The nuances of buying a new garden
A new garden is a responsible decision that should be weighed more than once, taking into account many factors affecting further arrangement, use and preparation.
In a hurry with the choice of territory, summer residents often spend a large amount of money and effort to correct the general situation, and all because they did not approach this issue with the proper level of responsibility. Let's figure out how to choose the right place for your future garden plot.
First of all, you should pay attention to how exactly the place is located towards the sides of the horizon. An ideal place, if in the future you want to grow berry and fruit crops, can be considered a site with a slope to the south or southwest.
Such a new garden is characterized by rapid drying and warming up in the spring season, a significantly better level of sun illumination - thus, the plants will not only be protected from exhaustion, but also their growth and maturation will accelerate.
Also, thanks to this location of the site, you can start the process of tillage and planting earlier. Particularly sunny places with a warm climate allow harvesting up to several times a year, but this still applies more to certain regions.
Fruit crops prefer areas located in the lower and middle parts of the slopes, the steepness of which should not exceed 3 degrees. This is due to the fact that dry air, which is typical for such places, provides the necessary protection for plants from scab infestation, therefore, the dynamics of maturation is accelerated.
Fruit trees should be planted closer to the southern slopes, as their bark undergoes better maturation.
But reality does not always correspond to expectations. In what areas is it not recommended to equip a garden, grow plants and, in principle, make attempts to fix something?
Refuse to consider options for places located in lowlands, hollows, where there is usually a high level of humidity, as well as low temperatures - in such conditions, most vegetation may simply not survive, even if drainage systems are arranged and the proper level of insulation is provided.
Such places are characterized by severe frosts, the duration of which is relatively longer than in a suitable landscape. Worst of all, with an increase in the period of frost, the normal cycle is disrupted - the plants begin to freeze in spring, almost in the process of flowering, which, of course, has a detrimental effect on most crops.
It is also important how the garden plot is located in relation to the wooded area, if there is one nearby. It is favorable if the site is completely adjacent to the forest, especially from the east or north.
Why is that? The fact is that tall trees growing in the forest begin to protect the garden area from strong cold winds, which at one time or another can cause irreparable harm to plants.
You are also lucky if there is a natural reservoir in the immediate vicinity of the site, for example, a lake, pond or a small river - the level of air humidity rises, which is a protective measure against drought, reduces the risk of consequences from temperature changes in relation to vegetation, which is especially important for return frost.
Also, the presence of a reservoir contributes to the general well-being of the microclimate, its stability, so try to take this factor into account when choosing a site suitable for yourself.
It is necessary to make out in more detail the nuances of the landscape, thanks to which it is possible to arrange competent plantings that will receive a sufficient amount of heat and light during the most important period of development and growth.
The most favorable location can be considered a slope in the southwest or in the south, it is there that the highest productivity and rich harvest of certain crops are noted.
If you use slopes in the north and north-west for cultivation, it should be remembered that there are lower temperatures, the soil warms up much more slowly after the winter period, which means that, in principle, the whole process of cultivation, processing and planting of plants slows down.
There is a risk that the plants planted later will not have enough time to develop to the new cold - and so on in a vicious circle. Ultimately, there is a delay in vital processes, cultures cannot adapt to harsh conditions and die. In particular, this applies to fruit and berry crops, the planting of which is better, in principle, to refuse in such areas.
If your new garden is located in an elevated and open area, then some plants also may not take root in conditions of increased exposure to winds and droughts. In this case, it is necessary to think about arranging a protective strip - a fence or hedge, which can provide at least partial protection from wind flows from the north.
Avoid mainly closed-type places, hollows where a cold climate and early frosts prevail, in such conditions almost no culture can take root and you will simply waste your time.
The choice of a site is a delicate and painstaking business, difficult at first glance, but if you correctly assess the situation and approach the matter with knowledge of the issue, then this will not become an insurmountable obstacle for you.
Weigh all the pros and cons, correlate desires with opportunities and acquire the most favorable territory for your future garden plot!
