Clematis Queen Jadwiga: variety description
This clematis variety is a hybrid variety that appeared relatively recently thanks to the work of breeders from Poland. Clematis Queen Jadwiga is a perennial vine that has lignified shoots that have a fairly thin and flexible structure. In one summer season, shoots can grow up to two and a half meters. For the best growth of the plant, additional support is required, for which clematis will be able to cling with leaf stalks.
Clematis of the Queen Jadviga variety is large-flowered, this culture blooms for a long time, starting from the last days of May until the beginning of low temperatures. It gives a lot of flowers, the liana is almost completely covered with beautiful inflorescences. The first flowering occurs in the spring on the stems of the previous season. The plant blooms for the second time, starting in August, already on the stems of the current season.
This variety has good frost resistance, Clematis Queen Yadviga can be found even in Siberian, Far Eastern areas. This variety also gives good results in Central Russia. Queen Jadwiga loves a lot of light, copes well with dry weather, even with a shortage of water, such clematis can maintain its decorative appearance. It is in great demand among designers in the southern part of our country.

The inflorescences themselves have a white color and a velvety texture. They have a bisexual structure, usually about seventeen centimeters in diameter. Each flower includes seven to eight sepals, which are elongated oval in shape. They are slightly wavy at the edges, the middle part has a ribbed texture. If the plants do not have enough sunlight, then a couple of green stripes appear at the edges.
As for the stamens, they are arranged in a semicircle shape. Anthers have a bright purple color, they are located on elongated snow-white legs.
The leaf plate has the shape of an oval, the leaves are located opposite each other, painted in a dark green color. The root system of this clematis is rod-shaped. The area of the trunk circle, as a rule, is equal to fifty centimeters. Fruit fruits are rounded.
The large-flowered clematis Queen Jadwiga looks very good as a vertical gardener. With the help of clematis of the Queen Jadwiga variety, you can decorate gazebos, walls of buildings. This clematis looks good between other flowering crops. Clematis often decorate the arches that separate the walls in gardens.
How to properly plant and care for clematis Queen Jadwiga

In order for the Clematis variety Queen Yadwiga to feel good, it is best when choosing a site for planting to give preference to sufficiently moist, well-fertilized, with neutral acidity, areas. Loams and clayey soil, which will have good drainage, can work well.Clematis blooms well only if the regime of bright lighting is observed. For this reason, clematis is planted in a plot with a southern exposure, with good protection from gusty winds.
Do not plant this crop near the wall of the building, the distance should be at least fifty centimeters.
No water should drip from the roofs of buildings onto your plants, as clematis will not benefit from such direct contact with water. In addition, during the heat period, the wall of the building will be too hot, and this will also harm the plant, especially when it blooms. For this hybrid variety, it is imperative to install a support structure. Its form can be very diverse.
The large-flowered clematis is planted by Queen Jadwiga in early spring. If there is a need for that, then the transplant is carried out in mid-July or in the fall. However, this should only be done in extreme cases. When the young stems have already formed, rooting does not go well.
When choosing a site for planting clematis, Queen Jadwiga, it is worth considering that the root system, that is, the holes for planting should be located in the shade. But the above-ground part will require much more sunlight. If there is no other option, and you are planting your Clematis of the Queen Jadwiga variety on a lowered plot, then before planting it is necessary to fill a hill, and only plant a plant on it. Planting pits are prepared in advance, about seven days before planting. As for the size, the pit should be sixty-five centimeters in width and length. And in depth to be about seventy centimeters.
After the site is selected, and the pits are made, it is necessary to fill them with nutrients. There must be a drainage layer at the bottom of the hole; gravel is good for this. Next, a nutrient mixture is prepared: compost (five kilograms) + superphosphate (fifty grams) + ash (one hundred fifty grams) + sand (three kilograms) + nitrophoska (two hundred grams). This nutrient mixture is poured onto the drain.
If the soil is too acidic, then it must be neutralized with any alkaline agent intended for gardening purposes.
If you see that the plant is too overgrown and requires separation, then it is best to do this at the beginning of spring, before young growth is formed. Separation of plants can only be carried out after clematis reaches four years. At the same time, each of the clematis should have at least four strong buds, as well as a strong root system. These requirements are guided by choosing seedlings in stores or nurseries. Before planting the plants in the ground, soak the rhizomes for about five hours in a growth promoter. You can, for example, use the drug Heteroauxin. Before using, you must carefully study the attached instructions.
When transplanting this culture to another place, the plants must be buried about ten centimeters deeper than they were located before transplanting. It is not worth deepening the clematis too much, since the plant may develop too slowly because of this, or even wither away altogether.
Young plants should be placed in such a way that the root collar is buried a maximum of eight centimeters. As for the aged plants, they are buried at least fifteen centimeters. After clematis has been planted, it must be well watered. It will not be superfluous if the water contains a certain amount of growth stimulant.
The root system of an adult plant is underground at a depth of up to seventy centimeters. This condition must be taken into account when watering clematis. This procedure is performed approximately eight times during the growing season. One adult plant accounts for about sixty liters of water. In this case, of course, it is necessary to take into account the weather conditions and precipitation. The area of the trunk circle must always be kept moist. The soil should be periodically loosened, and weeds should be absent.
Young seedlings should also not experience a moisture deficit; they need to be watered a little twice as often as adult plants. Since Queen Jadwiga's large-flowered clematis produces fairly large flowers, the amount of moisture must be increased during bud formation.
Too much water should not get on the surface of the root collar, as a large amount of excess moisture can provoke the appearance of root rot.
Top dressing is carried out four times a season:
- After young shoots have appeared, it is necessary to add a urea-based solution. Usually this time falls in May.
- Before the plant starts to bloom, you can use Agricola - 7.
- After the plant has completely bloomed, organic fertilizing is applied.
- In the autumn, fertilizers are applied, which contain superphosphate and potassium sulfate.
Foliar fertilization is done before buds begin to form. A ready-made product is well suited for this. Bud.
Loosening is a very important step in the care of Queen Jadwiga clematis. This should be done as soon as you see that the topsoil is dry. The mulching layer is required for both young plants and aged clematis. This is done to reduce the risk of overheating the root system and also helps to avoid too high moisture content.
In the spring, hilling of shrubs is carried out, after this procedure, the area of the near-trunk circle must be mulched. For this purpose, mown grass, sawdust, humus are well suited. It will not be superfluous if other flowering plants, not too tall in size, grow in the neighborhood of clematis. Such a neighborhood will protect the near-trunk circle from harmful insects, and will also create an additional shadow zone for the roots.

Clematis Queen Jadwiga: cultivar pruning group
After the foliage has fallen, in the fall, you need to do the pruning of clematis Queen Jadwiga. This culture is perennial, it grows quite actively, shoots are also formed quickly. Young stems need to be cut off entirely, leaving only lignified shoots. Weakened branches must be removed from the plants, and at a height of about one and a half meters, the upper part of the plant must be shortened. In spring, the shoots of past years give flowers and help young stems to form, which in turn begin to bloom in August.
In the southern part of Russia, the pruning of Clematis Queen Yadviga is carried out in the autumn, after which an additional mulching layer needs to be added, and so the plant very successfully goes to winter. Additional cover is usually not needed. If you are growing plants in temperate climates, it is better to use a covering material, as there is a risk that the plants will freeze.
To prepare clematis well for winter, you need to cut off excess stems and remove from the supporting structure. After that, the shoots must be rolled up in the form of a ring and laid on the spruce branches. On top of this, arched structures need to be installed, on which the shelter is stretched. On top, you can additionally lay spruce branches.
In winter, it will not be superfluous to cover the plants with a layer of snow. If, nevertheless, the part of the plant that is located above the ground is still frozen, it must be cut off in the spring. After that, the plant should recover soon enough.
As for the reproduction of Clematis Queen Jadwiga, only the vegetative method is suitable. It is better not to reproduce with the help of seeds, since the characteristics of the variety from the main clematis will not be preserved.
To propagate the large-flowered Clematis Queen Jadwiga using layering, you need to dig a not too deep groove, which will be equal to the length of the young stem. Next, the shoot must be bent to the ground and placed in the groove. After that, soil should be poured from above in the area of internodes, while the foliage should not go underground.
By the onset of the autumn period, the plant forms a root system, and in the spring, sprouts appear in the zone of formed roots. The division and, accordingly, planting of seedlings occurs the next year in the spring.
In addition, you can use the method of cuttings from stems that give flowers. The segments are cut in the spring until the buds begin to form. After the cuttings are placed in the soil, the soil needs to be moistened from time to time. For the winter period, additional insulation will be required, and seedlings are planted already in the spring.
As for diseases and harmful insects that can damage your clematis plantings, Queen Jadwiga, you can most often encounter soil fungus. This attack is manifested in the fact that the shoots begin to fade rapidly. Most often, clematis, which are not more than two years old, are affected by various diseases. As a rule, such problems arise when the rules of agricultural technology are not followed, for example, when the soil is too wet or when there is a lack of sunlight. As a preventive measure, in spring, shrubs need to be treated with a solution of copper sulfate. Quite often, flower growers are faced with such a problem as powdery mildew. This disease can be defeated with the help of special drugs. To do this, you can use Topaz, Skor or colloidal sulfur.
Danger to clematis also represent slugs. Metaldehyde helps to get rid of this pest.
Outcome
Not so long ago, the variety of clematis, Queen Jadwiga, originally from Poland, is not yet in great demand among flower growers. However, over time, popularity is gaining momentum, since Queen Jadwiga's large-flowered clematis has many advantages. The plant blooms with large white flowers, it will very well complement the design of the vertical form. Such clematis will look amazing in the design of arches, gazebos or vertical walls of buildings.
