To have a lot of cucumbers, you need to prepare seeds
In order to increase the yield of cucumbers, it is necessary not only to properly care for them, but also to fertilize them. To have a lot of cucumbers, you need to consider the following:
Before planting seeds, they must be prepared.
1. We select seeds suitable for planting from empty ones. This is done as follows:
dip the seeds for 5 minutes in water at room temperature,
prepare a solution, take 1 liter of water and pour 3 grams of table salt into it, lower the seeds that were in our water.
We remove the seeds that have floated to the surface of the solution, we do not need them, nothing will grow out of them, and the seeds that remain at the bottom are suitable for sowing.
2. We carry out disinfection or disinfection of seeds as follows:
The seeds need to be placed in a place where the temperature will reach 60 degrees, and leave them there at that temperature for three hours
Next, you need to dip the heated seeds into a solution of potassium permanganate and boric acid for a quarter of an hour. We dilute potassium permanganate in 10 liters of water 1 g, and boric acid in a bucket of water 0.2 grams.
Then we take out all the seeds and rinse in plain water.
3. Irradiation of seeds with ultraviolet rays also works well. This will protect your fruits from various diseases. Irradiate the seeds for 5 minutes, then put in a black or dark bag and store until sowing.
4. Hardening. Soak a rag in plain water and wrap the seeds in it and leave it for a couple of days. When the seeds have hatched, then immediately remove them in a cold place, for example, in the refrigerator.
5. Fill the seeds with water and leave for about 24 hours. After this procedure, the seeds should hatch much faster. You can also soak in a special solution that is sold in stores and is called "Growth Stimulant"
Mulching cucumber seedlings
The big and simple secret of caring for cucumbers. Mulching and its advantages:
• Protects seedlings from temperature extremes
• Increases yields by about half
• Retains moisture
• Nourishes the seedlings
• Preserves the harvest better, spoilage of vegetables occurs less often
• Weeds do not grow in mulch soil
Mulch can be made from peat, rotten sawdust, synthetic film, or nonwoven fabric.
Do not mulch from freshly cut grass, it may rot
How to properly care for cucumbers
1. We carry out the first hilling when four leaves have already appeared. It is necessary to do this because the sprouts become stronger to the winds, the root system of cucumbers is improved and moisture in the ground is retained better. Re-hilling is carried out in two weeks.
2. Cucumbers should be watered with warm water, the approximate water temperature should be 24 degrees. If it's cold outside, then the water should be even warmer. Do not let water get on the leaves. To increase the yield, cucumbers are poured with milk, a glass of milk is added to a bucket of water.
3. Cucumbers that grow in greenhouses or greenhouses cannot be pollinated by bees, because it is difficult for them to get there, therefore, to increase the yield, pollinate the flowers with a soft brush, moving the pollen onto the female flowers from the male ones.
4. If you tie up cucumbers in time, the crop yield will increase.
5. The yield of cucumbers will increase if crops such as beans, cabbage, corn, lettuce or celery are planted next to them. Do not plant tomatoes nearby.
