Decorative leafy and decorative flowering indoor plants
Content:
Have you decided to arrange a flowering garden, a tropical jungle, or a mixed greenhouse at home? You need to consider that decorative indoor plants are all different. They have different requirements for humidity and air temperature, for watering and maintenance. Therefore, often among inexperienced gardeners, some of the plants die. Because everyone is looked after equally, without taking into account individual characteristics. To avoid this, let's discuss which groups the plants are divided into and how to care for each of them.
Two groups
According to the main features, indoor flowers are divided into two groups: decorative deciduous and decorative blooming. The names speak for themselves. Instances belonging to the first group are valued precisely for the foliage, which can have the most unusual shapes and shades. Moreover, the flowers of such plants are often not particularly attractive. But on the other hand, the second group is valued precisely for the flowers, sometimes completely extraordinary.

The group of decorative deciduous plants is huge, it includes more than 150 species. As we have already said, their main feature is a variety of beautiful foliage of all kinds of shades of green with the addition of white or yellow, burgundy and purple. Foliage can be either monochromatic or spotted, striped, with a border of a different color. And also change color depending on lighting, season or temperature.
The shape of the leaves is also striking in its variety: round, oval, heart-shaped, dissected, with wavy edges. They are all absolutely incredible. Such plants bloom 1-2 times a year. But often flower growers even remove flowers so that all the plant's strength goes to maintaining the beauty and health of the foliage.
Ornamental deciduous plants are usually easy to master in an apartment. They have less lighting requirements. But on the other hand, they require a strict irrigation regime, react to changes in temperature and humidity, and prefer nitrogenous fertilizers. You will immediately notice deviations from the rules in care - the plant will begin to lose its decorative effect, the tips of the leaves will dry out.
The decorative-deciduous group can be divided into several more subgroups: all types of palms, various vines, trees and bushes, ivy, predatory plants, and many others. Some of the brightest representatives of this group, undoubtedly, can be called some types of begonias (and the rest of the species will be the brightest representatives of flowering), all ficuses, dracaena, date palm, eucalyptus and dieffenbachia.

Plants of this group are loved and appreciated precisely for flowering, which is not always easy to achieve and wait for. For example, I have geraniums and violets blooming regularly. But Eucharis is quite capricious. And without observing all the necessary conditions, you cannot wait for delicate and unrealistically beautiful flowers from him.
All plants in this group of ornamental indoor plants will grow and feel great in your home. But you can achieve annual (or even 2-3 times a year) flowering from some of them only if certain conditions are met. And the duration of flowering is different for everyone. Some bloom almost all year long (yes, rarely, but it happens). Some last weeks or months. And there are specimens that bloom for only a few days. But they usually compensate for the transience of flowering with the brightness and beauty of flowers.
Flowering ornamental indoor plants are very demanding on light and watering regime. After flowering, they need to provide a dormant period for some time, so that the plant can recuperate for further flowering. Requirements may vary: a cooler or darker place, moderate watering and no fertilization.
When the plant has rested, it will let you know that it is ready to bloom again. Speaking about the representatives of this group, one cannot fail to mention roses, fuchsia, rather unpretentious geranium and capricious phalaenopsis, as well as violets and balsam. When purchasing decorative flowering plants, be prepared to devote time to them, water and feed them. Remove fading inflorescences in time. Monitor humidity and temperature carefully.
But in my opinion, both deciduous and flowering ornamental indoor plants require equally careful care. After all, it is pleasant to admire not only beautiful flowers, but also juicy healthy foliage. With any plants it becomes more comfortable at home, it is easier to breathe, but what about the chores ... So, these are pleasant chores!
