Fayus

According to various sources, the genus "Fayus" has from 30 to 45 species of plants, all of them belong to the family "Orchid". The word "fayus" is translated from Greek as "dark", the name of the orchid was given due to the fact that the flowers are painted in dark tones.
As a rule, orchids are capricious plants and require some care from the grower, but fajus is completely undemanding. Therefore, if you plan to grow orchids, then it is recommended to start with fayus.

All fajus varieties are terrestrial plants. Pseudobulbs reach a diameter of 6 cm, they release several light green leaves and a long peduncle, which necessarily requires support, since its height can vary from 80 cm to two meters depending on the type of plant.
The Fayus orchid blooms at the end of winter, the number of buds formed can be from 8 to 20 (this depends on the type and size of the plant, as well as on the care and environment). Sometimes sepals are confused with petals, as their shape and color are similar: their obverse is usually dark in color, and the reverse is white or cream in color. Flowering lasts a long time, some species also have a pleasant aroma.
Fayus perfectly coexists with other indoor plants. And in the warm season, it can be placed on the balcony or on the veranda.

After you brought the Fayus orchid home from the store or greenhouse, you need to quarantine it (in fact, this should be done with all new plants). This plant is very fond of harmful insects and snails, it is not always possible to identify their presence at the time of purchase, so you will have to observe the plant for several days and, if necessary, treat it.
During the adaptation period, watering should be very moderate, just enough so that the substrate in the flower pot does not dry out completely. In the future, water Fayus with settled water at room temperature as the soil dries. Waterlogging should be avoided, this often leads to root disease and sometimes causes the death of the plant.
It is not necessary to increase the air humidity especially for Fayus. If you are using a spray bottle, then you need to spray around the plant and make sure that moisture does not get on the leaves. If the air in the room is still too dry, then place containers of water next to the plant, which will provide additional moisture.
Ideally, provide Fayus with a stable air temperature in the room from +17 to +25 degrees, severe hypothermia or overheating should be avoided, as well as drafts. The plant does not need a cool dormant period.
Unlike most indoor plants, Fayus Orchid is recommended to be fertilized annually. Feeding is carried out with watering about once every three weeks; in winter, you can feed the plant once every 5-6 weeks. When preparing the nutrient solution, use half the recommended dosage. In flower shops there is a large selection of fertilizers for orchids, if you have no preferences, then you can choose any: "Kristalon", "Cameleon", "BonaForte", "KemiraLux".
Fayus: orchid transplant

The first time you need to transplant the Fayus orchid after purchase, while the plant is in quarantine. It is necessary to act very carefully, as most orchids have an extremely fragile root system that can be easily damaged if not done carefully.Pick up a plastic flowerpot; you can use orchid soil as a substrate, which is easy to purchase. In the process of the first transplant, it is just necessary to very carefully examine the plant for the presence of pests.
In the future, Fayusu will need to transplant only when the roots completely fill the container. In the process of transplanting, do not completely bury the pseudobulbs, they should partially be on the surface. Found damaged roots must be cut off using a very sharp and sterile instrument. Fayus can be transplanted at any time of the year, the main thing is not to do it during the flowering period, as stress. Transplant-related, can lead to shedding of flowers and buds.
Reproduction
Fayus is propagated in two ways: by dividing the bush and dividing the peduncle.
When dividing a bush, each new plant should have at least two pseudobulbs and one new shoot. All work must be done very carefully - we have already focused on the fragile and delicate roots of fayus. After such a procedure, the plant can bloom only after 1-2 years; after transplantation, a rather long adaptation period takes place.
With the help of a peduncle, Fayus can be propagated after the last flower has faded. The peduncle must be cut off and divided into several parts, with at least three buds on each segment. Prepare a container with orchid substrate, place the resulting cuttings on it and cover to make a mini-greenhouse. Perhaps some sections of flower stalks will die, but the most viable ones will give roots after a while. After that, they should be planted in flower pots of the appropriate size and looked after in the same way as for an adult plant.
Possible problems and solutions

At the very beginning of the article, we talked about the fact that pests can be found on Fayus. Snails can be collected by hand, but spider mites and aphids will have to be removed with insecticides. For orchids, you can use "Aktara", "Fundazol", "Apollo", "Vermitic".
If you abuse watering, then there is a possibility of encountering the spread of different types of rot. In this case, fungicides should be used to solve the problem: “Fitosporin"," Trichodermin "," MikosanV ".
Any changes in the appearance of the Fayus orchid indicate its discomfort. Your task is to quickly find and eliminate the cause of this discomfort:
- if the leaves of Fayus turn red, then the problem is most likely with too bright lighting, it is worth placing the plant on another windowsill or shading it from direct rays.
- dark spots on the surface of the leaves are formed from water droplets that fell on them during spraying and did not have time to dry during the day.
- if the peduncle and pseudobulbs begin to rot, then the problem is precisely in excessively abundant watering and, possibly, in the use of cold water.
- if the long-awaited flowering does not come for a long time, then either the Fayus orchid does not have enough light, or it has not yet finished the adaptation period after transplantation.
