Variety of clematis Solidarity is a perennial vine with woody main stems and flexible, strong shoots. During the growing season, the height of the flower reaches 1.5 m. The variety belongs to semi-shrub plants, it needs support to support the vines. While clematis is growing, it is attached to the support with leaf petioles. The plant is slow-growing, forms a large number of young shoots with leaves of a pale green color. In adulthood, namely, at the age of five, clematis begins to bloom fully.
The variety produces large flowers from May days to the last September days. The duration of flowering depends on the climatic conditions of the growing area. In the southern regions, clematis bloom for a long time, in middle latitudes - shorter. The flowering of plants is continuous, the first flowers emerge on two-year-old shoots, then they begin to form on young stems. The bush blooms profusely, fully covered with burgundy flowers. The appearance can be compared to a carpet covering a solid bush.
This variety is the most popular among all clematis. For the temperate zone, the plant is suitable, because it is frost-resistant, and in the southern regions it can be grown, since clematis is drought-resistant. The variety is cultivated almost throughout the entire Russian territory.
Character traits.
The bush is compact, dense foliage, leaf plates are light green in color, smooth, veined and reticulate. Leaflet is lanceolate, opposite, medium-sized, ternary.
The root system is mixed, grows widely, goes to a depth of 2 meters.
Clematis of this variety is dioecious, the flowers are large, 18 cm in diameter, have 6 sepals, elongated, in the shape of an oval, narrowing towards the upper part is observed. The upper part of the flower is velvety, painted in a deep burgundy shade, in the center there are light elongated ribs and barely noticeable specks of white. The petals have smooth edges.
Anthers of dark purple coloration are located on elongated, thin threads of a light yellow tone, which are located in the form of a semicircle.
Clematis Solidarity is used to decorate areas in group plantings with varieties of different (white, pink, blue, blue) flower coloration. The plant is used to create arches, hedges, walls that define garden areas, and also green gazebos with clematis, planting in a vertical plane.
Clematis Solidarity: pruning

The Solidarity variety has a second pruning group (weak / sparing). The varieties of this group reach heights of up to 1.7 m. Perennial shoots generally bloom, this is a characteristic feature of clematis. For this reason, the plants are not pruned, but removed from the support and covered for the winter season. If you trim the stems of Solidarity clematis, the shoots of the current period will not bloom. Or, if you're lucky, single buds will appear at the bottom of the bush.
The second category includes most of the hybrid varieties of clematis. When cultivating Solidarity clematis, you need to have some knowledge of caring for it.
The lashes should be kept intact when removed from the support, because the stem is fragile enough.
If clematis is poorly covered for the winter season, then the buds may not be preserved, and excessive moisture can cause stem rot at the roots.
The bush inside is a comfortable place for small rodents to live in the winter season, in the spring season only 1/3 of the bush will remain, the rest of the branches will damage the mice.
The inconvenience in agricultural technology is fully compensated by the appearance of a large number of buds. An unusual beautiful bush will definitely stand out among the rest of the plants with its decorative effect and continuous active flowering.
Cultivation conditions of the variety
The solidarity clematis variety gains its growth until the time when it is fully matured. In the future, only lateral shoots grow, so the bush seems large. The length of the perennial vines remains unchanged. The hybrid belongs to the covering plants.
The trellis is installed so as to carefully remove the stems, without unnecessary losses. To decorate the walls of buildings, our plant will not work. If the building is located at a close distance, then in the summer season, due to this, the temperature may rise, thus it will be difficult to remove the clematis from the support. The plant needs a place that will be well ventilated, but without strong cold gusts of wind.
Clematis Solidarity: planting and care

Cultivars in the second pruning category grow slowly compared to other categories. Good illumination is required for growth and build-up of mass. The root circle must be freed from any vegetation. The soil should be slightly acidic or neutral, saturated with nutrients and loosened. The soil is suitable for clematis sandy loam or loamy, you need to add humus in large quantities. The soil should not be dry or waterlogged.
- How to choose and prepare a landing site.
The planting site is chosen so that the location of the root system is in the shade, and the stems and young shoots in the open air. To photosynthesize substances, a large amount of ultraviolet radiation is needed. It is also important to find good soil for the plants and dig a planting hole that is suitable in size. - The pit is prepared 10 days before planting the plants. The dimensions of the planting pit: depth - 0.75 m, diameter depends on the root system, the interval to the edge is 0.2 m. A drainage layer is laid at the bottom of the depression. Ingredients for the soil mixture: 3 kg of sand, 3 kg of peat, 5 kg of compost fertilizer, 200 grams of ash, 100 grams of superphosphate, 200 grams of nitrophosphate. The mixture is divided into 2 parts, one part is poured into the hole, the second is applied immediately upon planting.
- How to prepare a seedling.
The seedlings that you prepared yourself are stored in a dark place in the winter season at a temperature of + 1-3 degrees, after the buds appear, the planting material is taken to a lighted place. Before planting, the plant is removed from the soil where the petioles germinated, the root system is placed in a solution against fungal infections, then in a preparation to stimulate growth.
When you divide the bush, follow the rules. Share a flower that is over 5 years old. The plant is planted before the juice starts to move. Each seedling should have a healthy root system and 5 living buds.
The seedling from the nursery is checked, namely, the root system is examined, and healthy shoots must be present on the plant.Disinfect and stimulate plant growth if not done before selling. - Planting rules.
If you plant clematis in groups, there should be an interval of 0.7 m between the pits.
Algorithm.
A seedling is set in the center, the root system is distributed along the bottom of the pit.
The rest of the soil mixture is poured.
The root collar deepens by 7-9 cm.
The root circle is compacted and watered with organic matter.
When transplanting an adult flower, the planting hole is dug 10 cm lower than the previous one, then the plant is covered with earth 15 cm higher than the root collar. - Watering and fertilizing.
When watering the plants, avoid excessive moisture in the soil and the drying of the surface soil layer. An adult clematis needs a large amount of water a couple of times every 30 days. Young seedlings are watered on a regular basis, you need to focus on precipitation. Make sure that the root circle is moistened, the soil is loose, it is forbidden for weeds to be present.
A variety of the second pruning category must be constantly fed. Fertilizers are applied in the first days of May (urea), during the bud formation period (Agricola-7), after the plant has bloomed (organic matter), in the autumn season (superphosphate, potassium-containing mixtures).
When the flowers are formed, the clematis are treated with the Bud growth stimulant. - How to mulch and loosen the soil.
The soil is always loosened, it does not depend on the age of the plant. Prevent the topsoil from compaction and the development of weeds. Mulching is used to retain moisture and prevent overheating of the fibrous root system.
It is advisable to spud the flowers, cover them with grass that has been mowed or foliage from last year. You can plant low-height flowers around the circumference of the root circle. Cohabitation will protect clematis from overheating, and flowers will grow periodically in shade. - Variety pruning procedure.
Clematis are pruned in the autumn season after the foliage has fallen off. If necessary, perennial stems are shortened by 15-20 cm. Weak young shoots are removed. Part of the crown, which has dried up during the summer season, is cut off.
Pruning clematis Solidarity is carried out after the vine has been removed from the support. - How to prepare clematis for the winter season.
Covering variety. Clematis must take refuge in the autumn season, no matter what the weather is on the territory. Prepare for the winter season as follows: seedlings are watered in large quantities under the root system; the stems are removed from the support, pruning is carried out; the stems are twisted in a ring; a deciduous layer is poured onto the ground, stalks are placed on it; the layer of mulch increases; arcs are set over the plant, the film material is stretched.
On top of it, everything is covered with spruce branches or dry foliage. Snow falls in the winter season.
Clematis "Solidarity" reproduction
The variety is bred only vegetatively, the seed method does not guarantee the production of juveniles with the characteristics of the mother. Reproduction occurs by layering from the lower branch of an adult clematis. The procedure is carried out in the spring season before the plant blooms. You will receive planting material only after 2 years. The best way is grafting. The petioles are harvested at the time of cutting; the tops of perennial shoots are suitable for this. They are placed in a container filled with soil. Early in the spring, the illumination and temperature conditions increase. By the time of planting in a permanent place, the petiole takes root, buds appear on it.
Diseases and pests
A hybrid variety with large flowers is less resistant to disease than varieties with small flowers. Our variety under low temperature conditions and increased soil moisture can be affected by powdery mildew. The bush is treated with colloidal sulfur or Topaz. A fungal disease can often be observed in young flowers, which causes wilting of the stems. The bush is processed with copper-containing agents. Harmful insects: slugs. They are fought with metaldehydes.
Outcomes
Clematis Solidarity is a hybrid variety bred in Poland and belongs to the second pruning category. The bush continuously forms large flowers of deep burgundy color for a long time. The semi-shrub plant reaches a height of 1.5 m, has a rich, beautiful habit, and is used for decorating landscapes.
Clematis Solidarity: variety reviews
Marina Semyonovna, 46 years old, Voronezh region: “For a long time I wanted to buy clematis, but stopped that clematis Solidarity belongs to the 2nd group of pruning, because this category is quite demanding. I read the reviews, got acquainted with the photographs of "Solidarity", this version was advised to me, my colleague gave me the layering. After 3 years, a few flowers appeared on the bush below. At the moment, clematis has been growing with me for 6 years, the support is made in the form of a wall near the gazebo. Flowering occurs actively and in large quantities from the last days of May until the first frost, the bush looks like one continuous burgundy rug, amazing! "
Irina Gennadievna, 31 years old, Republic of Adygea: “Several varieties of clematis grow on my territory. The variety of clematis Solidarity stands out for its bright coloration and a large number of large velvety flowers. Clematis is planted along the perimeter of the rock garden in the form of a wall. Flowering occurs from the first days of May until the second autumn month. For the winter season, I trim the stems, remove the vine from the trellis, put the arches and stretch the polyethylene. For our climatic conditions, we can stop here. Clematis of the Solidarity variety has been growing for 5 years already, during this time period I did not get sick, every spring I process the plant with copper sulfate. "
