Briefly about strawberries
Strawberry is a perennial herbaceous crop, from the strawberry genus, the rose family. Vima Rina is a remontant variety of garden strawberries. Such varieties have been very popular lately. And this is not surprising, because their main plus is that you can get a harvest almost all season. But even these varieties have their own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. All of them must be taken into account before starting to grow. This variety comes from a Dutch series called Vima. There are four of the most famous species in this series:
- Zanta;
- Rina;
- Xima;
- Tarde.

Rina is the most popular and the only one to be a remontant and neutral day strawberry.
What is Wim Rin's remontant strawberry culture?
This concept of remontability defines itself as the ability to bloom and bear fruit throughout the season. These varieties also have their own varieties:
- Have a short day;
- Neutral day;
- Long day.
Short day strawberry
This is the most familiar variety. She is considered a typical and traditional representative of the culture. Ripening of the crop occurs only once during the growing season. Kidney formation is carried out only on short days of light, less than twelve hours. This happens mainly from the end of the summer period to the beginning of the autumn period.
Long day strawberry
In such varieties, the laying of flower buds occurs during daylight hours, sixteen to seventeen hours long. In one season, it will be able to please you with two or three harvests.
Strawberry neutral day
In such strawberries, the setting of flower buds does not depend on the length of daylight hours. The only thing that can affect them is the temperature and the percentage of humidity in the air. That is why such strawberries can be grown in warm greenhouses all year round. Their buds are laid cyclically, this process takes about fifty to sixty days. When grown outdoors, these strawberries will bear fruit two to four times. Abroad, the concepts of remontant strawberries and strawberries of a neutral day are not shared, this is due to the sparing climatic conditions. In Russia, it is customary to separate them, since among the remontant strawberries you can also find long-day berries, such as:
- Garland;
- Tuscany F1;
- Moscow delicacy;
- F1 temptation and so on.
Strawberry Vima Rina: variety description
Wim Rin's garden strawberries were bred by Dutch breeders. It happened quite by accident. Thanks to which varieties this strawberry was bred, it is not known for certain, but some factors indicate that among the parent specimens there was a selva variety.
Bush and foliage
Bushes are quite strong, moderately spreading and gaining growth quickly. The foliage grows very abundantly, it is she who saves the harvest during the summer heat. There are many leaves, but they are small in size, with a pale greenish tint. The upper part of the leaf protrudes outward, it is embossed and glossy, the edges are jagged. Inflorescences grow at the same level as foliage, small in size, typical white color. It does not form very many mustache, so reproduction in the usual way is a little difficult.
Wim Rin's strawberries: how to propagate?
You can propagate by seeds, or by dividing the bush, about once every two to three years.
Persistence
This variety is quite resistant to winter frosts, but although it tolerates drought, it is still not advisable to allow it.
Watering
Watering should be timely and abundant.
What kind of harvest Wim Rin can be harvested
The yield is quite high, from one bush you can collect from eight hundred to one thousand two hundred grams of delicious berries.
About growing Wim Rin
If you give the strawberry bushes the right care and comfortable living conditions, then they will be more tolerant of all possible diseases.
In the greenhouse
If you have a warm greenhouse and comfortable conditions in it, then you can feast on this berry until the new year. After that, you will need to give the bushes a rest for sixty to ninety days. After they have passed, it is necessary to provide proper care and then, the berries will appear in the middle of spring.
In the greenhouse
If you cultivate this variety under a film cover, like a greenhouse, then you can harvest the crop at the end of the spring period, and it will bear fruit until the very end of the autumn period.
When grown in open areas
When cultivated in open areas, the number of fruits is slightly reduced. And the number of crop waves is reduced to two or three times. It will be possible to start collecting from the beginning of the summer period, until the first frost.
Characteristic features of Wim Rin fruit
The Vima Rina strawberry variety is the leader among others, thanks to its taste. Let's look at everything in order.
- Wim Rin Fruit Shape: The berries are slightly elongated, in appearance they resemble a cone. The tone is intensely reddish. Seeds of rather small parameters, when eaten, are not felt in any way.
- Berry pulp: bright scarlet. Strong enough and even a little crispy.
- Size and weight of Wim Rin berries: The berries are large enough, on average reaching a weight of thirty-five to forty-five grams. But there are those that grow up to seventy grams. With the arrival of the autumn period, they lose a little in their weight and size.
- Taste qualities: The taste is rather unusual. It is strawberry, but the notes of cherry are also distinctly felt.
- Aromatics: The smell is very diffuse, strawberry.
- Suitability: Berries can be eaten fresh, you can boil their jam, make compote. Also good for drying and freezing.
- Transportation: They are not stored very long, but also not a little. Withstand transportation over short distances.
Characteristics when growing Wim Rin
You can plant such a variety almost at any time. But still, the best option would be: landing at the beginning of the autumn period, or at the very beginning of spring. The kidneys are laid at a temperature from plus five to plus thirty.
An interesting fact of this variety is that if you plant a bush in the spring, then there is a high probability that it will begin to bear fruit already in the middle of the summer period. But of course, comfortable conditions will play an important role here.
Saplings quickly adapt and take root. Seedlings should be chosen such that they have an intact, developed and healthy root system, as well as six already formed leaves. It can grow on one piece of land for about twenty-four to thirty-six months. There will be no loss of the amount of the harvest from this, it may even increase. But in order for the harvest to be plentiful and constant, you need to make suitable top dressing in a timely manner. Also, the bushes need to be updated. It can be grown from a mustache, seeds, and also just divide the rhizome.
Quite often, gardeners refer to this variety as an annual. Those bushes that have already borne fruit are removed. And in their place, young seedlings are left, which they received from the sockets.
It is very important to stratify the soil with organic fertilizing before planting.
But if you feed strawberries only with fertilizers with nitrogenous elements, you will significantly increase your plant mass, but there will be less harvest and barnacles.Such dressings are recommended to be used only if you have a task in breeding bushes, and not getting sweet berries.
And if you use fertilizers containing potassium and phosphorus elements, this will have a beneficial effect on the quality of the crop.
All bushes need to be fed three times:
- The first top dressing is at the time of the beginning of flowering;
- The second feeding - at the moment when the berries begin to ripen;
- The third feeding is after the berries are ripe.
Delicious berries begin to ripen within fourteen to sixteen days after their formation.
Conclusion
If you like remontant varieties and want to feast on berry fruits for a long time, then you should take a closer look at this variety. In addition, it can be cultivated even on the balcony, or in an impromptu indoor garden.
