Gelichrizum
Content:
Gelikhrizum is a wonderful plant that has an interesting and bright color, it is also interesting that this flower has a long flowering period. This means that its beauty will delight the gardener for a long time. At the same time, the freshness and color of the plant does not fade, but remains the same as at the beginning of flowering. Many gardeners dry the flower petals after flowering, and they still retain their color. Very often Gelikhrizum is used by florists, as together with it beautiful compositions are obtained, both fresh and dry. Gelichrizum refers to plants that do not require a lot of attention and only need basic care. Also due to the fact that its easy to grow, the cost of flowers remains low.
At the moment, there are about 600 subspecies of Gelichrizum, and they all differ from each other according to different criteria. When growing a plant, you must choose a planting method, since there are 2 methods. The first method involves the use of seeds, and the second method uses seedlings. The most important thing in caring for a flower with Gelichrizum is watering, since the plant tolerates a large amount of water or stagnation very poorly. This is due to the fact that during water stagnation, a fungus begins to form in the root system, which affects all roots and the plant may die.

Gelikhrizum: description of the plant
The Gelikhrizum plant is considered perennial, but among the many species one can also find annual flowers. But there are quite a few such species and the main percentage is perennials. The blooming period of Gelikhrizum begins in early June and ends in late August or early September.
Note: If autumn is warm in your region, then Gelikhrizum will bloom until early October.
From Latin Gelikhrizum means golden glow, this name was given because of its color. Also, the plant has other names, very often it is called immortelle, tsmin, immortelle, yellow flower or golden flower.
Note: Since this plant grew for some time in Madagascar and developed there, you can hear the name Madagascar gold. This name was given to the flower not only because of its growth in Madagascar, but also because it has an orange-yellow color.
Basically, the plant develops in warm regions.

How to propagate a plant?
Usually, two methods are used for reproduction of Gelikhrizum - by seeds and by division. For reproduction, you need to wait until the plant has completely faded. Then you need to start collecting the boxes that are on the plants. These capsules contain seeds. These seeds are subsequently planted and new individuals of this culture grow.
The second method is characterized by dividing the plant into 3-5 parts. That is, the Gelikhrizum plant is taken and separated by a sharp garden pruner, after which it is immediately planted in the ground. In the soil, part of the plant develops and forms its own root system. The result is several full-fledged flowers that were grown from the same crop.
Note: Many gardeners decorate their plot with annual flowers. This planting is much easier than growing a perennial crop.

Preparation of seedlings Gelikhrizum
Seeds of Gelikhrizum begin to be sown in early March.Planting seeds of Gelikhrizum is carried out in small containers with 4-5 seeds in each hole. After sowing, you need to water the seeds a little and cover with glass or film. In this way, a kind of greenhouse is formed, and in such conditions the sprout will appear faster. After small sprouts begin to appear, you need to remove the glass and film. In a few days, the seedlings of Gelikhrizum will get stronger and ready to be transplanted to a permanent place. It should be borne in mind that the temperature in the open field should be high enough, about +18 degrees. If the temperature is below +16, then the transplant is postponed for some time.

Gelikhrizum: planting a plant in open ground
Only the mature seedlings of Gelikhrizum are transplanted into the open ground. If the transplant is carried out too early, the sprout in the new place will simply die.
When to transplant seedlings of Gelikhrizum?
Transplant Gelikhrizum should be carried out in the spring, when the weather becomes warmer, about +18 degrees. Also, no frost should be observed at night. This period usually falls in mid-April or early May, depending on the region in which the transplant is made.
Where to plant?
Before transplanting, you need to think over the area on which Gelikhrizum will grow. The best choice would be to plant in the southern part of the territory, as there will be enough sunlight for the flower. The plant is very fond of light and warmth, so they must be present throughout the season. If it is planted in the shade, the plant will be sluggish and the flowering period will be shortened. A very common occurrence when planting in the shade is the complete lack of flowering.

Soil for Gelichrizum
Absolutely any soil can be located at the landing site of Gelichrizum, since it is precisely this criterion that Gelichrizum is indifferent to. It grows well, both on black soil and on loamy soil. The only thing is that the soil should not be located to retain moisture for a long period. The soil should be fertile, but for this nutritious feeding is applied at the beginning of planting. Usually it includes peat and sand.
Note: When transplanting, it is worth considering the location of the groundwater, since an excess or stagnation of moisture can lead the flower to death.
Algorithm of landing Gelikhrizum
When planting Gelikhrizum, some rules must be followed. Firstly, with large-scale plantings, it is necessary to observe the distance between individuals, about 40 centimeters. The distance may be slightly larger, since it all depends on the variety that the gardener is planting in his area. Keeping a distance is a very important rule when planting, as it allows the plant to function properly and does not interfere with others' development.
The next rule is that before planting, you need to apply top dressing to the soil in order to give the sprout the first nutrients that it will spend on growth. Usually organic substances are used, about 2500-3000 grams of humus or compost, about 10 grams of mineral supplements are added to the organic matter. This introduction should take place 7-10 days before the transplant is carried out.
Note: Gelichrizum has a pleasant positive side, which is that it can grow with absolutely any plants: chamomile, lobelia, sage, rosemary, lavender, thyme and others. At the same time, it does not take nutrients from them and does not interfere with their development.

Gelichrizum: plant care
Gelichrizum requires minimal attention, hence basic care. It consists in watering, fertilizing, pruning and preparing for the winter period.
Watering
Drought or lack of water Gelikhrizum tolerates well, so if you rarely water the plant, it will have a good effect on the plant. After all, the most dangerous for the culture is excess moisture. It must be avoided and the soil of the plant must always be slightly dry, without excess moisture.
Fertilization
It is very important for Gelikhrizum to apply top dressing to the soil, since thanks to them it fills with strength and spends it on creating beautiful buds, which further delight the gardener. Often gardeners use mineral fertilizing, which consists of nitrogen and phosphorus. On average, about three additional dressings need to be applied per season, this amount is enough for the plant to function well.
The first feeding is carried out already 2 weeks after planting. In the first application, it is necessary to use a complex top dressing, since it will provoke active growth in the plant, as well as its strengthening in the soil. In the rest of the dressing, fertilizer is used, which will seem to the gardener necessary for the culture.

Trimming
Pruning of Gelikhrizum is carried out once a season, in summer. During pruning, all shoots and branches must be removed 2/3 of the entire length. It is very often practiced to completely cut branches, since during the winter they dry out and break. Therefore, pruning branches will help avoid branch breakage.
Preparing for the winter period
Preparing the Gelikhrizum plant for winter is quite simple. It is necessary to insulate the root system using peat and sawdust. First, you need to lay the peat around the trunk of the plant, and then lay the sawdust on top of the peat. Such a shelter will make it possible to survive the winter perfectly.
You can also transplant the bush into a box and put it in the house, and with the onset of spring, plant the plant back into open ground.

Plant diseases
Gelichrizum has a high immunity to diseases and pests, but still some pests can settle on Gelichrizum. The plant can get sick with aphids or a burdock caterpillar. It is very simple to get rid of them, it is enough to carry out the treatment with a systemic drug, which is aimed at combating this pest. I would like to note that when planting a crop with other plants that are prone to diseases, Gelikhrizum heals a neighboring plant, and it starts to hurt less often than usual.
