Ginger at home: preparing for planting at home
Externally, ginger is very similar to sedge, because it forms false shoots from the foliage. If you grow ginger indoors, then in its growth it can reach one hundred centimeters. The growing container must also be suitable. Not very high, but wide container will suit him. A wide pot is needed due to the fact that the root system of the plant grows abundantly. For planting it, a universal soil mixture for vegetable plants is perfect.
Once you've decided on a pot and soil, you need to choose a seedling. After all, the future harvest directly depends on the quality of the planting material. When you choose a root for planting, you need to pay attention to the presence of eyes, there should be many of them. Also, the root surface should be smooth, without mechanical damage and defects. If the ginger root is in poor condition, then it may not germinate at all.
How to properly plant ginger root
Before planting ginger at home, the root must be well prepared. It must be put in a container of warm water for a certain number of hours. Next, with a sharp clean tool, it must be cut into pieces along the jumpers. Then you need to wait a certain amount of time until the cuts are dry. For greater safety, the cut sites can be disinfected with charcoal powder.
In order for ginger to grow and develop well, you need to create comfortable conditions for it. This crop should be planted either in winter or at the very beginning of spring. Almost any soil can be used, it just needs to be loose, well-drained and not hard. A soil mixture of this type is needed so that future shoots sprout easily and grow and develop faster. It is also recommended to feed the plant with those fertilizers that include potassium elements.
You can grow a ginger plant not only in home walls, but also in a warm period of time, put a pot with it under a tree with a lush crown, so that it is in partial shade. It is impossible for him to be exposed to direct sunlight, this can adversely affect him and cause burns.
Ginger at home: plant care
Due to the fact that in its natural environment ginger grows in humid tropical conditions, it needs to ensure regular and abundant watering, but it is also important not to overmoisten its soil. If the soil in the pot is too wet, then this will adversely affect its root system, as it can begin to rot. To prevent such an unpleasant situation from happening, there should always be a drainage layer in the container with the plant so that the water does not stagnate in it.
If you can provide the necessary conditions to the maximum, then the ginger may begin its flowering period. But it should be remembered that only a completely healthy, strong and adapted plant can bloom, but this may take more than one year.
In adult specimens, not only roots, but also stems with foliage are eaten. They can be added to salads. But if your goal is to grow exactly the root, then you better not cut off the shoots and leaves.
It will take at least eight months for the root to fully mature and be fully eaten.
Place the ginger container in a cool place with high humidity.
