Cabbage is a simple and new technology for planting in open ground under a hood or sphere. Practical advice and advice on the preparation of planting holes and further care of seedlings.
Cabbage: briefly about the seedless method
The seedling method of growing cabbage is common among gardeners. They grow cabbage on their own, sowing seeds in early March in containers, then transplanting them into open ground. There is another option, they buy strong and fully prepared seedlings for moving to the garden in a store, bazaar or market. But there are also people who do not want to bother so much, waste time and increase the amount of work. They plant cabbage in a simple and new way - a seedless way.
What does the reckless way mean? It means that in open ground, seeds are sown immediately on a permanent site. Problems can arise only with the emergence of seedlings, but this problem is easy to solve. After the first shoots appear, they must be covered with a dome or cap, creating the effect of a microclimate that seeds need for further growth. The cultivation of cabbage under a dome or hood has its own subtleties.
Cabbage: the correct preparation of the holes for seed germination
In fact, in our time, experienced gardeners have long been growing cabbage in a seedless way. There are a number of problems they faced.
- The level of seed germination is poor.
Poor or unsuitable soil may be the cause. The centuries-old method of growing cabbage also breaks down. Due to the tiny size of the seeds, when the soil is moistened, they can penetrate into its depths, and from there it is almost impossible to break through to the top. It is recommended to use
small bottle for making planting holes. Simply insert the bottom of the bottle into the soil and twist to help compact the soil. Wait for precipitation in the form of rain and after it immediately start sowing seeds. If, according to the weather forecast, it is not worth waiting for rain, moisten the soil yourself.
Correct sowing
In the planting holes, which we made using a small bottle, we place four cabbage seeds each. We plant with an additional probability that the cabbage will sprout, since in the hole intended for one seed we have four.
After that, we fill all the planting holes with cabbage seeds with humus, tamp it. Place the dome or cap on top, press firmly on it so that it rests on the ground.
What can you make a cap or a sphere from?
- Bottles, but larger. Cut off the bottom and cover the cabbage seeds.
- Disposable tableware, namely cups. Make a hole in the bottom and cover the cabbage seeds. It is recommended to cover the glass with cotton wool for a week.
Simple seedling care
Leave them as they are until the cabbage sprouts occupy the entire area of the sphere or cap.
What should be the care?
- Frequent ventilation. Either unscrew the cap from the bottle, or remove the cotton wool from the glass for a while.
- When all the seeds germinate, we leave one - the strongest, the others are cut with scissors. If you try to do without scissors, simply pulling out will damage the root system.
- Water the area around the sphere or hood.
