The action is rough or star-shaped
Content:
Another perennial plant that I would like to consider is rough action. It is a tree planting, which can be either evergreen or deciduous - everything here will depend on the type and variety of planting. The plant belongs to the hydrangea family, which is why it is of particular interest. The genus combines about fifty different plant species that can be found in natural, natural conditions almost everywhere - in East Asia, Mexico or the Himalayas.
Rough action: description of the bush
As practice shows, in the middle latitudes, the rough action shrub began to be cultivated relatively recently, and has already found its fans, although it cannot be said that we have a lot of information about this plant, although in this article we will try to reveal in detail all its specifics and main features and peculiarities. The rough action fell in love with gardeners and flower growers precisely because her flowering is not just spectacular, but also quite long. In European countries, Japanese and Himalayan types of action are very actively cultivated, which were brought there by Dutch merchants at the very beginning of the 19th century. But if we talk about Chinese species, then European gardeners learned about them very late - only at the end of the 19th century, when it was already known about completely different species and plantings of the rough deltia. One way or another, the rough deytion shrub is a unique plant. In this article, we will talk about its features, how to properly plant action in open ground, as well as what types and varieties of action exist, what are their specifics and features. The plant becomes even more beloved by gardeners, and every year this love only increases. This is due, of course, to the fact that it can give a variety of shapes and colors, as well as the fact that the plant is unpretentious.
Rough action: planting and care
Rough action: photo of a bush
Rough action shrub can be either erect or spreading. Its height can also be different, it varies within indicators such as forty centimeters and four meters, a lot depends on the type of plant, and, of course, on the species and varietal characteristics. Outwardly, the action bush very much resembles honeysuckle, but it will last exactly as long as flowering does not begin. Usually, flowers bloom in abundance on last year's branches and shoots, a lot of pink or snow-white flowers appear on the bush, which at the same time do not exude absolutely any aroma. All of them are part of the predominantly apical inflorescences, and the inflorescences themselves are in the form of tassels. The lifespan of action is about 25 years, which is also its feature, because not all plants can successfully grow in the same place and perform their decorative functions for such a long time. The fruit is a capsule that can either be cut off or left directly on the plant to attempt self-seeding.
The action is best planted in open ground in the spring. At this time, the earth is already thawing, warming up enough, but the kidneys have not yet had time to fully wake up or open up. A seedling with a closed root system can be planted before summer. Before planting a plant directly, you should take care of choosing a planting site, because actions on it will have to grow for a long time, and therefore it is best to approach this with full responsibility.
The rough action shrub takes root well in spacious and open areas, while in the afternoon the branches and the plant itself should not be in direct sunlight, since there is a great risk that the plant will receive severe burns, which will affect not only its external qualities, but also on the general health of the plant. It should also be borne in mind that action does not always respond well to drafts or strong gusts of wind, and in general, it can lose its decorative features and features if it suddenly finds itself in such conditions, so it should be carefully protected and protected from them. The soil should be slightly moist, well-drained, and rich in micronutrients and substances. Drainage is necessary so that moisture does not accumulate in the area of the root system, otherwise there is a high risk that the plant will start to rot, and it will be either very problematic or impossible to save it.
Ideally, a soil mixture, which includes peat, compost, humus and sand, is perfect for planting a rough action. They should be taken in a ratio of 1: 2: 2, but usually this ratio can change, much also depends on the initial state and composition of the soil. If at the site of planting action the rough composition of the soil is completely different from that which we need, then such a soil mixture will need to be poured entirely into a prepared planting pit. Also, the action needs a slightly alkaline soil, and if it is too acidic, then during planting the action is rough, you can add a little slaked lime to it. In such cases, it is generally worth paying closer attention to the soil composition, since the future state of the plant and the tendencies of its growth and development will depend on this. In addition, in general, this lies with the full responsibility of the florist himself, so if he is sufficiently focused on a good decorative result, then it is better for him to take care of this in advance.
The selection of seedlings should also be very careful, and it is best to purchase them in specialized nurseries or stores. It is worth paying attention to the fact that there are no damage on the stems, signs of fungi, rust or other diseases, and it is also worth examining the buds and root system, because in fact they will be the very driving mechanism due to which the plant will develop in the future and grow. Seedlings in containers can be slightly more expensive than those seedlings whose root system is open, but sometimes gardeners are not particularly bothered by the financial issue, since they are very interested in growing such an interesting plant on their site. But right there it is worth keeping in mind one point - if the seedling is in a container, then on the spot it is impossible to assess the condition of its root system, and therefore sometimes gardeners come across rotten or too dry, damaged or deformed seedlings, which are on the site, of course they will not grow. When purchasing seedlings with an open root system, it should be borne in mind that they should be planted immediately after they were purchased; during transportation, the root system should be wrapped in a thick sheet of paper so as not to harm them. Such seedlings cannot lie too long, otherwise they will begin to dry out, irreversible processes will begin, and the planting material will be lost again.
Before the plant is placed in open ground, it is necessary to remove all damaged branches from the seedling, and the roots are shortened to forty centimeters. If suddenly the root system is obviously dry, then for about three hours it is placed in a clay mash, while about a liter of potassium permanganate solution is added there, which should be pale pink. This will not only restore the root system, but also disinfect it, because manganese is an excellent antiseptic agent that is also added to the soil.
When a gardener plants an action in open ground, then he should adhere to several rules and recommendations. When planting a rough action, it should be borne in mind that the distance between the shrubs should be at least 2.5 meters, since the root system and the plants themselves must have enough personal space in order to develop safely and give excellent growth and decorative results. In addition, it is no secret to anyone that in adulthood the action bush is very wide, so of course it should have enough space so as not to interfere with other plantings and not touch them. The planting hole should be about half a meter deep, a drainage layer is placed on the bottom so that all excess moisture leaves and does not stagnate in the root system. The drainage layer can be made from different components - from expanded clay or pebbles. Coarse sand or broken brick - it all depends only on which of these materials will be available from the gardener himself. After that, the root system of the plant is placed in the hole, it is carefully sprinkled with soil mixture, which we have already mentioned in a little more detail above. At the same time, one hundred grams of mitrofoska should be added to the soil mixture, so that the composition becomes even more saturated for action, and so that the plant adapts to the conditions even faster. After planting is completed, the neck of the plant should be either at the same level with the top layer of the soil, or it can be slightly deepened into the soil - just a couple of centimeters, no more. The soil of the planting soil is slightly compacted so that air pockets do not form, the bush is also abundantly watered with melt or rain, boiled or filtered water. Standing room temperature water is perfect. The bush will need to shorten all the stems, leaving from three to five viable buds, since this process will increase the bushiness of the plant, which means its upper part will be denser and more decorative. The trunk circle is mulched using humus, compost, sawdust or ordinary straw for this. The layer thickness can be about five centimeters, this will be quite enough for the plant to feel great in the future.
It is not difficult to take care of the rough action shrub, besides, if the top layer is mulched, it will save the gardener from a lot of additional hassle. Action may not react in the best way to too waterlogged soil, so it is not worth watering it too often. It will be enough to water about once a week, but it should be abundant - about ten liters under one shrub. During a too dry and hot summer, the amount of water can be doubled, this will benefit the plant.
Around the second half of August, the plant can be completely moistened. Watering will be completed, and after that the soil should be very well loosened, and loosening should be carried out to a depth of twenty to twenty-five centimeters, no less. All weeds that have managed to grow in the near-stem circle of the plant are removed. As for feeding, it should usually be done about once a month, but here the gardener is repelled by the state of the plant itself. About four liters of liquid manure is applied under each bush, since organic matter is perceived best of all. Mineral complexes can be applied throughout the season; about 150 grams of this fertilizer are required per bush. But right there it is worth keeping in mind that fertilizers are applied only when the bush enters the stage of its flowering, the rest of the time this should not be done.

If the florist has decided to transplant the action, then it is recommended to appoint it for the spring. The fact is that a transplanted bush that has been moved from place to place at another time of the year may simply not have time to get accustomed to new conditions before winter comes, and there is a great risk that the plant will simply die in the new conditions. The plant should be removed from the soil very carefully, the clod of earth around the root system should remain intact. The bush digs around the perimeter of the crown projection, then it is carefully removed from the ground along with the roots and a lump of earth. Then it is transferred immediately to a new planting pit, which is prepared in advance. There should already be a complex fertilizer in the pit. In order to fill the hole, you can use the same soil mixture, one hundred and was used during planting with a rough action, while it should be well tamped so that air pockets do not appear. The plant is abundantly moisturized. When the plant is transplanted to a new location, it is recommended to prune it by removing any old or damaged branches. Those branches that are in a normal state should be pruned by about a third. In this case, the trunk circle is mulched, since this procedure is in any case mandatory and quite standard. If the bush is still very young, then it can transfer the transplant much faster and less painful. But an adult bush takes much more time to get used to new conditions and survive all the above interventions. So it is worthwhile to constantly look after him, monitor all growth and development trends, so that in the event of any situations, you can quickly help him and restore his favorable state.
Caring for the action also assumes that the grower will prune the plant, and pruning must be regular. It is worth pruning the plant twice in one season. The first pruning is scheduled in the spring, but the second in the fall. In the autumn period, all branches that have bloomed in the current year must be cut to the very base, or you can leave the very first strong and viable bud from the base. You can also remove all old branches, branches that have been damaged or sick, since they can cause excessive thickening of the action crown, and this should never be allowed. Together with sanitary pruning, shaping is also carried out, because thanks to this, any desired plant shape can be created. In the spring, branches that have frozen over the winter are shortened, and branches that have been damaged are also removed, since they can slow down the growth and development of the culture. In the event that the bush has felt on itself all the "charms" of the winter period and is very badly damaged, then it is worth cutting it down to the very stump - thanks to this, it will recover faster, so do not worry too much that such drastic measures will inevitable death of the plant. In addition, it is recommended to do the same if the plant is already aged and the gardener has decided to carry out anti-aging pruning.
The action bush differs in that it is very resistant to disease and attacks from pests and insects. In general, very rarely the plant is exposed to the invasion of bumblebee proboscis, which do not mind eating the leaves of the plant. To protect the bush or get rid of uninvited guests, it is recommended to treat it with solutions of malophos or phthalophos, which should be at a concentration of about 15%. In general, you should also carefully study the instructions, because these drugs are very serious, and in order not to cause even more harm to the plant, you should be extremely careful in your own measures.
As a rule, during flowering, the plant looks simply amazing, and can delight the grower for a very long time. The flowers last for a very long time, they are bright and juicy, really summer. But the time comes when the flowering of the action ends, which means that winter will soon come. When planting a bush, it should be borne in mind that it has practically no resistance to cold or frost. Due to the fact that flowers are formed mainly on last year's shoots, it is very important to protect them from frost and freezing, and this should be done as best and carefully as possible. Otherwise, there is a great risk that the plant will simply not bloom next year. In areas where winters are generally not so severe, and there is usually very little snow, the action bush may not be covered with anything, but the branches should still be bent closer to the surface of the ground so that the tips do not freeze. Such simple procedures can save the plant from any misfortunes, and in gratitude it will give an unforgettable and very attractive flowering.
If the star action still grows in those places where the climate is harsh, winters are long and harsh, then they must be covered for this time. At the same time, the snow cover will not protect the plant in any way, so it is worth using an air-dry method of sheltering the action. To do this, the bush is carefully bent to the surface of the ground and fixed with hairpins. After that, it is worth taking care of the cultivation of the so-called frame, sprinkles its surface with dry foliage, and you can also use spruce branches, which are usually excellently obtained from large spruce branches. Lutrasil is covered from above, and another layer is stretched over it, which consists of polyethylene. All this is necessary so that the plant remains warm, and so that water does not penetrate into this frame. This method is ideally suitable in order to protect very young shrubs of action, since its branches are very elastic, and it is easiest to bend them to the surface of the soil. If the shrub is already quite adult, then it is important to tie it very tightly with twine, and instead of twine, you can also use twine. On top of the tied shrubs, packing material is installed, which at the same time must allow enough air to pass through - agrofibre, burlap, spunbond or other materials, some can be purchased directly from specialized flower grower stores. This will help protect the plant from severe frost or winter gusts of wind, while protecting the buds from damping off, which can usually be very harmful to the overall planting condition.
Types and varieties of action, their characteristics
Basically, action is cultivated in the middle latitudes of our country, and there are several main species and varieties. Some of them are really very popular, and now we will tell you in more detail why.
Deytsia Amur, or in other words, it is also called small-flowered action - in natural conditions, the plant can be found almost everywhere in China and North Korea, in the Far East. In Russia, this species mainly grows in reserves and is recognized as protected. In general, the Amur deytsia grows very well in coniferous and deciduous forests, in oak forests, while it can very often be found at an altitude of one and a half thousand meters above sea level, and this is far from the limit. The plant turns out in its appearance as a deciduous shrub, its shape, accordingly, is very spreading, but this is its peculiarity. The height of the bush can be about two meters, the branches are covered with brown bark, which changes its color with age, becoming more gray. The length of the sheet plates is about six centimeters, they resemble an ellipse in shape. In the spring or summer, the leaves have a rich green or slightly ash color, but in the fall their color changes - the leaves become ocher, or brown-yellow, but still look incredibly attractive. The inflorescences are multi-flowered, their diameter is about seven centimeters. The composition includes snow-white flowers without a characteristic aroma. Flowering lasts about twenty days, it begins in the very last days of June. At the same time, the fruits do not represent any decorative value, since they are inconspicuous, painted in a dirty yellow tint. This type of action differs in that it is very fond of humid and lighted areas, while the shrub is completely resistant to too severe droughts, to gas pollution or air pollution, so that it can grow even in those areas where, in principle, not all plants can take root. The plant is distinguished by high rates of growth and development, and flowering begins early, if you compare this species with all the others.

Deytion graceful - the second type, which we will consider in the framework of this article. Its homeland is Japan, but the bush very quickly gained popularity in many other countries of the world. Its height can be different - sometimes it is half a meter, and sometimes it is one and a half meters. The bush itself is round in shape, the branches are thin, arched. The flowering is quite abundant and lush, due to which the bush looks very bright and decorative. The leaf blades are oblong, elongated, slightly pointed at the ends. The length of the leaf is about six centimeters, and it is painted in a pale green hue. The flowers are white, collected in erect multi-flowered inflorescences in the form of tassels, the length of one brush can reach nine centimeters. Flowering begins around the second half of July, while it is quite long - about 35 days, and sometimes a little longer. In general, this type of action is valued for these properties and, moreover, it is completely unpretentious, although some gardeners say that under unfavorable conditions, sometimes the shrub can be very capricious and refuses to demonstrate its growth and development.
Rough action (otherwise it is also called star action) - this species is also native to Japan, and it could also be found very often in China, but now this type of action is common in Russia. The height of this attractive and very graceful shrub is all 2.5 meters. The color of the bark is brown at first, sometimes light red, but over time it begins to flake off. The leaves are pale green, ranging in length from three to eight centimeters. Flowering in this species begins much later than in other species, and this is its difference. The brushes are 12 centimeters long, the flowers can be painted either white or pink. Flowering lasts from 15 to 20 days, while several decorative forms of this species are found at once, it is also worth saying a few words about them:
- terry action is rough - the inside of the terry decorative flowers is snow-white, but the outside is painted in a rich pink shade
- the action is rough whitish - has double flowers of a snow-white shade, respectively
- deytion star vaterera - the flowers inside are painted white, and the outside is painted in a carmine shade
- rough pink terry deytion - these are double flowers, painted in a pink shade, as the name suggests. The form is very resistant to severe frosts, and this is its undoubted advantage over all other forms.
- white-point action - has very small white dots that are located on the leaf plates and are more like freckles. At the same time, it looks very decorative, but inexperienced gardeners can confuse this manifestation with a disease, so you should study all the features of the forms and types of actions so as not to make mistakes and not try to "cure" your planting.
The action is great (lush action) is a hybrid plant that was not born by chance - it is the result of selection work and crossing of such actions as Vilmorena and rough action. The bush grows straight, its height reaches 2.5 meters, the leaves are elongated, egg-shaped. Terry flowers, very decorative, painted white, are part of rather large paniculate inflorescences, the length of which is also impressive - about ten centimeters. The flowering is very abundant, even though it is an undemanding plant, which can not always be looked after too vigilantly. The action begins to bloom in July, and the flowering duration is about three weeks. In fact, this species is considered one of the most decorative and attractive, therefore, bushes can very often be found in personal plots or flower beds, in decorative plantings, rockeries, rock gardens or landscape ideas.
Deytion stellate long-leaved - the height of the bush can be from one to two meters, there is noticeable pubescence on the surface of the shoots, the leaves are very long - about 12 centimeters, along the edge you can see small teeth. They are painted in a dark, very juicy green shade, but on the lower side the leaves have a slightly gray bloom. The diameter of the flowers is about 2.5 centimeters, they are purple in color, but in the buds they are more purple, bright. Flowering begins in mid-July and also lasts for 25 days. This species has one long-leaved variety called Veicha, whose flowers are darker in color, but still look very attractive.
Action Lemoine - This is another hybrid type of action, which appeared due to the crossing of graceful and small-flowered action. The height of the bush reaches two meters, flowering begins very early, and it looks very lush and abundant. The flowers are snow-white, about two centimeters in diameter. In this case, the flowers can be collected in very small inflorescences, the length of which reaches only ten centimeters. Flowering is long, the plant is resistant to temperature extremes, frost, which is its plus. There are several highly decorative varieties of this type of action:
- belle-de-nezh - the height of the bush reaches one and a half meters, the flowers are white in color, reach 2.5 centimeters in diameter
- dentia rough Mont Rose - the height of the bush is almost 2.5 meters, the flowers have a bright, very rich pink color, while the edges of the petals are slightly wrapped in such a way that the inner yellow anthers are very clearly visible
- pink pom pom - this variety is relatively new, the buds are carmine colors, and they are also very saturated, when opened, they get a bright pink hue, double, which makes them even more decorative. These flowers are part of very abundant and large hemispherical inflorescences, which is also an undoubted decorative advantage and advantage of this highly decorative variety.
In addition to the varieties we have described, there are several more varieties in culture, as well as species that have a huge number of advantages. Of course, the choice of a gardener here entirely depends on what he himself wants to achieve, what result is at stake, and for what purpose he is planting these crops. One thing is clear - actions today do not leave anyone indifferent, they are really very decorative and incredibly attractive plants that look great both in single and in group plantings. A sufficient amount of information about these plants can be found on the network, the most important thing is to understand how to care for them, how to distinguish species from each other, and also how to skillfully protect certain species from certain climatic conditions and manifestations.
