Voronina, E. Sokratova, A. Shapkhaeva, D. Markova. After the checks, the litter was registered on the official market and included in the state register of the Siberian region.
Black currant Gaikhal - description
The currant bush is large, rapidly growing, sprawling shoots, lying close to each other. The growing shoot is thick, straight, even, light green color, matte, with slight pubescence. Buds are medium in size, conical in shape, gray-purple in color, strongly deviated from the shoots.
The leaves have five lobes, they are large, green-yellow in color. The leaf plate on one side is fluffy, matte, uneven, and the other is smooth, wrinkled, with a shine. The surface of the leaf is wrinkled, folded, slightly depressed in the center along the main midrib. Quite strong notches are observed between the blades. The bases of the leaves are wide, with medium grooves. On the edge of the leaves there are teeth, they are short, medium-sized, sharp, in the autumn they can twist a little.
Small currant flowers, lavender color. A cluster of berries can reach up to 10 centimeters in length, the fruits are evenly distributed.
Black currant Gaikhal - characteristic
The fruits are quite large, reaching an average of 1.6 grams by weight. The peel is dense, shiny, even, the fruit is oval in shape. The berries have a dry separation, high resistance to transportation, therefore they are often used on sale. The stalks are medium in size, green in color.
The berries are sweet to taste, there is a pronounced aroma, tasters estimate it at 9.1 points. This variety belongs to varieties of universal use, so the berries can be eaten fresh, can be frozen, and can be processed into preparations: juices, jams, preserves.
The berries are filled with a large number of useful microelements: vitamin C 3%, pectin 0.5%, titratable acids 3%, natural sugars 12%, phenolic compounds 0.1%.
Pros and cons of the variety
Pros:

- 2. A high level of yield, on average 12 tons of fruits are harvested from one hectare.
- 3. Resistant to low temperatures. The bush can withstand temperatures up to -28 degrees.
- 4. Ability to self-pollination up to 80%. So that the bush bears more fruit, you can plant another variety of black currant next to it, which will serve as a pollinator neighbor. Both varieties must have the same flowering time.
- 5. Resistance to many diseases, pests. The bush is rarely affected by powdery mildew, white spot and spider mites.
