What to do with strawberries in spring
Content:
We put order on the site after winter
So, strawberries in the spring: all care begins with cleaning the site, removing the old leaves and branches, the remaining grass and old strawberry leaves. If it's already warm, then you can remove the shelters from the bushes. Loosen the rows between the bushes. Experienced gardeners say that before loosening, you need to remove the top layer of the earth, because of the harm that hibernated at the roots in winter, they no longer crawl.
For a good harvest of strawberries, before loosening the ground, it is recommended to scatter ash all over the plot.
Strawberries in spring: remove the cover sheet from strawberries
With the arrival of spring, you need to remove the shelter from the strawberries, if, of course, you covered it with something. Some shelter so that it does not freeze in winter, we do not have a warm climate everywhere. The strawberries are opened at the time when they begin to turn green. But again, our weather is deceiving, today it is warm, and tomorrow it was freezing. Therefore, it is better to make a cover from the film and cover it on top.
Correct thinning, pruning and transplanting of strawberries
To rejuvenate the bush, we prune the bushes. When the berry season is coming to an end, you can see from the bushes what kind of nondescript they are, and so, in order to give the bushes a new life, you need to cut off all the dry leaves, thereby freeing up space for the emergence of new growth. This will prepare the strawberry bushes for the winter season.
There are no deadlines for circumcision, since with our weather it is not known what to expect. It is better, of course, in this regard to be guided, so to speak, by folk signs. This, for example, if there is nothing to collect on your bushes, it means that you can do circumcision.
Thus, by winter, new leaves will grow and in the spring the strawberries will already be with leaves, this is if you carry out circumcision in the spring. The leaves are removed from the bushes in two ways: this is when the entire upper part is cut off and when only the bad leaves are cut off. Which method of circumcision to choose, of course, everyone decides for himself.
Strawberries in Spring: Why Trim Strawberry Mustaches
The strawberry mustache is also trimmed, but this is not done every time. The mustache is removed if your bush is perspective and a mustache is left from it for seedlings.
Most importantly, trim the entire plant with a sharp tool and do not forget to water the strawberries in time.
The procedure for thinning strawberries is done as needed. If you have strawberry thickets, then you need to thin it out, because in such thickets you will not grow anything good.
Transplanting strawberries is comparable to clearing strawberry beds. It is of course good that you remove extra bushes from the site, they will have more light, and on the other hand, the bushes that we removed could serve as seedlings in a new place.
Mulching strawberry beds
This procedure is advisable for strawberry care. It is very useful for strawberry bushes, it will protect bushes from diseases and various pests, and after this procedure the moisture will last longer. When mulching, all weeds disappear. They are usually mulched with peat, dry grass, compost, needles, straw, humus or foil.
All of these species will serve as bedding for strawberries. Advice - do not use last year's layer of mulch, as many pests already live there, and if you put the old layer again, then all the pests will run to your bush.
Strawberries in spring: proper watering
Watering the strawberries is considered the most important procedure for good fruit production. Watering strawberries varies. If you are preparing the plantation only after winter and there are already green leaves on the bushes, then spray water, as if with rain.
This will allow your bushes to develop faster. In other periods, it is better to water the strawberries under the bush itself, but also look at the ground. If your soil is still damp, then you do not need to water, rot may quickly appear.
Watering strawberries in hot weather
In hot weather, strawberries are recommended to be watered once every one and a half weeks. In extreme heat, water once a week or even more often. Use only warm water for irrigation.
