Pear Kuyumskaya
Content:
Pear Kuyumskaya was bred in the Siberian Research Institute of Horticulture by scientists V.S. Putov and I.A. Puchkin. Tests began in 1989, and ten years later the Kuyumskaya pear variety was included in the State Register. This variety is recommended for cultivation in Western Siberia.

Pear Kuyumskaya: photo of the variety
Kuyum pear is a compact tree of short stature with a spherical crown, not very dense, but well leafy. On the main branches and trunk, the bark is greenish-brown, the shoots are painted in a more saturated brown color. The leaves are medium in size, oval, slightly pointed at the ends. The edges of the leaf plate are finely serrated, and the top is slightly twisted. The leaves are painted light green.
As for many fruit trees, for the Kuyum pear it is necessary to select pollinators - varieties that bloom at the same time. This will provide you with a richer harvest.
The Kuyumskaya pear is fast-growing and the first, albeit a small crop, can be harvested already in the fourth year after planting the tree.
Kuyumskaya pears ripen in late summer or early September, so the variety can be considered both late summer and early autumn.
The fruits of the Kuyum pear are rather small, their weight is no more than 60 grams. The shape can be described as “short pear”, meaning it has a classic “pear” silhouette, but the upper part is not very elongated. By the time of harvest, the fruits are greenish-yellow, reaching full ripeness, becoming completely yellow. The fruits of this variety do not have a cover color and characteristic for many other pears "blush". The subcutaneous points are clearly visible, but the funnel is practically not pronounced. The relatively long, slightly bent stalk is not very thick.
The white pulp of the Kuyumskaya pear variety has a rather coarse fine-grained texture. Despite the high sugar content (12% per 100 grams), the taste of the fruit does not boggle the imagination and is considered mediocre. Therefore, pears of this variety are more suitable for processing than for fresh consumption. They make excellent compotes, preserves, marmalades and confitures.
Fruits are stored even at low temperatures for a very short time - no more than 8-10 days.
Pear Kuyumskaya: advantages and disadvantages
Since the Kuyumskaya pear variety was recommended for cultivation in the Siberian regions, it is obvious that its most important advantage is its high winter hardiness. Experts even call it outstanding and use this quality to develop new varieties.
In addition, the advantages include good yield and regular annual fruiting. And the compact size of the tree makes harvesting much easier.
It should also be noted the good immunity of the plant and the ability to resist fungal diseases.
The two main disadvantages of the Kuyum pear are the low taste of the fruit, as well as the very short shelf life of the fruit.
Conclusion
Despite some shortcomings, the Kuyumskaya pear has its fans. It is very difficult to find a pear variety that has historically been a thermophilic plant that can withstand the harsh Siberian climate. And not just to resist, but also to give good harvests every year. Therefore, if you need an unpretentious fruit tree, thanks to which you can stock up on compote and jam for the whole year, then the Kuyum pear variety will be an excellent choice.
