Blackcurrant Memory of Zhuchkov
Content:
Blackcurrant Pamyat Zhuchkov is a representative of plants with a mid-late period of fruit ripening. A subspecies appeared in the St. Petersburg GAU (LSHI), thanks to the works of the scientist-breeder E.I. Glebova, by pollination of the Altai Stakhanovka currant subspecies with a mixture of pollen of such varieties as Exhibition... For quite a few years, this subspecies was considered the leading industrial subspecies in the Leningrad Region.
Black currant Memory Zhuchkov - description and characteristics
The bush of this subspecies of black currant has an average growth rate, its height and circumference from 120 to 150 centimeters. Most often, this shrub is upright, and it also has a slight spreading. The shoots are not lignified, thin, have pubescence and the apical part of a purple color. Lignified shoots are of medium thickness, they are elongated and straight, with elongated internodes. They have a grayish-brown hue and pubescence, as well as dull, with a free apical bud. The buds are medium-sized and green in color, with a pink tint on the upper scales. The leaf scar has a wedge-shaped round or round shape.
The leaves of this bush are five-lobed. One such leaf is medium or small. It has a grayish-green color, a matte surface and a finely wrinkled structure, almost smooth. The middle lobe is longer and wider than the lateral lobes, with additional projections and a pointed apical part. The lateral lobes are short in length, pointed, their upper sides are on one straight line, or at an angle to the central vein, while the lower ones are almost vertical. Right angle between the median veins of the lateral lobes. The basal lobes are not clearly pronounced. At the base of the leaflet there is a small open-type recess. The denticles are pointed, very small. The petiole is not colored.
The fruits of this subspecies can reach a weight of 0.8 to 1.3 grams each. They are on elongated stalks, are of the same size and round in shape. The surface of the berry is covered with a thick black skin. The berries taste very good. When ripe, they do not have the peculiarity of crumbling and losing their commercial characteristics for more than three weeks. The brushes are elongated, containing an average of 712 berries. In its chemical composition, the fruits of this subspecies contain: dry soluble substances 20.8 percent, the amount of sugars 9.3 percent, free acids 3.6 percent, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) from 150 to 172 milligrams per 100 grams of product.
The subspecies considers its main distinguishing features: early maturity, self-fertility, the universal purpose of fruits, it is quite suitable for growing on an industrial scale, although after harvesting, mechanized, it can lose its hardiness to cold weather. It is also worth noting that this subspecies has a fairly high yield level, it can produce up to almost three kilograms per one shrub, and this plant also reproduces quite easily.
Advantages and disadvantages
Like any other subspecies of this culture, this variety has its positive and negative qualities. The advantages of the subspecies under consideration include: the middle late period of fruit ripening, able to escape frost in the spring, quite fruitful and self-fertile.
The main disadvantages of the subspecies are considered its instability to such a harmful and dangerous insect as a kidney mite, as well as low resistance to a common disease, powdery mildew.
