obtained that provides comprehensive protection against both diseases and harmful insects. To prepare such a remedy, it is necessary to dissolve each drug in a liter of water, and then combine everything together and bring the volume of liquid to the recommended dose.
In this case, the amount of water does not need to be increased. That is, if your instructions for each drug indicate to dilute it in ten liters of water, then the volume of the complex product should be just ten liters.
By following the schedule and carrying out timely treatments, you will ensure that your grapes do not get sick.
