Effective ways to combat diseases and pests of conifers
Content:
Despite the fact that conifers are quite unpretentious crops, they are susceptible to various diseases and pests. Coniferous plants develop especially poorly in unfavorable conditions. These plants do not like high humidity, close location of roots to groundwater, flooding by floods, drying out of the root system, as well as a lack of iron and nitrogen. As a result of the influence of these factors, the plant weakens, which means that the risk of infectious diseases increases. Diseases of conifers should be treated as soon as possible.
Brown shute (brown snow mold)
This is one of the most dangerous and common diseases. It is caused by a fungus that primarily affects young plants, even in nurseries. This disease is manifested by a black and gray bloom on dead brown needles. The development of the disease is facilitated by high humidity, too dense plantings, damage and prolonged melting of snow.
As a preventive measure, first of all, you should pay attention to how the trees are planted. Young conifers from older ones must be planted separately. Sick and fallen needles should be removed regularly, and diseased branches should be cut and burned.
For treatment, Bordeaux liquid (1-2%) and other preparations with copper are used. They can also be combined with fungicides. The damaged ephedra is treated every 10 days.
Diseases of conifers: Rust
Many plants are susceptible to a disease such as rust. And conifers are no exception. The disease manifests itself as orange spots. The needles begin to turn yellow, dry, and then fall off.
Damaged twigs and needles must be removed and destroyed. This will prevent the disease from spreading. Fertilizers are applied to increase resistance.
Gray mold
It is also a fairly common disease that develops in conditions of high humidity, in places where moisture accumulates and in shady areas.
If the disease has already affected the tree, then all affected areas must be removed and destroyed. And treat the ephedra with Bordeaux liquid (1%) twice with an interval of 10 days.
Diseases of conifers: Fusarium
Conifers are more susceptible to this disease. Initially, it attacks the roots of the plant. They become brown and gradually rot, After the disease spreads to the entire plant, as a result of which the needles turn yellow and the tree gradually dries.
If the plant is already infected, then it cannot be cured. Such trees are uprooted directly from the ground and burned. To prevent the disease, the roots of young seedlings are treated with special preparations (Fitosporin-M, Fundazol).
Pests of conifers
Like diseases, conifers have a lot of pests. Let's consider only the most common ones:
Bark beetles are beetles that live under the crown of trees. They can cut many strokes in wood. The fight against the bark beetle involves the treatment of the ephedra with special preparations (Clipper, BI-58).
Sawflies damage spruce and pine. These insects resemble small bees. For wood processing, drugs such as Bi-58, Decis, Fury are used.
Scabbards damage, as a rule, yew, thuja and juniper. It is possible to determine that a tree is affected by scabbards by the growths under which they are hiding. The needles turn yellow, after which they fall off.To combat insects, insecticides are used (Admiral, Aktara, Aktellik). It is necessary to process the tree at least twice with a break of 10 days.
