Sea buckthorn tree in the garden
The sea buckthorn tree requires harvesting when the berries acquire their color and size, usually they are orange. Some varieties are dark orange in color and are cylindrical in shape. Chuy variety The sea buckthorn tree has an orange fruit and an oval shape.
For example, grade sea buckthorn tree gift garden has a dark orange berry color with a red bloom, and the shape of the fruit is elongated-oval. The fruits of this culture are usually used for pure consumption, and they are also used to make juice or boil compotes, some make jams.
It is better, of course, to collect fruits from a sea buckthorn tree, when they are not yet very crumpled and not crushed, and then they overripe and it becomes difficult to collect them, juice runs out of them, such berries are usually not taken for processing.
The fruits of the sea buckthorn tree are usually collected in boxes or baskets, or boxes with a capacity of up to four kilograms can be used. To prevent the juice from the berries from dripping through the holes, put a film or a bag on the bottom of the container.
In order not to carry a large basket around the sea buckthorn tree, I use half-liter glass jars to which a rope is tied and for convenience, such a device is put on the neck, and the fruits of the sea buckthorn are collected in it, as the jar is filled, it is necessary to pour them into a large basket.
To clean the fruits of the sea buckthorn tree from accidentally caught leaves or twigs, use a special device - trays that need to be installed in a slope, so the fruits will roll from the tray into the container, and the leaves and twigs will no longer get there. Harvesting sea buckthorn is not an easy job, since when harvesting it is necessary to separate each berry by hand from each other.
Harvesting sea buckthorn berries is complicated by the fact that the fruits have a very thin peel, a small stalk, the fruits are very close to each other, the branches of the sea buckthorn are prickly and not strong, they are quite easy to break. Therefore, you need to be very careful when collecting it.
To collect fruits from a sea buckthorn tree, a special device called a "cobra" is sometimes used.
To make this device, take a steel wire, bend it in the form of a loop, and bend the ends at right angles inside the loop and attach it to a wooden handle. Next, in the grooves made with a sharp object, put the bent ends. Wrap the place where they are fastened with copper wire so that it holds well, you can still wind electrical tape around the top of the wire.
After all the manipulations, make the image of a burning candle from the end of the loop, and bend the loop on the side with a snake. Such a loop will spring, and it will be convenient for you to cut the stalks. It is also very convenient for them to remove the fruits themselves.
Sea buckthorn reproduces green and lignified cuttings, grafting and offspring... The easiest way of propagation is, of course, by root suckers and woody cuttings.
To propagate by cuttings annual shoots that are well ripe are cut off from healthy bushes, which are up to five years old. Shoots are usually harvested at the beginning of winter. Some, of course, cut off shoots in early spring, then these shoots are stored either under the snow, or in somewhere where the temperature reaches minus two degrees.
As soon as the snow has melted, the shoots begin to cut into cuttings an average of 15 centimeters long. Next, the cuttings are soaked in water for a couple of days at room temperature.
In the ridges, cuttings must be planted in an upright position, the distance between rows is up to seventy centimeters, and in a row up to 15 centimeters. Outside, it is necessary to leave two or three buds, the soil around the cutting must be pressed, watered and mulched with peat.
After being planted in the first three weeks, it is necessary to water a couple of times a day, as well as loosen the soil and pull out weeds. If you take good care of it, a good sea buckthorn tree will already grow by the fall.
Reproduction of sea buckthorn by root suckers.
For this method, it is necessary to separate the offspring from the plant itself with a pointed shovel in the spring and leave it in place until autumn, so that it grows its roots.
Before separating the offspring, determine which plant the offspring belongs to, male or female. Water it constantly in the summer. In the fall or spring next year, it will need to be dug up and planted.
