Content:
The pond adds sophistication to a garden of any level and size. It should not be massive if there is not very much space. You can create a mini-pond on your patio the size of a half barrel. Even such a small pond can enrich the look of your small plot of land.
Like all water bodies, the ponds are healing and relaxing. They are also a fantastic way to add variety to your garden. With aquatic and marginal plants, a rich variety of wildlife attracted by water and aquatic plants, any garden will look unique.
Garden pond: choosing a location
The best place for a pond is somewhere away from trees and shrubs, which can pollute the water with fallen leaves. At the same time, the pond is created for beauty, so it should be visible from the gazebo, from the veranda or from the window of the house.
There is a wealth of information about ponds - many large garden malls and nurseries have sections dedicated to them. In addition, you can always turn to local water specialists for advice and related information.
Choosing a way to create a pond
The most popular way to create a pond on site is with a flexible butyl liner. It allows you to create the desired shape and size. It is considerably easier to install than a pre-formed rigid plastic mold. Another option for creating a pond is concrete. With this method, there is a risk of cracking and leakage with any movement of the ground.
Create a pond
1) Determine the perimeter and shape of the pond using a string or hose. Start digging it out.
2) After the pond hole is ready - flatten it with a thick layer of sand or old carpet. This will prevent sharp stones or roots from piercing the lining.
3) Ask someone to help you drape the lining over the future pond. Distribute it neatly without dragging and secure it on the sides with bricks.
4) While the pond is filling with water, trim the sides of the pad so that the overlap is 12 inches (30 cm). Secure it with cemented stones or peat.
5) Plant lilies in baskets filled with compost water. Any other suitable plants can be planted directly in the mud on the sides.
6) Place your plants where they will thrive.
7) The water will soon clear up, as any sediment will sink to the bottom. If you want to add fish, wait six weeks for the plants to grow.
Taking care of the pond after winter
• When the temperature rises, the pond comes back to life after winter dormancy.
• Be sure to test the water. Make sure it contains the full balance of essential nutrients for animal and plant health.
• Remove all dead and dying plant material so that it does not pollute the water.
• Remove weeds and excess floating plants from the surface so that heat and light can penetrate deeper.
• Check the health of your fish. Once the water temperature reaches 10 C, start feeding them again. They can still be lethargic, so don't overfeed them. Cover the pond with a net to protect them from hungry predators.
