Violet Arctic frost: variety description and characteristics
Violet Arctic (or, as it is often called violet Arctic Frost) is an unpretentious and attractive variety. Belongs to the Gesneriv family. The plant is able to reveal all its advantages, only if there are favorable conditions and proper care. But you will not be able to properly grow a plant if you do not know for sure its characteristic features, and also if you cannot create an optimal microclimate for it. Violet Arctic was created by an American breeder. Variety of violets Arktika frost belongs to such varieties of violets that have standard sizes, are capable of building powerful, large rosettes with large foliage.
Violet Arktika frost also has a nodding, exemplary flowering. Fully opened buds can reach up to 9 cm in size. The plant was named due to the color of its flowers, which can really resemble arctic frosts. Simple and semi-double stars of a snow-white hue have a variable blue border, there are blue streaks in the center. The variety is distinguished by strong peduncles that can withstand a lot of large buds. They are located in the center of a symmetrical rosette, which gives an adult plant a special elegant appearance.
Violet Arctic has gained its popularity due to the fact that it has a high quality flowering. often the plant became the champion among the varieties of blue and white. The opening of the buds occurs together, the number can be more than 18, and the stages of the dissolution of flowers can be different, and each time you can observe the appearance of new peduncles. Due to the fact that the flowering of a plant occurs in different ways, depending on the air temperature in the room, one plant can differ in white-blue, almost white and even almost blue shades of buds.
It is best to grow a violet of the Arctic frost variety on the bottom shelf of the rack, or on a cool windowsill - this way, you can ensure that the flowers are decorated with a variable border that will resemble frost. The plant does not react well to a large amount of fertilizers - this has a negative effect on the color of the buds, which turns blue, without the presence of a white tint. For this reason, it is necessary to monitor the dosage of the necessary fertilizers so as not to get into a similar situation.
Violet Arctic is a rather sporty variety, but you can easily distinguish all possible deviations in the appearance of the plant. a young plant with light leaves, have a clean, white flowering, there is a dark speck on the plastic - all this suggests that the color of the buds in the future will be correct, and if the foliage is blue, then it is a characteristic feature of only one variety - Evening Splendor ...

Many believe that the violet Arctic frost is a whimsical and capricious houseplant that can show its character at any convenient moment. But these negative consequences can occur if you do not properly care for the plant. In order for the flowering of the Violet Arktika variety to be long and lush, the plant needs to provide a long daylight hours, choose the right container and soil for growing, adjust the irrigation regime and periodically apply fertilizers.the temperature regime and the level of humidity are more of a secondary role - the plant is not very well able to withstand hot weather, in order to avoid this, it is necessary to ventilate the room.
Lighting mode. Adequate lighting is a prerequisite for bud setting. Violet Arctic frost needs a 10-14 hour light regime, for this reason, in the winter period, the plant will need an additional support. It is possible to use fluorescent or LED lamps. A large number of gardeners use the second option, since it is more economical if you look at the amount of electricity consumed, and is also able to raise the temperature near the plant well.
When choosing a lamp, it is very important to pay attention to the glow temperature level.
The most optimal will be 4000-6200 K, since it is the closest to natural conditions. For windowsill cultivation, it is best to choose the east or west side. The southern side is characterized by direct sunlight, which can cause burns to the plant. If you do not have the opportunity to rearrange the plant to the other side, then you need to think in advance how you will shade the plant. To do this, you need to stick reflective film or paper on the window.
If you place the Violet Arktika Frost variety on the north side, then the plant will experience a lack of light, then you will need to think about additional lighting.
We select a container for growing. Modern varieties of violets prefer small containers. You don't have to choose a large pot. The most optimal capacity is a container, the diameter of which will be 3 times less than the diameter of the outlet. For standard varieties, it is best to choose containers whose diameter will not be more than 9 cm. In such containers, the root system of the plant will be able to develop properly, and will not feel bad from a large amount of soil. It is important that the container has drainage holes in order to prevent moisture stagnation, which can negatively affect the root system. The main thing is that the soil is loose, breathable and light. The composition of the soil will vary depending on the type of watering you use:
- Top irrigation - high-moor peat and perlite - 2: 1 or 3: 1.
- Wick irrigation - peat and perlite - 1: 1.
To avoid various diseases and mold, it is recommended to add crushed activated carbon and sphagnum moss - a natural antiseptic. If you want to get rid of possible pests that may be in the soil, you must first heat it in the microwave, steam it over a water bath, or use a special solution - Fitosporin - the water will acquire a slight color.

Water the plant. Violet Arctic frost does not respond well to abundant watering. At the same time, you will not see the consequences of such actions immediately, only after a certain number of days. A particular danger is the excessive moisture of the soil in a hot period of time - the plant can die from the onset of bacteriosis, which can quickly spread along the trunks and foliage. You should adhere to some of the recommendations related to watering the plant:
- Watering violets of the Arctic frost variety should be only using warm water or water at room temperature, which must be defended for several days or passed through a reverse osmosis filter.
- Hard water needs softening, for this you need to add 0.5 tsp. oxalic acid in 5-6 liters of water.
- Leaving water in the sump is not allowed - if you are using overhead irrigation. Make sure that there is no contact of water with the root system of the plant for a long period of time - with wick watering.
Do not forget about the drainage layer, in which you need to add foam at the bottom of the container to prevent rotting of the plant root system.
Fertilization. You need to apply fertilizers only 1 month after transplanting the plant, so that the plant can begin to receive additional nutrition, which will include micronutrients and other substances important for plant growth. Such special fertilizers as Kemira Lux, Peters, Royal Mix have proven themselves quite well. It is best to reduce the dose by 2-3 times that which will be indicated in the instructions for use, but the plant will need more frequent fertilization, especially for the flowering period. the plant will need a sufficient amount of phosphorus and potassium, because it is they that affect the budding process.
It is very important to apply fertilizer only to moist soil to prevent scalding of the plant's root system. The best option would be to dilute liquid or powdery dressings in the water with which you will water the plant.
If we talk about the temperature, then it should not be cool, but not very hot either. The plant can be negatively affected by an increase in temperature up to +26 degrees, and maybe +24 degrees can have a negative effect on the plant. The lower range can vary from +11 to +13 degrees.
