OT hybrids: instructions for growing and care
Orienpets are also known under a different name - OT hybrids. Plants are new varieties of lilies, but they were obtained by a difficult breeding method.
The flower has powerful and strong shoots, quite tall. The inflorescences are large (twenty - twenty-five centimeters), the shape resembles a wide cup or funnel, the petals are arranged so that some part looks up, and the other to the sides, the color palette of the inflorescences is diverse, the aroma cannot be called pronounced, one can hear it will not be difficult.
OT hybrids are considered to have a high level of resistance to various diseases and cold weather. Varieties of this plant are grown for sale for bouquets and landscaping.
The flowering process occurs in mid-summer and lasts about fifty days.
The best option when choosing soils will be pre-loosened, fertile, drained lands. If there is heavy soil, it is worth adding a small amount of sand.
Preference should be given to areas with a sufficient amount of sunlight, but after some time, the second half of the flower should be in shade, and the inflorescences should be on the sunny side.
Orienpeta lilies respond well to fertilization. It is recommended that you purchase organic food such as fresh compost, chicken droppings with warm water from a garden and garden store, but do not add fresh manure. It is necessary to apply top dressing in the spring season, but in small doses. If you overdo it, the top of the plant will take on a huge size, just like the flowers, but the bulbs will be the same size. After some time, namely in the winter season, the bulbs will be very weak and easily undergo some kind of disease, and then die. They may survive, but the flowering process in a year will be short and not as beautiful as the first time.
Purchase a small amount of mineral dressings, as they will need to be applied only three times in one growing season. Apply them for the first time in early March, even if snow remains.
In the fall season, the part of the plant that grows above the ground should be pruned almost to the base. When growing a plant in a cold climate, it is worth buying a garden and a vegetable garden in a store with a theme or making your own shelter from precipitation in the form of rains, you can cover the flowers with a thick film. Otherwise, the plant will lose all immunity to cold weather due to an excess of moisture in the soil. This type of lily is one of the most frost-resistant when compared with other varieties. However, we advise you to make a layer of mulch for the winter season, for example, their spruce branches, humus, fallen leaves (dry).
It is worth replanting the plant every five years, remember that the formation of new bulbs is a long process. Usually, a change in the place of growth of lilies is carried out at the beginning of the autumn season.
OT hybrids: breeding methods
Gardeners are used to planting this variety with bulbs, which are planted at the end of the second - beginning of the third spring months or at the end of the first - beginning of the second autumn months. It is better to buy bulbs in early spring or late summer. It is necessary to plant the bulbs fifteen to twenty centimeters deep, the space between the plants should be about thirty centimeters. It is recommended to plant flowers in rows, the height of which is made about twenty centimeters, be sure to make a drainage layer.
Daughter bulbs are divided at the moment of a change in the place of growth of flowers, usually every five years. Remove small bulbs from the mother bulb, one centimeter or more wide. Daughter bulbs are planted in rows (for further germination) ten centimeters deep, the space between the plants should be about fifteen centimeters. Cover the plants for the winter season.
There is also a method of reproduction using scales.
