Raspberry Tarusa: planting and care. TOP tips for growing
Content:
Raspberries are a fairly popular crop in summer cottages throughout the country. It is grown in different conditions, with different agricultural techniques. The harvest strongly depends on what kind of care is provided to the plants, but also not an unimportant factor affecting the yield is the correct choice of the variety. It is better to choose varieties tested by time and experience, such as raspberry tarusa.
Raspberry tarusa. Characteristics of raspberries as a crop
First of all, it should be noted that the Tarusa raspberry variety is a perennial plant and a representative of the Pink family. Raspberry stems are straight. The culture belongs to deciduous shrubs.
In the first year of life, the plant has grassy-green stems, then they begin to grow stiff, and after all the fruits are harvested, the stems begin to die off.
Raspberry fruits are complex, depending on the varieties, they can be of different shapes, different colors: from yellow to black.
This culture perfectly acts as a honey plant. The flowers on the plant are arranged in a special way, and therefore, even when it is raining lightly, the bees can still pollinate the raspberries.
For the first time, raspberries in cultivated form appeared in the 16th century, and since that time there are more and more varieties of raspberries. Raspberries can be repaired and not repaired.
The difference lies in the characteristics of fruiting. Relatively recently, breeders have bred varieties that have an unusual shape of shoots, such plants are called tree-like or standard plants.
They have strong shoots and are thicker than other raspberry varieties. And in its shape, the tree-like raspberry resembles a compact tree.
Raspberry tarusa - variety description
Raspberry Tarusa was bred in 1993 by a breeder from Russia. Tarusa was the result of crossing two hybrids from Scotland. It was from them that Tarusa took over the large size of the fruits and the abundance of the harvest.
The varieties of domestic origin that participated in the selection of Tarusa, in turn, brought good resistance to low temperatures. As well as strong immunity against various diseases and harmful insects.
Berries of the Tarusa raspberry variety are very large in size, many times higher than the average. There are specimens that in their weight can reach about fifteen grams, and the length of the berry is about 5 cm!
The fruits are colored red. Tarusa has a characteristic raspberry aroma. Tarusa tends to bear double fruits, which has a good effect on the weight of the berry, as well as on the yield level.
The Tarusa raspberry variety is fruitful, from one plant in one season you can get about four kilograms. There are more. This number of berries is the largest among other similar tree varieties of raspberries.
The fruits may not crumble for a long time, remaining on the branches. To taste, Tarusa is sweet, dessert, has a pleasant refreshing sourness in the aftertaste.
In shape, the Tarusa raspberry bush has a rather decorative appearance, the plant is compressed, has strong shoots, which reach about 1.5 meters in height. In the lower part, the plant has no side shoots, they can only be seen in the middle and above.
Thus, the shape of the crown of the tree is obtained. Tarusa forms lateral shoots very actively, their number, as a rule, is about 10 pieces. They are about fifty centimeters long.
One of the undoubted advantages of the Tarusa variety is that the plant has no thorns. It helps a lot while caring for raspberries and also makes life easier when picking the fruit. Tarusa gives few replacement shoots, but there are enough of them for the purpose of propagating the plant.
Tarusa tolerates low temperatures, down to -30 degrees. The shape of the plant is also convenient because if the winter is very cold, then the low shoots can be easily bent to the ground and covered with snow.
Please note that you need to bend the shoots very carefully, and not sharply! This must be done in more than one run and until the moment when the frost sets in, since at this time the shoots become brittle.
As for the ripening time of the Tarusa variety, it belongs to the mid-late varieties. As a rule, the fruiting period occurs in early July - late August.
This indicator strongly depends on which zone your raspberries grow in.
The Tarusa berry has a rather dense structure, which makes it easy to lay and transportable, the juice does not stand out for a long time.
Features of growing raspberry tarus
What does raspberry Tarusa look like?
The Tarusa raspberry tree is not a very capricious plant, however, when it comes to tree varieties, there are some subtleties of agricultural technology and care. For such varieties, in particular for Tarusa, the composition of the soil, the presence of moisture, light and fertilizers are very important.
Let's start with a description of Tarusa's soil requirements. This is a variety that loves fertility. The soil should not be too heavy, it is better if it is loam or sandy loam soil. The composition must necessarily contain a sufficient amount of organic matter.
You can't get a good harvest on sandstones. Since your raspberries will have too little moisture and therefore you will not be able to collect many berries, and if they are, then their size will hardly please you. Even watering the plants frequently will not help.
The best solution in this situation would be to add organic fertilizers and a small amount of clay. If the soil, on the contrary, contains too much clay, then add sand. The acidity of the soil also plays an important role.
If the acidity level is less than 5.8 units, then the raspberries are unlikely to like it. It is better if the acidity is at the level of 5.8 - 6.2 units.
In the case of too acidic soil, add lime to it, before that, carefully studying the instructions for use.
If the planting of Tarusa raspberries is planned for the spring, then it is better to lime the soil in the autumn. Immediately before planting raspberries, no lime is applied, because then your land will lose a lot of nitrogen.
As for the moisture level of the earth. Tarusa does not like too dry soil, but it should not be too wet either. If the water table is too high, then this place is not suitable for growing raspberries.
Otherwise, the root system runs the risk of rotting from excess water. The ground should be slightly damp, but moisture should not stagnate.
If the weather is dry, water your plants at least once every ten days. This is especially true of the time when the berries begin to pour.
When watering raspberries, try to keep the root system moist. This layer is usually at least 25 centimeters.
If you don't want to water the raspberries too often, then mulch the ground around each raspberry. For these purposes, as a rule, any organic matter is used. But do not put fresh sawdust near the plants.
As for the thickness of the mulch layer, it will be better if it is about 10 cm. If there is more, no big deal.
Now about the light. The Tarusa raspberry variety has a very positive attitude towards the sun. If it is not possible to arrange the landing in a lighted place, then find a partial shade. The shade for plants is not suitable, because in such conditions, raspberry shoots begin to stretch.
At the same time, the yield becomes much lower, and the quality of the berries suffers from this. The more sun your raspberries receive, the sweeter berries you will get.
Growing raspberries Tarusa involves a site that is reliably protected from gusty winds and drafts.
The fertilizers you use for your raspberry plantings play an important role. If the variety is selected productive, then food should also be supplied in the proper amount.
How to care for Tarusa raspberries?
The tree variety of raspberry Tarusa has a high yield, for this reason fertilization is very important. Raspberry Tarusa requires an unequal amount of different substances.
How to feed Tarusa raspberries? To ensure that your plants have enough potassium, add three to four hundred grams of wood ash. This amount is enough for one square of the area.
Ash needs to be applied under each bush, slightly covering the soil. Once a season is enough. It is better to do this in springtime. It is not necessary to loosen the soil deeply, as you can hook the roots, which are located in the upper layer.
In addition to the fact that wood ash provides plants with valuable potassium, it also gives phosphorus and other important trace elements, and also prevents the soil from increasing the acidity level.
As for nitrogen-containing dressings, the Tarusa raspberry loves them very much. One time won't be enough here. It is best to use the following recipe: water (10 liters) + urea (10 grams) + manure (1 kilogram).
The components need to be mixed well, and then water the planting. One liter of solution is enough for one plant.
The first time you need to fertilize is during bud break. The second and third time, fertilizers are applied at intervals of two weeks. Be sure to water the raspberries after each feeding. However, do not water during heavy rains.
Fertilizers from herbal infusion will also benefit Tarusa. It should be dominated by nettles.
Do not use a metal container to prepare the herbal infusion. The grass should occupy two-thirds of the capacity, the rest is occupied by water. This composition must be insisted throughout the week.
Before applying top dressing, dilute the infusion in a ratio of 1:10. Consumption is one liter per plant. This top dressing can be used two to three times per season.
During the formation of buds, you need to carry out foliar feeding. For this, as a rule, fertilizers are used in a complex containing a trace element. Gardeners often use Ryazanochka and Kemira - luxury for this.
One and a half teaspoons of this or that drug is enough for one bucket of water. Fertilizing the leaves should be done in cloudy, dry weather. The leaves should be well wetted thanks to the sprayer. Before evening dew appears, the solution must be completely absorbed.
In no case do not use fertilizers containing a lot of nitrogen in the late summer and autumn. The fact is that nitrogen helps to build up foliage, thereby extending the growing season. In such conditions, the standard bush raspberry Tarusa will not be ready for wintering and will be too weak, and the diseases of the Tarusa raspberry will very soon make themselves felt. It is better to fertilize raspberries with potassium and phosphorus during this period (thirty and twenty grams per square square).
Raspberry Tarusa: how to plant?
It is not recommended to grow Tarusa tree raspberries in the place where potatoes, tomatoes and other representatives of nightshades used to grow. Also, do not place Tarusa raspberry seedlings in areas where raspberries also grew earlier, as this can cause the appearance of diseases and harmful insects.
Solanaceous and strawberries do not coexist well with raspberries for this reason. A good neighbor for raspberries is an apple tree. With such a neighborhood, there are fewer pests and diseases.
It is better to plant raspberries on the south side of the apple tree so that there is no extra shade.
How to plant the Tarusa raspberry tree in spring:
- The soil for planting should be prepared in advance. If planting is planned for the spring, then the preparation is carried out in the fall, and vice versa.
- The row spacing should be approximately 2m. There should be about a meter between the plants. This is due to the special form of growth of this raspberry variety.
- If you are planting more than one plant, but several, it is better to use planting holes. In case you have a whole raspberry plantation planned, then plant the plants in trenches.
- When digging the soil during site preparation, be sure to remove all weed rhizomes. This will avoid the emergence of weeds in the future.
- The landing pit should measure 40cm x 40cm x 40cm. The trench should be forty centimeters deep and sixty centimeters wide.
- Be sure to apply fertilizer to the planting holes or trenches. Humus is good for this. One bucket is enough for one hole, and two buckets for a trench meter.
- Add wood ash there (half a glass per hole, a glass per meter of trench), fertilizer with potassium (15 grams and 30 grams), phosphorus fertilizing (20 grams and 40 grams).
- Raspberries must be shed well during planting. At the same time, at least five liters are consumed per plant. Plant the raspberries in moist soil, so the plant will take root better.
- Before planting raspberries in the ground, it is recommended to soak the root system for a couple of hours in a growth stimulator. For this, many gardeners use Kornevin or Heteroauxin.
- The root collar should be two to three centimeters deep.
- After the plants are planted, shorten the raspberry shoot to about forty centimeters.
- It is recommended, after all the above procedures, to mulch the soil around the planted plants. This will keep moisture out longer.
You can plant raspberries in spring and autumn. In the spring, raspberries are planted when the bud swelling has not yet begun, and in the fall, 30 days before the onset of frost. In many ways, the time of planting Tarusa depends on the climatic zone in which the raspberries will be grown.
When planting in the fall, remove all foliage from the seedlings.
Caring for Tarusa raspberries is not so difficult. It must be periodically loosened and weeded from weeds (at least six times in one season). Irrigation is regulated according to the degree of aridity.
Feed your plants periodically, and also process them to prevent pests and diseases.
As for the replacement shoots, the Tarusa variety, they need to be left in the amount of 4 - 6 pieces. Also, Tarusa bushes need to be formed, periodically pruning.
