Clematis Grunwald
Content:
Often, summer residents grow clematis not on the walls, but on special woven supports made of twine and wooden planks. But you should carefully monitor the plant so that it does not spread to neighboring plants growing in the summer cottage. It can look beautiful, or it can interfere with each other. For this reason, it is best to keep an eye on your plant. Today we will look at a hybrid like Clematis Grunwald.
Clematis Grunwald: variety description

Clematis Grunwald is a decorative vine, decorated with green leaves, sometimes with a lilac tint, as well as a large number of flowers that can be observed over a period of time (several months). The plant is well suited to decorate fences, walls, gazebos. Experienced gardeners say that you should not be engaged in the cultivation of one variety, if your participant has a good area, then it would be nice to grow 2-4 varieties that will bloom at different times, so you can get a flowering that will continue from spring to autumn months. As for the Grunwald variety, it belongs to the late large-flowered hybrids. A fairly new variety, it was created in 2014 by several Polish breeders. The characteristic features of the variety can be distinguished:
• Large flowers (about 12 cm in diameter), have a rich purple-violet hue. the petals have a velvety texture. In this case, the central part of the flower is yellow, and the seamy side of the petals has a darker color, which has a light strip.
• Leaves have a matte surface of bright green color, at first they grow on burgundy shoots, over time - brown.
• The length of the vine can be up to 3.5 m.
• A large number of antennae, which are present in every young vine.
Most gardeners prefer clematis for their long and beautiful flowering - it starts in June and lasts until August. But with proper care, the plant can bloom even until October.

The seed method is not suitable for breeding clematis. you can collect them on your own plot after the flowers are pollinated. But, the germination process will be long and painful, and even if you manage to grow a vine, it will differ significantly from the original variety. therefore, it is better not to use this type of breeding.
Cutting method.
Cutting cuttings is best done in June. The action plan is as follows:
• On the middle part of the vine, it is necessary to cut out several shoots so that there are 1-2 internodes. But it must be borne in mind that about 4 cm remains under the lower internode, and about 2 under the upper one.
• The lower part must be dipped in a cow, or in any other analogue of the substance.
• A moist substrate, such as peat and sand, is well suited for planting cuttings. Don't forget to tilt the shoot.
• It is necessary to germinate cuttings at a temperature of +22 degrees, using a film. To do this, put a bag on the container. This is a way to keep the moisture level near the plant at the proper level. From time to time, the plant will need to be sprayed, for this, the polyethylene is removed, and the substrate should be provided with good watering.
• When you notice that the plant is fully rooted, i.e. real leaves will appear, the plant must be transplanted into a separate container with ordinary garden soil.It is better to heat the soil a little in the oven.
• The capacity must be taken to the cellar for storage, for the winter. from time to time you will need to inspect the plant, monitoring the condition of the soil, maybe the plant needs watering. But watering will have to be in small quantities, because in a cool place and less fluid consumption. There are gardeners who immediately plant the cuttings in open soil for the winter, they just cover it very well.
• In late spring, it is necessary to transplant the cuttings into open soil. During the summer period, clematis will take root, by the fall you can even see several buds. But it is best to cut them off so that the plant does not spend a lot of energy on the budding process. The strength of the plant must be preserved for the winter.

Reproduction by layering.
Reproduction by layering is considered the simplest and most troublesome method of plant propagation. its essence boils down to the following:
• It is necessary to make the choice of the healthiest and strongest shoot.
• You will need to prepare a groove where you will then lay the plant. But care must be taken to ensure that the root system of the main plant is not damaged. the depth of the groove should be from 5 to 10 cm. making the trench too small is also not good, since the soil in it will constantly dry out, and this can lead to the fact that the plant may not take root in a new place.
• It is necessary to lay the vine in the groove, then you will need to pierce it in several places with wooden pegs, or you can take a thick wire. Well, you need to separate the plant from the mother bush. The top of the shoot should be visible from the ground, and a small amount of foliage should be visible along the entire length of the vine.
• Then the cuttings should be watered and mulched so that the soil remains moist for as long as possible.
• When you notice that the vine has taken root and has begun to let out a few leaves, then sprinkle its base with a small amount of damp earth.
• Large-flowered clematis Grunwald loves water, so it needs to be watered more often - the soil should not be allowed to dry out.
• By the onset of the autumn period, the cuttings should have a sufficiently formed root system. But it is best not to separate it, but leave it for the winter with the mother bush.
• With the onset of spring, an already independent plant can be transplanted separately to a permanent place.
We divide the bush.
Sometimes you can see a daughter plant growing next to the main vine. In spring, after pruning, such a plant can be divided. It is necessary to dig up the "baby" and transfer it to the future permanently growing place.
Growing Clematis
The plant does not differ in whimsical care. the most important thing for her is to make the right fit. Clematis is a perennial plant. But it must be remembered that a young plant that has just been planted in a permanent place does not tolerate winter frosts very well, but if it takes root well, then no cold will be terrible for it. There are regions in which the plant does not need shelter for the winter.
We are engaged in planting varieties.
Seedlings of Grunwald clematis must be planted in open soil with the onset of the summer period, when the possibility of frost return will be completely eliminated. Planting a plant in the autumn months, from September to October, is also a good idea. But before that, you need to look at the weather forecast in order to avoid the onset of frost for at least 1 month. this time will be sufficient for the plant to take root and be able to endure the winter period. when landing, the following points must be taken into account.
• The landing site should be calm and sunny, with some shade possible.
• As for the soil, the variety does not provide any requirements for it.It will be nice if the soil is not acidic, nutritious and light. When planting, the land from which you are transferring the plant should also be enriched with humus (2 buckets per 1 bush) and mineral fertilizers (100 g of superphosphate per 1 bush).
• The depth of the planting pit should be about 50 cm, but if the soil is clayey, then the depth should be about 70 cm. If your site is characterized by high humidity, then the pit still needs to be deepened by 10 cm, and do not forget to think over the drainage system to avoid stagnant water ... If the soil is light, then the plant needs to be deepened even more.
• You need to deepen the root collar by 6 cm. Also, do not forget to build a circular hole around the plant. After 1 year, it will need to be filled with soil in such a way that the buried part of the root collar increases to 10 cm. If the soil is light, then the deepening of the root collar is made even stronger.
• If you are going to plant several plants, then you need to keep a distance of 1 m between them.
• It is also necessary to install a peg in the center of the planting pit, which will serve as a support for the vine, clinging to it for the first months of its existence. The support will then need to be removed to avoid damage to the plant's root system.
• After planting, the plant must be well shed and mulched. Compost is good for mulching, you can take cut grass or peat. If a large amount of sunlight will fall on the plant, then you can shade the plant a little.
• After planting, 3 buds will need to be removed from the shoot. After about 3 weeks, when the plant has new vines, it will be necessary to remove 3 buds again. This way you can improve the growth of the plant, and it will look much prettier as it grows.
• Many gardeners install a stationary support, which is good at helping the plant grow in different directions, but the variety should still be tied up.
We take care of Clematis Grunwald
• Large-flowered Clematis Grunwald needs regular and abundant watering. In 1 year of life, the plant needs 3 buckets of water, starting from 2 years of age, 2 buckets will be sufficient.
• If you pinch early shoots, the flowering of the plant will be lush, but be prepared that the buds will appear a little later.
• Clematis Grunwald belongs to the 3rd group of pruning. This means that with the onset of spring or in the fall, the plant must be cut over 2-3 pairs of buds.
• If the plant is grown in the regions of central Russia, then the plant needs shelter for the winter period.
• In the summer, the soil must be loosened. You also need to remove weeds so that they do not interfere with the normal growth of the plant.
Clematis Grunwald: reviews of gardeners
Many gardeners who grow Clematis Grunwald talk about its strength and undemandingness. Also, many gardeners agree that it is better to plant Grunwald clematis on a light background. Only young plants need shelter. it has good frost resistance, so it does not need shelter. If you notice that in the autumn period the root collar has begun to be seen, then you need to add sawdust.
Experienced summer residents also agree on some other points of growing Clematis Grunwald:
- Large-flowered clematis Grunwald blooms for a long time and abundantly. The flowers have a purple-purple hue. the plants bloom from June to August. But even in the autumn months, one can observe the presence of lonely flowers.
- In order to reproduce a plant, you need to use seedlings. Vegetative propagation methods - cuttings and layering, less often it is necessary to divide the bush. But using seeds will not work in any way.
- The growing area should be lighted, without drafts.
- The plant is easy to care for. it is necessary to water on time and do strong pruning.
