This must be done in the spring in the garden!
With the arrival of spring, not only nature awakens, but also various insects emerge from hibernation, many of which are pests of fruit and berry plants, trees and shrubs. This stage is very important in order to properly carry out spring work in the garden; it is necessary to protect the still immature leaves, buds and buds.
Sewing up fruit trees
Perhaps the most common and extensive of insect representatives are dolphin beetles... Many of their species are pests that cause great harm to farms, forests and gardeners. Many people are familiar with the expression "crying kidneys" - this phenomenon is just the result of the activity of the weevil beetle. In the spring, they rise to the crowns of trees and gnaw out depressions in the buds, from which juice flows out later.
How to deal with these gluttonous beetles?
In the morning, when the air temperature does not exceed 10 °, it is necessary to shake the tree onto a bedding cloth (at high temperatures, beetles, as a rule, fly away). The beetles collected in this way are dipped into a bucket of water diluted with kerosene. This method is relevant in the period from swelling of the kidneys to budding.
In the period from the swelling of the buds, a special glue, such as "Pestifix", is applied to the tree trunks. It is necessary to make a strip of several layers of paper 5-6 cm, apply glue and tie to the trunk. Beetles will get on the glue for some time. Then they are destroyed. When trees are in bloom, the stripes must be removed.
Another method of dealing with weevils is spraying trees with bio- and chemical preparations. For example, in the fight against such diseases of apple and pear as Scab, Fitoverm is used (10 ml / l). This drug is suitable if you find a small number of beetles at the beginning of bud break.
Thus, during budding, when you see the appearance of a green ovary on them, such spring work as spraying the tree with Bordeaux liquid, the so-called "blue" spraying (300-400 g of copper sulfate and the same amount of lime per 10 liters of water ).
For the prevention of pest control, it is necessary to re-spray with Bordeaux liquid in a lower concentration (100 g of copper sulfate and 100-150 g of lime per 10 liters of water) or copper oxychloride (90% wettable powder).
Other, no less dangerous and harmful pests are caterpillars butterflies and caterpillars of the winter moth, apple moth, gypsy moth and many others.
Today there are several effective methods in the fight against these pests.
Injections. To date, the introduction of an insecticide preparation is a progressive method in the fight against different types of caterpillars. It is widely used on all woody plants. It is necessary to take into account the disintegration time of the drug, if applicable, for fruit trees. The use of the drug in this case is possible only before harvesting.
Biological preparations. Such drugs as: Monsoon, Bitoxibacillin, Senpai and others are used to reduce the number of larvae, if they are already available on the site. Unfortunately, this method does not give a complete guarantee of getting rid of pests.
Insecticidal treatments. These are chemicals that act on the pest at all stages of its development. There are many classifications of insecticides, but the safest for humans is pyrethroids. This group of drugs can be used in the early spring period, which is a necessary preventive measure in garden plots.
Another uncomplicated method in the fight against caterpillars is whitewashing the tree trunk.
