Bulbous flowers: basic rules
Bulbous flowers: The main recommendations for planting are not to waste time with planting purchased bulbs, bought and planted. Of course, you can leave it for storage, but for a short time and in a cool place, do not bring the bulb to softness and growth.
These plants can be safely divided into frost-resistant and not, for example, daffodils or crocuses can be safely attributed to the first option, but crocosmia and gladiolus are not, you need to dig them up for the winter.
Some varieties can survive the cold if you make the right shelter for the winter season. Its composition can be from straw, peat, crushed bark or fallen leaves, about 8 cm thick (good air exchange is very important). This method protects the soil from freezing, and the bulbs do not germinate in the cold season.
To plant bulbous flowers, the soil must be well drained both outdoors and when growing in pots at home. The planting hole is dug out about twice as wide as the bulb itself, the depth is selected individually from the size of the plant being planted.
Do not forget about the gardener's assistants - fertilizer. Slow-acting, for example bone meal, is added to non-fertile soil, but when planting one-season bulbs, fertilizer can be neglected. When grown at home, preference is given to liquid feeding.
Flowers of spring bloom are watered moderately, summer flowers are watered abundantly, especially during drought, since the roots are deep and moisture must reach them. At home, watering is performed as the soil dries.
After the end of the flowering period, you should: do not cut off the faded flowers, leave the peduncles, do not remove the leaves during the period of removing the peduncles.
