Clematis variety Change of Hart was bred in Poland in 2004 and blooms for a long time. The variety was received by the Polish breeder Shchepan Marchinsky. The name "Change of Heart" appeared in 2014, it translates as "change in the heart". The variety has been on sale since 2016.
Curly bush, reaches a length of 1.7-2 meters. There is no need to tie up, because the vine winds on its own along the support.
The flowering of Clematis Change of Hart occurs for a long time from May days to July on new shoots and shoots of the last year, repeated flowering is often possible. The flower is simple, has 6 sepals. The flowers are of medium size, their diameter is 10-13 cm. The difference from other flowers lies in the interesting coloration, which changes during the flowering stage from purple-red to light pink. When the flowers appear, they are colored purple-red, when they bloom - red-pink, when they fade - they become lighter. Sepals have a light pink edging, even slightly bluish, and a light strip in the center, almost white at the base. In the middle of the flower there are stamens with yellow anthers on strings of a green shade and with yellow columns.
Clematis Change of Hart blooms profusely "from head to toe." The leaves are simple, trifoliate, heart-shaped, of the same tone, green in color, having a glossy surface. Young leaves are oval, pointed.
The flowering is very beautiful, judging by the reviews of florists, photographs and characteristics. The flowers are famous for their riot of colors, the clearing on the garden plot looks very decorative.
Clematis Change of Hart: Trimming Group
Clematis Change of Hart belongs to the third pruning group, which means that the plant is heavily pruned. The aerial part is left at a height of 0.5 m, it is important to keep 2-3 pairs of buds in it. Thanks to pruning, the bush becomes strong faster, therefore, it blooms more abundantly.
Plants in the third pruning category are more robust and able to grow in a fairly harsh climate.
There is no need to take care of the variety in a special way, the bush needs only to be properly trimmed early in the spring or in the autumn season. Moreover, it is necessary to leave 3 shoots, otherwise the plant will become small-flowered.
Clematis Change of Hart: planting and care

Clematis Change of Hart can be planted using such methods: seed or seedlings.
The most common method is seedlings with purchased planting material, because this method is less laborious.
Experienced gardeners use the seed propagation method. Due to the fact that this variety is a hybrid, planting will be more laborious, and not all of the seeds can sprout. Therefore, it is best to purchase seeds from a specialized store.
Seeds must undergo a stratification procedure. This will help the seeds germinate quickly and help the seedlings emerge more evenly. Stratification is carried out early in the spring, its duration is 1-3 months, it all depends on the size of the grains. Large seeds undergo stratification for a longer time.
Stratification Algorithm:
- A container is prepared for planting with soil consisting of peat, sand, earth, in a ratio of 1: 1: 1, respectively.
- Sowing seeds is carried out 2 cm deep (large size), 1 cm (medium size).
- The container is placed in a room with temperature conditions of 0-5 degrees, kept for a certain period of time, after which the plant is transplanted.
- After the seeds sprout, when several leaves appear, the seedlings must be dived. Transplanted directly into individual pots. After picking, you need to take care of it in the following way: water and shallowly loosen the seedling soil. Planting seedlings under the open sky depends on the planting method.
Kivistik method. The seeds are sown into the container, then they are sprinkled with sand and covered with polyethylene. Then the container is placed in a place with temperature conditions of 20 degrees or more. Seedlings grown in this way are planted in the last days of August.
Sharonova's method. Sowing of seeds is carried out in the first autumn month in a plastic container, the container is covered with plastic wrap and placed in a place where it is warm. Seedlings, when several leaves appear on them, are transplanted into individual containers. Seedlings are planted on July days with an interval of 1 cm from each other.
Sheveleva's method. Seeds are sown by stratification, then transplanted in the spring. When seedlings appear, they are transplanted under the open sky. The germination rate of seeds is high compared to other methods.
The planting site should be less sunny and windy, because the variety does not like drafts and scorching sun rays. The soil should be nutritious and lightweight. Planting seedlings is carried out at intervals of 20 cm from each other.
Clematis Change of Hart will grow more actively if the soil is mulched.
How to prepare Clematis Change of Hart for the winter season
To prepare the variety for the winter season, they begin with the circumcision procedure.
Pruning of clematis Change of Hart is usually carried out in the last days of October or from November 1-10, it all depends on the growing area. Prune the plant when the weather is dry. Only old shoots are cut off, their aerial part remains 30 cm.
Late in the spring, the soil is treated under a cut bush using an antifungal solution with the drug Fundazol (0.2% solution). It is advisable to mulch the near-trunk circle with sand and ash in a ratio of 10: 1, respectively.
In the autumn season, the vine is removed from the trellis and other supports, because in the winter season the plant can be severely damaged.
In addition, the clematis bush Change of Hart needs to be covered in order to avoid freezing.
Clematis Change of Hart: variety breeding
Clematis Change of Hart is propagated by two methods: cuttings and layering.
Propagation by cuttings is possible starting from three years. The most suitable cuttings are woody. It is best to propagate by cuttings in May or in the first days of summer. Shoots are trimmed, they should not have buds, but the shoot must have at least one node. After that, the shoots are cut into petioles, planted in the soil of sand and peat, and placed in a greenhouse.
Propagate by layering - longer in time, the method has two options.
First option. The plant is fertilized and huddled until the third leaf appears. Then the shoot is brought to the ground, there it takes root for 2 years. When the root system is strengthened, the seedling is separated from the mother plant, its top is cut off, and it is transplanted permanently.
The horizontal shoot of the bush is buried in the ground early in the spring and throughout the summer season. Moreover, the end of the shoot remains 20 cm above the soil, no less. Pinching of shoots is mandatory.
There is also a way to propagate the clematis bush Change of Hart - it is done by dividing it, but it is used only for adult plants that have reached 5 years of age or more.
Diseases and harmful insects
A fungal infection such as a black leg is especially dangerous for the variety. This disease affects in most cases seedlings. The fungus lives in the ground, for this reason, it must be disinfected before planting plants.
Outcome
The Clematis variety Change of Hart is a garden plant with unpretentiousness and sufficient decorative effect. If you plant a plant correctly and cut it off, then it will bloom profusely with flowers changing their color.
Clematis Change of Hart: reviews
Svetlana, 33 years old, Moscow region: “The Change of Hart clematis variety has been growing in our garden for four years now. Over the years, it becomes more and more beautiful, and unusually beautiful, because the number of flowers increases, plus they all become larger. Compared to the first season, the flowers have become twice as large. During the first two years, they were in awe of the new inhabitant of the garden plot. Watering was carried out at intervals, not under the root system, but at an interval of 10 cm from the trunk, to absorb water around the circumference. In addition, the soil was mulched. Recently, as the bush grows stronger, we hardly do any maintenance, we rarely water it, but the flowers make us rejoice only more. "
Natalia, 47 years old, Altai Territory: “Although I am an experienced florist, I planted the Change of Hart clematis variety not so long ago. In the last days of spring, I bought a seedling. I planted him in the sun, placed trellises on one edge, shading the bush. During the first two months, almost no development of the plant took place, it did not grow, but 2 flowers still blossomed. Closer to the last August days, I saw a brand new whip. But due to the coming autumn season, I cut the bush. After that, the plant was covered. Now I am waiting for the spring period to check how clematis survived the winter. "
