Pear Palmyra
Content:
Pear Palmira is considered a summer variety obtained thanks to the works of the breeder A.M. Lukashov in the Khabarovsk fruit and berry nursery. The variety was born by crossing the Ussuri pear and the Central Russian variety Ilyinka... The first fruits of its subspecies gave out in 1943, and this variety began to multiply a little later, in 1947. The Palmira pear variety was bred specifically for cultivation in the Khabarovsk Territory and the Primorsky Territory. It is quite widely known in the same regions as the Tyoma subspecies; it gained particular popularity in growing on personal plots and collective gardens.
Pear Palmyra: variety description and characteristics
The Palmyra pear tree has an average height and a fairly compact crown. Shoots are quite thick and straight. The buds are protruding and have a large size, and also an oblong-round shape. The fruiting period begins on wood with an age of 2-3 years, and the fruit formations appear in the form of short spears and ringlets. The foliage on such a tree has an ovoid wide shape, with a heart-shaped or round, obtuse base. Each individual leaf is endowed with a wavy structure and dark green color; pubescence is absent on the leaves. There is serration, but finely serrated. The petiole of this plant is elongated and thin, has a pale green color with an orange tint. The fruits of this variety, when ripe, are small in size, one might even say that they are small. On average, each such fruit has a weight of 45-65 grams, a short pear-shaped, with a slight roundness. The peel of the fruit has a sweaty structure and its main shade is considered to be yellowish-green, while the integumentary color is a blurred blush of a burgundy hue. The peduncle is elongated and curved, has an average thickness. The saucer and funnel are shallow and the cup is open. The seed chambers of this plant are closed, the seeds in them are large and have an ovoid elongated shape, as well as a dark brown color.
The inner part of the Palmyra pear is quite juicy and white in color, has a sweet taste with the presence of sourness. According to its taste characteristics, this subspecies is considered the best among the varieties bred by this breeder. The inside of these fruits contains such substances as: pectins - 0.4 percent, tannins - 0.6 percent, titratable acids - 0.8 percent, total sugars - 11.4 percent, dry substances - 17.3 percent, and also P-active substances - 220 milligrams per 100 grams, ascorbic acid - 4.2 milligrams per 100 grams of the product. The fruits of this plant ripen fully in the last days of August and, accordingly, are immediately suitable for human consumption. They are firmly attached, and their shelf life is about one and a half to two weeks. This subspecies is considered an excellent table variety, which is great for making jam, compotes, and also in whole drying.
Pear Palmyra begins to enter the fruiting period in the third year of life, and bear fruit en masse 5-6 years after grafting. Compared to other varieties bred by the creator of this variety, the yield of this fruit tree is lower, but constant. When counted for 20 years, this variety produced about 650 kilograms from one of its trees, and if considered in an annual ratio, then about 32.5 kilograms with the highest yield of 45 kilograms from one plant. These plants have a good level of resistance to cold and burns. The Palmyra pear variety has excellent immunity to the most common disease - scab, and the variety is resistant to other diseases.
