Clematis Taiga
Content:
Clematis Taiga is a young representative of this species, obtained through the experience and research of Japanese breeders. In terms of care, planting and breeding, the variety is not whimsical and even an inexperienced gardener can handle these functions. The basis for excellent growth and flowering will be the right planting site on your site and support for climbing shoots.
Clematis Taiga: variety description
"Taiga" is a plant of more than one year of life, belongs to the Buttercup family. Although this variety has been on the market for less than ten years, it has gained immense popularity in our country. Clematis Taiga was obtained by Japanese breeders and took an honorable second place at the Planetarium exhibition
Typical differences of "Taiga" are high growth rates and active flowering. An adult bush reaches 2-2.5 m in height and 70-100 cm in width. At the time of flowering, the shoots are covered with bright yellow-purple flowers. The structure of the petals of the flower is terry, in addition, the shape from the bud to the end of flowering changes from simple to complex.
Having looked at the photos on the Internet, you will notice that the inflorescences of clematis Taiga are quite large in size, up to fifteen centimeters. Flowering peaks in mid-June and lasts until September.
You and your guests will not be able to pass by this beautiful plant without paying attention to it, since the flowers are distinguished by a rich color in two colors. The lower petals are colored uniformly purple, while the rest are half lemon, and the other half is also purple. Some gardeners notice that in the inflorescence, the petals periodically curl inward.
The leaf plates are marsh green. There are three types: trifoliate, cordate, or separate. Each leaf has a kind of tail, thanks to which the plant clings to the established support.
How frost-resistant is the large-flowered clematis of the Taiga variety
Despite its beautiful name Taiga, this variety of clematis does not always tolerate frosts well, you can call it average. The plant feels great in the subtropics and temperate climatic zone.
In simple terms, the frosts that the plant can tolerate should not exceed -23 degrees, while clematis does not need additional protection in the form of shelter up to -15.
Conditions for growing clematis
Clematis Taiga does not like constant shade, so when choosing a place for permanent planting, focus on the sunny side or partial shade. The variety also reacts negatively to high temperatures and dry air. The acidity of the soil of the chosen place should be neutral or slightly acidic, with good air exchange and, of course, fertile. A constant excess of water or its stagnation due to the quality of the soil can destroy your clematis.
Clematis Taiga: planting and care
If you perform all the simple manipulations of agricultural technology, "Taiga" will respond with high-quality and fast growth and will delight you with its flowering. The first thing to start with is to make the strong support that the vines of the plant need. You can make it yourself from improvised means or purchase it ready-made in the store.
Remember that the shoots of large-flowered clematis Taiga are attached to the support in accordance with their growth, that is, every 2-4 days. Thanks to this, gusts of wind will not be able to disrupt or damage them.
In the first years after planting, the root system is actively developing, as a result of which the plant produces only a few shoots (1-3). To ensure that after six years your clematis is covered with a carpet of hundreds of exotic flowers at the time of flowering, remove the resulting flowers in the first years. Then the vitality of the plant will be spent on its growth and strengthening.
Landing site preparation
When determining a place for permanent planting, do not forget that "Taiga" is a perennial plant and for its normal development it will need enough space with high-quality soil.
Having chosen a place, they dig a hole, and the remaining soil is mixed with the following components: sand + humus + lime + peat + ash + fertilizers + superphosphate (15 liters + 30 liters + 150 grams + 15 liters + 100 grams + 150 grams + 100 grams).
Seedling preparation
When planting a young plant in the autumn, a prerequisite for transferring to a permanent place is the presence of vegetative buds. In the autumn, the seedling must contain at least one shoot. In both cases, the root system must be branched into at least three roots, 10 cm each.
When buying a seedling, choose those with a closed root system, so it will be easier for the plant to transfer the transplant.
The storage temperature of the seedling varies from zero to +2 degrees. On the day of planting, without removing it from the container, clematis is soaked in water at room temperature for up to 30 minutes.
Landing
We already wrote above that before planting, they prepare a hole with a diameter of 0.6 meters. The transfer of a seedling in time can vary depending on the climatic zone, but on average it falls between the beginning of May and the end of April. In some cases, the transfer of the seedling is carried out in the fall.
Remember that in order for your clematis Taiga to not bump into an unwanted obstacle in the process of growth, it is worth leaving about 30 centimeters from neighboring plants, walls of the house, fence and other things. Between the same clematis "Taiga" lay a distance of one and a half, two meters, otherwise the plants will begin to take nutrients from each other.
Landing scheme:
- Dig a hole.
- Fill the bottom with rubble and stones up to 10 centimeters high.
- Put rotted manure and the above-described mixture of soil and fertilizers on the drainage.
- Transfer the seedling to the hole.
- Cover with soil 10 cm deeper than the container.
- Drizzle.
After all the above actions, clematis Taiga is shaded. Annual plants are perfect for this, flowers of several seasons of life are not planted nearby, since they take away the food of "Taiga"
Watering and nutrition
In hot summer conditions, Clematis Taiga needs frequent watering with the obligatory moisturizing of the foliage by spraying. The frequency of watering should not be less than once every three to four days. The most favorable time for moistening the soil and plants is the hours after sunset. In case of water shortage, Clematis flowers will be small and the flowering period will be shorter.
An important point! A young plant (under three years old) is watered more abundantly, at the rate of 30-40 liters per bush.
In the first year after planting, Clematis Taiga grows independently, without additional feeding. From the second year, fertilizers are fed from May to August, once or twice a month. Both types of fertilizers are used: organic and mineral.
Do not under any circumstances treat the plant with fresh manure.
Mulching, loosening
After completing the planting of the seedling, the soil is covered with a layer of mulch, the composition may be as follows: fallen needles, pine bark or chips, deciduous bark is also suitable. The main task of such a shelter is to protect the soil from overheating, since clematis does not tolerate this.
With the onset of cold weather, it is necessary to increase the protective layer using the same components by about ten centimeters.
It is important to constantly loosen the soil, since ignoring this treatment after watering, a crust will appear on the ground with the drying process, and air exchange will be disrupted.
Clematis taiga: pruning
Clematis Taiga belongs to the 3rd group of pruning, which means that when frost occurs, non-living shoots are removed, while living ones are cut off almost to the base. Above ground level, about 0.5 meters of the plant remains. This procedure will lead to rich flowering and vigorous growth.
Important note: in the first year after transferring to a permanent place for the winter period, 30 centimeters of clematis are left, for the next season 40, and all the following 0.5 meters.
How to prepare large-flowered clematis Taiga for cold weather
Clematis Taiga has good frost resistance. It is necessary to cover the plant only at temperatures below 15 degrees. You can increase frost resistance by covering the clematis with a cap. With this option, shelter will be needed from minus 25 degrees.
Protect the plant with a mixture of fallen and dry leaves, mixing them with crushed foam, and cover with a wooden box. It, in turn, is covered with polyethylene, and then sprinkled with earth.
It is also important to remove the shelter with the beginning of spring and the established warm weather, since damping is detrimental to clematis. The main thing is not to remove it ahead of time, as otherwise you can freeze the plant.
Clematis Taiga: reproduction
If you are one of those gardeners who like to go through the entire development process from start to finish, then there are only three ways of reproduction. Which one is most convenient for you to decide, each of them has both positive and negative sides.
Cuttings
Propagation by cuttings has one main advantage. In this way, many young plants can be quickly obtained. For cuttings, only adult and mature plants are used, not less than 3 years old.
Cutting technology:
- Before the flowering period, 6 cm cuttings are cut at an acute angle of 45 degrees. For cutting, take the middle of the shoot.
- The place of the cut on the shoot is treated with a special compound for faster root formation.
- The stalk is placed in peat mixed with sand, and left in this position until the first knot appears.
- During the growth and development of the cutting, it is placed in a shady place and periodically moistened.
- Transfer to a permanent place is carried out in the spring.
Layers
This method is the most convenient and effective for this variety. The best time for this breeding method is autumn. The procedure is as follows:
- A shallow trench about ten centimeters is dug around the perimeter of the bush.
- Shoots that have passed the flowering period are lowered into the resulting channels, and fixed with wire.
- Cover with earth, leaving 2.5-3 cm above the soil above the level of the top edge of the trench.
- Further, while the regrowth process is in progress, constant replenishment with vitamins and hydration is performed.
- The separation in spring ends with a logical action: the separation of the mother bush and the young seedling.
Division
In this way, it is possible to propagate clematis of the Taiga variety only after the plant reaches five years of age. To carry out this procedure, "Taiga" is undermined from either side and a part is cut off with a sharp knife. It is important that at the end of the separation, the balance of the plant between the roots and the green mass with shoots is maintained.
Diseases and pests
The main threat to clematis Taiga is fungal diseases, and the most important of them are fusarium and wilting.
Fungi are provocateurs of wilting:
- phomopsis, active in the last months of spring and early summer. It affects both stems and foliage.
- fusarium, affects foliage, starting from the edge and slowly moving towards the base.It is dangerous because, in addition to the specifically affected leaves, all the growing ones wither.
The cause of the defeat of these fungal diseases is excessive humidity in the air and soil.
The main means of prevention of the above described diseases is the treatment with Fundazol. Dissolve 20 g of the drug in 10 liters of water.
The root system of clematis of the Taiga variety is subject to mechanical damage caused by moles, worms, nematodes and larvae of bear cubs. The branches of the plant are often attacked by the well-known winged pest of aphids, snails and a spider mite, which is not picky in the choice of food.
Prevention of clematis is carried out using fertilizers, the main component of which is ammonia, adding them to the soil. Also, as a preventive measure, protective plants are planted in the neighborhood, for example, calendula or greens such as parsley and dill.
Conclusion
Clematis Taiga transforms any plot into a fabulous place. Curving over fences, hedges, gazebos, or any other site you choose, it transforms the landscape of your home. In the process of its growth and development, it is attached by shoots to any supports that come its way, and before your eyes, nature creates a real flower carpet. Landscape designers are very fond of using Clematis Taiga for decorating loggias and terraces.
Clematis Taiga: reviews of gardeners
Svetlana Shkurina, 47 years old, Tuloma
I can be called a fan of clematis, the entire site is planted with these beauties. The first acquaintance with flowers took place 15 years ago, accidentally took a seedling from the market and was not disappointed. During my not a small experience of a florist, I tried many different varieties, in 2017 I came across a Taiga sapling, since then it is a leader in my hit parade of plantings.
Dmitry Kupriyanov, 42 years old, Adler.
I am an experienced summer resident and clematis Taiga decorates the flower beds of my site. Like all plants, it requires some attention, but believe me, the result is worth it. For the sake of such beauty, I made a frame for clematis, and now it curls freely and pleases me with its beauty.
Ekaterina Egorova, 53 years old, Veselovka village.
I give this clematis 100 out of 100. This is the best variety, and believe me, I have a wealth of experience in growing this species. Magnificent bloom. In my garden, it is spread over the summer arbor and from the balcony of the second floor. I advise everyone.
