Content:
Irises are the most delicate and beautiful flowers. Distributed almost all over the world. In our area there are more than 250 species of these wonderful flowers.
Irises: plant in spring
The roots of irises are similar to threads, have one or more peduncles. The leaves are flat with a slight bloom. There is practically no stalk of irises, it is very short. The color of the iris flower is varied, it all depends on the variety. Usually the iris stays in the open field for the winter. But it is best to propagate it in the spring. Therefore, you need to know all the rules for planting iris in the spring. For planting, I most often use my home planting material. But when I want new varieties and flowers, I go shopping at a gardening store. Before planting, I process the roots of plants well and examine them for the presence of diseases and pests. I weed out the diseased roots, cut off the healthy ones. After the pruning is completed, I send the roots to the manganese solution for 20 minutes. When planting irises begins, make sure that the soil is moist and loose. The high acidity is very favorable for the development of irises. Planting irises is very simple, we put the spine horizontally and fill it with soil. Make sure that the top of the root system remains on the surface of the soil. We spill the flower bed very well with warm water. If the weather is very dry, the bush should provide shade for the irises. Water the irises every five days.
Irises: autumn planting
It is possible to transplant irises into the soil in the fall, but there are some nuances. You need to prepare a plant for autumn planting in the same way as in spring. Before the onset of frost, we must cover the irises with a film, non-woven material or spruce branches.
Neighbors in the flowerbed
The best neighbors in a flowerbed for iris are marigolds, peonies, tulips. Also, irises get along well with low shrubs, which will slightly shade the flower bed with irises.
Care
Irises are not whimsical and do not require close attention to themselves. This flower tolerates drought quite calmly, but when the irises bloom, do not let the soil dry out. Weed and loosen the flower bed from time to time. If you notice diseased or damaged leaves, you need to carefully cut them off. For the entire season, iris needs only three additional fertilizing. The first feeding I carry out as soon as the snow cover melts. The second, as soon as the irises have formed buds. The third time I feed the flowers, a month after the beginning of their flowering. In late August or early September, almost all varieties of irises will fade. Plants begin to prepare for the hibernation period. There is no need to water the irises at this moment. To ensure that the roots of the iris do not stop their development, cut off the dried leaves and flowers. Diseased or damaged greens should also be removed from the plant.
Storage rules
Many gardeners have at least once wondered whether it is necessary to dig irises for the winter? I can confidently answer, no, it is not necessary. But if you nevertheless decided that it is best for irises to spend the winter in the cellar, then I will tell you how to do it correctly. Preparing iris for wintering: - well clean the roots from the ground; - we cut off long and sore roots; - thoroughly disinfect the roots; - we dry; - we pack in non-woven material. Iris is best stored in a wooden box, on the bottom of which it is best to pour needles or sawdust. We carefully wrap each root in cloth or paper, and fold it so that the roots do not touch each other.
We propagate and transplant
It is best to transplant irises in the fall, and then in the spring they will get stronger and will delight you with exuberant flowering.Transplanting rules: - carefully dig out the bushes and clear them of the ground; - we examine the bush for damage and diseases; - cut the roots with sharply sharpened scissors; - sprinkle the cuts with ash; - we dry the roots in the open sun; - we plant irises in holes at a decent distance from each other.
