Since ancient times, novice gardeners have combined the management of the main farm with the cultivation of medicinal plants. Special “pharmaceutical gardens” were created, where medicinal herbs brought from the forest were planted, the effects and effects of a particular culture on the human body were studied.
Do not underestimate what wildlife can offer to humans as a cure for a particular ailment. Consider some examples, as well as information about the cultivation of medicinal plants in the garden.
Medicinal herbs in the garden: how to plant?
Like all cultivated plants, those that have a medicinal effect require special conditions for care and maintenance, because the main goal of the summer resident is both to maintain their healing properties for a long time, and overall survival in the garden.
Medicinal herbs in the garden will be best placed in a well-lit area with the sun - you can plant both shrubs and annual / perennial herb-type plants at the same time, only the location of the crops should be observed so that they do not interfere and do not intersect with each other. Thus, you can completely create a special corner-composition of medicinal plants, so that you always know where you can come and turn to with your ailment.
The shape of the beds and sides for planting medicinal herbs in the garden is not fundamental, but it is better to make it somewhat different from other crops, emphasizing the uniqueness of valuable crops in terms of design.
Naturally, the soil for such plants must be prepared in the same way as everyone else - to thoroughly dig up, loosen, remove weed roots, level and break raised beds for future plantings. Please note that such medicinal plants are especially picky about the composition of the soil, the beneficial properties of which are found mainly in the rhizome. An example would be ordinary valerian.
Medicinal plants: names and photos
Most often, shrubs and herbaceous plants are representatives of medicinal herbs, the choice of which is wide enough and suitable for almost every gardener.
Let's look at some examples of medicinal herbs:
- Rosehip cinnamon - a well-known shrub of medium size, the flowering period of which falls on the spring season. Differs in pink flowers with a fragrant aroma, when ripe, forms bright red or orange fruits. Rosehip is famous for its use in medicine in the treatment of diseases of the blood, liver, stomach. It also acts as a strengthening agent that enriches the body with vitamins for colds.
- Hawthorn prickly - the shrub is already larger than the cinnamon rosehip. It is characterized by white flowers and wavy leaves, fruits are large red, suitable for human consumption. This plant is used both for decorative purposes (making hedges) and is effectively used in the treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular diseases, and hypertension.
- Calendula officinalis - a small annual plant that can always be distinguished by its large flowers of orange, white or cream shades. An alcoholic tincture from harvested calendula inflorescences is widely known, which is used in the treatment of colds, and also plays the role of a good anti-inflammatory agent.
- Yarrow - a medicinal herb of perennial type about 65 cm in height, has feathery leaves and inflorescences of white, yellow, purple flowers. For the treatment of diseases such as hemorrhoids, as well as those related to the stomach, the natural part of the yarrow is used at the initial stage of flowering, from which a special infusion is prepared.
- Medicinal herbs plantains - perennial plants growing low to the ground, which can always be identified by wide, large oval-shaped leaves, and it is they who are used in harvesting for subsequent use in the fight against inflammatory processes, as well as for the treatment and prevention of stomach diseases. Also, plantain, as you and I know, is used on occasion to heal open wounds due to its healing properties.
One way or another, acquiring a pharmaceutical garden, one should closely think about its further use. A specially designated place for medicinal plants must be under timely supervision, and the crops themselves must receive appropriate care according to a verified schedule. Although the method of care itself is practically no different from other crops, it should be remembered that in case of neglect, plants can lose their healing properties, so it is imperative to take care of them.
In conclusion, an important point in the study of theoretical material regarding this type of plant should be emphasized. By planting the wrong variety, which is intended for completely different purposes, you can inadvertently harm yourself or your loved ones. Therefore, be sure to consult with professional sources and specialists whether it is worth growing and using this or that culture, or is it better to decide on an alternative. Be healthy!
