"Feed" strawberries correctly
Where does feeding begin strawberry in the garden? With organic fertilizers. Mullein or bird droppings will help you here. Top dressing should be done when you plan to water the strawberries.
To do this, we breed in a bucket or other container a mullein with water in a ratio of 1/15, and bird droppings with water, in a ratio of 1/30. Plan to dilute the feed solution a couple of weeks in advance to allow the fertilizer to ferment.
In early spring, as soon as the snow melts, you can start the first feeding of strawberries. A pre-prepared and fermented solution of mullein or bird droppings is poured abundantly onto the strawberry beds.
You can also add urea and ash for greater effect. The ratio for 10 liters of water is about a matchbox of urea and half a glass of ash.
After a while, when the strawberries begin to pick up color, schedule the next, second organic fertilizer feed. An aqueous solution of rotted mullein with bird droppings is poured into a 10 liter bucket and a matchbox of urea with microelements is added.
The next portion of the fermented mullein solution, after about 7-10 days. Wait again 10 days, after the third feeding, and for the fourth time we spill the strawberry beds with fermented solution of animal organic fertilizer.
The third portion of fertilizer: 7-10 days after the second feeding, the plants are again watered with fermented organic matter. 4th serving: 7-10 days after 3rd application and add fermented mullein or bird droppings again.
And now, when you have fed your berry plantation, be sure to wait for a sweet and aromatic first harvest. Strawberries after such a multilevel feeding are large, juicy and aromatic.
And after harvesting, take some time, and somewhere in the middle of August, fertilize the strawberry beds with the fifth dressing. Traditionally, we take an aqueous solution of fermented bird droppings or mullein, with the addition of a glass of ash to a 10 liter bucket.
We do not recommend using chlorine-containing mineral fertilizers for feeding garden strawberries. There are more gentle chemicals than chlorine, which have a negative effect on plants. It is better to use sulphates rather than salt-containing fertilizers, they are safer and less aggressive for the plant.
Five-time feeding, more necessary for early strawberry varieties. If you have a medium-ripening variety on your strawberry beds, you can carry out three feeding once, according to the composition of the first three above
If you are still confused by the unpleasant smell in your garden, you can replace bird droppings or mullein with young weeds, of which there will be plenty after the first weeding.
In the preparation of weed fertilizer, the same fermentation method is used. Chop coarse weeds, mix with small ones and cover with water 1 to 6 parts.
And also leave to ferment for 10-14 days. All subsequent stages of feeding are like with a "fragrant" mullein.
Advanced summer residents prefer to grow remontant strawberry varieties. And there is a reason, remontantnaya bears fruit 3-4 times of the harvest per year. The taste of the remontant berry does not lag behind the traditional varieties.
A distinctive feature of remontant strawberries is the abundance of vegetative and generative organs. Therefore, the soil for the remontant needs fertilized. On the site, such varieties will require more space and will constantly require watering of the soil, which must be continuously maintained.
This is where the above multilevel feeding method comes in. You can use fermented mullein, bird droppings, and young weeds. With urea and ash, even better, for 10 liters of fermentation billet half a glass of ash and a matchbox of urea.
It is logical that the first fertilization after winter should be carried out from early spring. As soon as the strawberries begin to form flower stalks, on the 10th, 20th and 30th of the month of feeding, do three fertilizing and fertilize your strawberry beds. And so on, every month, until September, three additional dressings per month, no less.
We described the recipe for the fertilizing solution above, it is followed all summer. In the fall, add urea to the fertilizer solution only in the first feeding in September, around September 10. The next two are already without her. And rest assured, your garden queen will give you juicy, tasty and aromatic berries.
It happens that gardeners are not ready to part with strawberries for the winter, and manage to grow this garden berry at home, on the windowsill. Imagine, in plastic bags. This type of “home” strawberry needs additional feeding more than ever.
Top dressing method, drip, and in the literal sense of the word. A simple irrigation system is constructed to feed the plants. Take a medical dropper and insert it into the bag of soil and plant in three places.
Maintain a gap of 60-70 cm between the irrigation points. Connect one end of the dropper to the nozzle of the distribution flow. Naturally, you leave all mechanical devices freely available.
To calculate the consumption of fertilizer for one package of strawberries about 2 liters per day. Fertilizer consists of potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen, 20 grams each and 10 liters of lukewarm water. This non-tricky structure will be the guarantor of fresh berries on your winter table.
