Home flowers: 11 natural fertilizers, rules of use
Content:
Home flowers, just like plants in the garden, need high-quality fertilizers for active growth and flowering. You can use purchased chemical preparations for feeding them, or you can make them yourself from natural products. Let's see how to do it!
Home flowers: signs of a lack of fertilizer
Houseplants only consume nutrients that were in the soil when planted. These substances are consumed quickly, especially if the plant is in bloom. Some of these fertilizers are consumed by the plant itself, some is washed out during watering. It is imperative to replenish nutrients, since with a lack of them:
· Growth slows down.
· The stem is elongated and the leaves become smaller.
· The buds cease to form.
· Flowers are falling.
· Leaves are deformed.
Spots appear on the stems and leaves, which can gradually spread to the entire plant and cause its death.
· The risk of fungal and bacterial diseases increases.
· Decreases resistance to pests.
Home flowers: types of natural fertilizers. Sugar
Ordinary granulated sugar, if diluted in warm water and watered plants, will have a good effect. In autumn and winter, the plants after such feeding grows well, does not stretch, and retains a bright color at the leaves. In spring it starts flowering faster.
Sugar is a carbohydrate from which the plant's body is built, and together with carbon dioxide, it is well absorbed by the roots.
To prepare top dressing, take one teaspoon of sugar and dilute it in 500 ml of water. Fertilize no more than once a month.
In addition to sand, in a store or pharmacy, you can buy pure glucose, without unnecessary impurities, and feed flowers with it.
It is important to remember that sugar is absorbed by the roots only in combination with carbon dioxide. Otherwise, such fertilization will do more harm than good, since sugar causes the reproduction and growth of bacteria and fungi, which can cause disease and lead to the death of the plant.
To prevent this from happening, add any microbiological preparation with sugar.
Thick from brewed coffee
After making coffee, do not throw away the grounds as they are a source of minerals and organic acids, which are great for feeding your flowers. When adding thick, not only gradually releases nitrogen and other useful elements, but also improves the structure of the soil. Increases its moisture and breathability.
Dry the grounds before use. Then it is mixed with flower soil, one teaspoon per 500 ml of soil. Then this flower soil is added to the soil, 500 ml is enough for five liters.
You need to know that this fertilizer acidifies the soil, therefore it is not suitable for all plants.
Yeast
Baker's yeast can also be used for plant nutrition, as it contains a lot of useful substances: B vitamins, trace elements, minerals (nitrogen, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, etc.), hormones.
When introduced, yeast promotes the decomposition of organic matter, strengthens the plant's immunity, stimulates the growth of roots and all aboveground organs. Therefore, they can also be used for rooting cuttings.
To prepare the solution, I take 10 grams of dry yeast (sachet).Add a couple of tablespoons of sugar and pour 1.5 liters of warm water. Leave to ferment for an hour. Before adding the solution is diluted in a ratio of 1: 5.
Yeast affects all plants, but they are more effective on flower crops. This fertilizer is applied during bud formation and after flowering.
Together with yeast, the plant is recommended to be fed with potassium and calcium.
Wood ash
Ash contains phosphorus, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium and other elements. It is excellent as a mineral nutrition. Its chemical elements increase the plant's immunity and provide rich flowering. Ash introduced into the soil reduces the risk of disease, reduces soil acidity. It can be applied both dry and in the form of a solution, for the preparation of which you need to take two teaspoons and pour a liter of hot water, insist for a couple of days and can be used.
Banana and citrus peels
Banana peels are high in potassium, as well as calcium and phosphorus. The zest is rich in minerals (potassium, calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, sodium), organic substances (proteins, carbohydrates), ascorbic acid and essential oils. All this makes them a wonderful fertilizer for your houseplant. By using them together, you will not only enrich the soil with nutrients, but you will also be able to prevent the appearance of certain pests, such as spider mites.
To feed from a banana, chop the peel, fill it with hot water, leave to infuse for a day, then strain and you can use it. You can also prepare a solution from dried peels. To do this, cut it up, dry it at room temperature, and then stir it with earth for flowers. The rind will gradually decompose and nourish the plants.
For feeding from the peel of citrus fruits, finely chop, fill with hot water in a ratio of 1: 3 and leave to infuse for a day. Then strain and can be used.
Home flowers: onion husks
The husk contains trace elements (iodine, zinc, potassium, phosphorus, iron, etc.), vitamins (C, P, E, group B), phytoncides, antioxidants. Therefore, it is suitable not only for feeding plants, but also for protecting them from pathogens and insect pests.
To prepare a nutrient solution, 50 grams of husks are poured with two liters of water and boiled for 15 minutes. Then it is cooled, filtered and used for irrigation. In addition to the solution, the husk can be added to the soil dry. It will improve the structure of the soil. And mixed with ash will be an excellent fertilizer.
Nettle decoction
Green nettle contains potassium, calcium, magnesium. To prepare the solution, pick a whole bucket of nettles, add a pack of dry yeast there and leave to ferment for three days. Then strain and watered, diluted 1:10 with water.
Potato broth
Potatoes contain a huge amount of nutrients and many of them pass into water when cooked. Therefore, do not pour it out when cooking potatoes, but rather pour them over your plants.
Home flowers: aquarium water
If you have fish, do not empty the water when cleaning their tank. It contains a lot of nutritious mineral, organic substances. This fertilizer will be 100% natural.
succinic acid
Used as a growth stimulant. Helps plants to cope with stress, accelerates recovery after transplantation or disease, increases resistance to adverse factors. Accelerates the breakdown of harmful substances contained in plants or soil. Stimulates the growth of roots, new shoots. Can be used for rooting cuttings.
To prepare the solution, dissolve one tablet in a liter of water. To reanimate the plant, the roots are placed in the solution.
Biohumus and humic acids
Good organic fertilizer. Unlike manure, which is difficult to use at home, it has no smell and pest larvae.Contains many nutrients and minerals.
Home flowers: rules for the use of fertilizers
The very first feeding should be carried out no earlier than 2 months after transplantation.
To prepare solutions, you need to take clean, filtered water.
For young plants, use less concentrated solutions than for adults.
In winter, feed the plants less often, since they are dormant.
