Content:
Pear Small, or as it is also called "Thumbelina", was bred by the breeders of the Krasnoyarsk OSP NN Tikhonov and AS Tolmacheva. They achieved good results and at the end of the 80s of the last century the Nevelichka pear variety was accepted for state testing, and already in 1993 it was included in the State Register and recommended for cultivation in Siberia - in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia.
Pear Small: variety description and characteristics
Small pear trees are medium-sized trees - the name of the variety is not related to the size of the tree. The moderately dense crown has a neat conical shape. The grayish-green bark on the trunk and the main powerful branches is rather smooth and sometimes has a silvery tint. The shoots, on the other hand, are painted in a dark red-brown color, sometimes they even acquire a purple hue. Small buds are pressed to the surface of the shoots, the convex transverse lentils are also very small in size.
The fruits of the Small pear are formed mainly on ringlets, both on simple and complex ones, but sometimes ovaries also appear on spears (on branches that are two to four years old).
The leaf plates are gray-green in color, the usual oval for pears with pointed tips and a finely serrated edge. The leaves are located on small petioles of medium thickness.
Snow-white small flowers have a very strong aroma.
Fruiting begins in the sixth year, but only by the eighth year can the harvest be called rich.
Pear Small is not self-fertile, so you will need to plant other pears in the garden, which will act as pollinators for each other. For the neighborhood with "small", the most suitable varieties are "Veselinka"," Olenek "," Sibiryachka ","Krasnoyarsk large».
- Description of the fruits.
Small pear fruits are very small (hence the name of the variety), their weight is from 25 to 45 grams. Their shape is called "short pear-shaped", although it is more like the shape of an apple. The peel of the fruit is oily, smooth, shiny, by the time of harvest it is colored greenish, while almost half of the fruit is covered with a brownish-red "blush", which becomes even brighter during ripening and storage. The white, tender pulp has a fine-grained texture. Fruits, sweet with a slight sourness, contain a very large amount of juice.
Pears of the Nevelichka variety ripen in the first days of autumn. It is very important to harvest the harvest on time, since when the pears are fully ripe, they immediately crumble. At room temperature, the fruits are stored for about two weeks, but at a lower temperature, the shelf life increases to a month.
Despite their small size, these pears are very popular for their taste, sweetness and juiciness. In addition to fresh consumption, Nevelichka pears are used for the preparation of juices and compotes, mashed potatoes and marmalades, preserves and jams.
