How to grow garlic: we grow winter
Garlic is usually planted in the fall. Winter garlic varieties are very common. In garlic, which shoots, inflorescences appear. In this inflorescence, airy bulbs are formed - bulbs.
Cooking the beds
Garlic is very fond of a little clay and fertile soil, well flavored with organic matter. I do not recommend growing garlic on the same garden bed, the location should be changed at least once every two years. We equip the garden in an elevated, very sunny place. I start to cook the garden at the end of summer. I dig up the soil, bring in humus or organic matter. After this procedure, I dig the garden bed again and level it. I carry out the treatment with copper sulfate and cover the bed with a film. We begin to plant garlic 40 before the onset of cold weather. During this time, the garlic should set and develop a very good root system. I start planting garlic in mid-September. For planting in the winter, I usually use cloves from a new crop. I choose only strong and healthy heads and dry them well. I soak the teeth without mechanical damage in a salt solution, leave them there for two minutes. Then I transfer the cloves into a solution of copper sulfate, but not for more than a minute. Then I wash the teeth and plant them. In the spring, as soon as shoots appear, you need to loosen the garden. Watering garlic is required only in May; watering must be stopped a month before harvesting. If the summer is rainy watering is not required. In hot summers, garlic is watered once a week. Watering must be combined with top dressing.
The first feeding is required when the garlic has three true leaves. It is best to feed the garlic with urea. The second top dressing should be carried out two weeks after the first, fertilize the soil with liquid fertilizers. I do the last dressing in June, at the time of the formation of the bulbs, I fertilize the garlic with superphosphates.
We harvest and store the crop
I harvest the garlic in early August, as soon as the inflorescence on the arrow dries up and cracks, or when the garlic leaves turn yellow and dry. It is not worth tightening with harvesting, otherwise the heads will crack and the cloves will disintegrate, such garlic is not suitable for storage. Once harvested, the garlic is dried for about two weeks.
Growing spring garlic
The principles of planting spring garlic are almost the same as when planting winter garlic. It's just that sowing is carried out not in the fall, but in the spring in mid-April, as soon as the soil warms up a little. Planting spring garlic is carried out only in moist soil. After planting after about a week, the garlic needs to be fed with nitrogen fertilizers. The garden bed is regularly field and loosened. We adhere to strict watering schedules. Spring garlic is harvested around mid-September.They clean it well from the soil and dry it for a week in the bright sun. After that, the garlic can be safely stored either in the refrigerator or in the cellar.
