Briefly about yoshta
Most people in their suburban or summer cottage have a bush that bears fruits in the form of berries. Usually these are: gooseberries, black currants, raspberries, red currants. Of course, there are other shrubs that bear berries, but scientists have already developed new varieties of plants through selection. The most interesting thing is that the most famous plants are the parents of selection berry bushes. These hybrids have a variety of appearances, tastes, aromas and characteristics. It should be noted that many of them have a high level of disease resistance and resistance to various parasites.
At least once in your life you have heard of yoshta, perhaps without even knowing that it is a berry, and not a flower or a tree. Few people know how to properly grow and care for it, what features and differences it has from other plants.
There are no bad berries, each berry is unique and has its own meaning. Black currants are loved for their great taste and useful properties, but the level of resistance to parasites and disease resistance is low. The specialists did not sit idly by, but worked on new and unique plants, which are no worse than the usual ones. The first decided to cross the gooseberry and black currant, the selection berry was named "yoshta". It contains only worthwhile properties, but it is far from the best.
For many years they tried to recreate the yoshta, but everything ended in failure. One time there were no fruits, the other - there were fruits, but not berries ... Thanks to new equipment and teamwork, the breeders in the seventies got the desired result. You can see that
bushes differ in appearance and fruit. All due to the fact that in many countries experts tried to apply their knowledge in practice and create a unique shrub.
The plant grows up to two meters, and sometimes taller, has a delicate taste, the leaves are round, branches (about fifteen to twenty pieces on one bush) without a single thorn, a long root (thirty to forty centimeters), nice appearance, for which it began to be widely used as an ornamental plant to decorate suburban and suburban areas.
During flowering, namely in the spring, yellow flowers bloom, and later become berries with a green color. Since this hybrid originated from a cross between gooseberries and black currants, it is logical that the taste resembles their berries. The fruits are large, you can match one cherry to one yoshta berry. The color of the berries when ripe is black or purple.
How to grow yoshta correctly?
For a large, and most importantly, tasty harvest, it is necessary to work on the correct planting and caring for the plant. It is recommended to plant on light loamy fertile soil. Yoshta is a thermophilic plant, so try to find a place in an area with good light and windy. It is better to plant yoshta in groups of several shrubs, as this increases the quantity and quality of the crop. We make the depth, width and length at the landing hole the same fifty centimeters each.
Yoshta is an unpretentious plant; a novice gardener or summer resident can also grow it.Do not forget about regular and abundant watering, but the water should be clean and warm. Especially a lot of water is required on warm days. We use mineral fertilizers as top dressing two or three times throughout the year. It is recommended to pour wood ash under the bush after winter.
Regular removal of branches of the yoshte is not necessary. However, no one said that it was necessary to leave the dried parts of the bush. The level of various parasites and diseases is high. It is possible to create a "live" fence from the bush. Since the shrub has appeared relatively recently, there are no new species or varieties.
How to properly plant and care for yoshta?
The plant should be planted in May or autumn. The distance of one yoshta from another should be about two hundred centimeters, this contributes to the quality of the crop. After some time, the yoshta will be more and more, if the plants are planted too close to each other, they can harm everyone. To make a "live" fence from a bush, you can make a distance of about fifty centimeters.
Prepare the site in advance for planting the plant. Weed, loosen and fertilize the soil. Use potash fertilizers. Remember the location should be loose earth and plenty of sunshine. Differences between blackcurrant and yoshta care are minimal. Everything that is different: the area of the site should be larger than that of black currant; yoshta requires more feeding; it is recommended to mulch the soil.
Mulch is good not only for yoshta, it improves soil level, resists weed grass, reduces the need for frequent loosening of the soil. Recommendations for composting: humus, small plants, compost, grape shoots.
The first three years are the most important in terms of feeding, on average it takes about six kilograms. Gradually, this amount should grow, at least twice.
Yoshta is able to reproduce in two ways: cuttings, seeds.
It is not easy to grow a shrub with seeds. We need a correct and careful selection of seeds, stratification for about two hundred days, adherence to the temperature norm, namely, not below zero and not above five degrees. And only in the fall the seeds are obtained and immediately used.
Most summer residents propagate yoshta by cuttings. This method is common thanks to other plant crops.
Thanks to the vitamins and useful microelements contained in yoshta, it strengthens and enhances the immune system, is used in the preparation of jam and wine. There are more vitamins in the fruits of this plant than in its parents.
Now you know that yoshta can not only serve as an ornamental plant in a suburban or summer cottage, but also useful and suitable for use in cooking and medicine.
