Pear Sheehan
Content:
The Sheehan pear is a winter variety that originated in the northern region. All experiments were carried out at the Caucasian-Northern Research Institute dealing with gardening and grape breeding. Sheehan appeared thanks to the crossing of Bere Napoleon and Toulouse. The title of the author of this variety belongs to M. Sergeev and I. Kostetskaya. It was they who decided to carry out crossbreeding, as well as various tests in the North zone.
Pear Shihan: variety description
The Sheehan pear tree is a medium-sized tree. The crown shape is similar to a pyramid, but it only persists at a young age. Over time, the shape becomes more rectangular, as it sinks under the weight of the fruit. The branches are close to each other, so the leaves are densely packed inside. Because of this, pruning should be done regularly so as not to interfere with the development of the pear. The branches themselves are curved, and close to the trunk. The bark of the tree is gray and slightly flaky. The shoot of the Shikhan pear variety is weakly geniculate and naked, on it are small lenticels, and the buds are strongly bent to the side. If we consider the sheet, then it is elongated and slightly pointed at the end. The edges of the sheet rise upward, and there are also white lines on the sheet itself.
Features of the variety
- Fruit.
Sheehan pears are quite large, which greatly distinguishes the variety from others, since the fruits are usually small in size. The fruit itself has the correct shape. The peel of the fruit is smooth, thin, but dense, therefore it protects well from external influences on the pear. When eaten, it is not felt.
When fully ripe, the pear remains green, but parts of yellow or orange appear. Sometimes a slight tan, brownish tint may be noticed due to exposure to sunlight. The variety has many black dots, but they are not particularly noticeable. The stem of the Sheehan pear variety is medium in size and slightly curved.
The inside of the fruit is very juicy and tender; many gardeners describe that the pear melts in the mouth. The fruit tastes very sweet when fully ripe, which is why it is often planted.
Each Sheehan pear contains 18% dry matter, 12% natural sugar, 10% vitamin C, 60% other vitamins and nutrients.
- Harvesting.
You can start harvesting at the end of September, when the fruit is fully ripe. If, after picking, pears are stored in a cold room, then they can lie for 30-40 days. If the gardener wants to leave the fruits for long-term storage, then the collection must be carried out earlier, around the middle of September. With such a harvest, the crop can be stored for 2-3 months.
