How to grow an avocado in the country?
Once I decided to grow an avocado on my site. The fruit turned out to be delicious, it took a little time, and it also brought pleasure. I was convinced that even such an exotic fruit can be grown right in the country in the garden. I'll tell you in more detail now.
First, you need to choose the right variety. After all, this fruit is grown in the south, so we choose the type that is suitable for the middle lane.
Some of the most popular are:
Fuerte Is a fairly popular variety of avocado. Its shape is pear-shaped, the stone is not large. The skin is thin and green in color. The color does not change during the ripening process. Avocado has a creamy sweet taste.
Pinkerton - fruits of this species can ripen both in winter and in summer. Keep in mind that summer has a rich taste, and winter is more watery.
Ettinger - The ripe fruit of this variety can resemble the taste of yoghurt, processed cheese, pine nuts or fried fish. This is a truly unique fruit. In addition, this type of avocado can be stored for a long time. It will not deteriorate, but on the contrary, it will acquire new taste sensations.
Gwen - This type of avocado has an average size of an oval-round shape. The skin is dense, and the stone is small and round in shape. The avocado is made with an omelet flavor with a fairly high fat content.
Reed - the fruit of this variety has a spherical shape. The skin is rather thick, the stone is round. It can taste like nuts and pears.
There are many other avocado varieties. Choose the ones that suit you best. Both in terms of taste and climate.
Second, plant avocado trees outdoors. It is desirable that the rays of the sun fall on it. If they are in a lighted place, then the harvest will be good.
Thirdly, the soil must be loose. It is best if it is rich in humus.
Don't forget about watering and make sure you don't overdo it. Loosen the soil as often as possible. This is necessary in order to enrich it with oxygen. Water the plant only when you see that the ground is dry. You don't just need to water the tree.
Many experienced summer residents know that avocado trees are fragile enough, so they must be protected from the wind.
Avocados can be planted either in soil or in a container.
If you understand that it is less than 8 degrees outside, then transfer the avocado to the greenhouse. Therefore, avocados need to be grown in such places so that in summer the tree can be safely outside, and in winter in a warm place.
It is rarely necessary to feed the plants, only once every four years. This must be done with special complex fertilizers.
It should be borne in mind that avocados should not be planted in hollows. The fruits do not feel well there, so choose the slopes that are not steep.
We figured out the avocado planting site, varieties and care. So what is the way to plant an avocado?
First, take the avocado seed and rinse it well, after which we give it time to dry. After that, put the seed in a plastic bag and put it away where there is no light. For example, you can put it in a closet. The bag should be sealed.
At this stage, light is not needed, you just need to wait for the moment when sprouts begin to crawl out of the seed. After this has happened, we take out the bag with the seed and leave it in the place where the rays of the sun fall. This must be done in order for the sprouts to get used to the sun. After 1-2 days, we transplant the seed into the ground.
One of the most important and difficult things to do with avocados is pollination. The difficulty of this action is that the fruits are divided into 2 types. And each type opens and closes at different times of the day. There is a female type. Such fruits open in the morning, close at the end of the day.
In the other type - the male - everything happens the other way around. So how do you pollinate them? Wait for the moment when the male flower opens. Once this has happened, collect some pollen. This can be done with a paintbrush or some similar tool.
The brush should be put in a bag and wait for the moment the female flower opens. Pollinate this flower with a brush and the pollen you got from another flower. Do the same with other flowers.
As you can see, avocados can be easily grown and enjoyed at any time of the year. Good luck!
