Dense black currant: photo of the variety
Blackcurrant Firm-bodied is a medium-sized compact, not very dense bush. Young plump shoots are light green, as they become lignified, their color changes to light grayish brown, but they retain their pubescence. Yellowish-green buds are large, oval, slightly pubescent. Five-lobed leaf plate of medium or large size, paid, with a smooth matte surface, no pubescence on it. As with other currant varieties, the central lobe is longer than the rest.
The flowers of the currant bush are Firm-bodied, medium-sized, the sepals are light pink, and the corolla petals are cream. Fruit cluster of medium size, five to six berries are densely located on it.
Rounded black berries are covered with a waxy coating, their skin is thin, the separation is dry (and this, in turn, ensures good transportability of the crop), the seeds are small and there are few of them. The average weight of berries is from 1.2 to 2 grams, they are very aromatic and have a pleasant sweet and sour taste.
The yield of the black currant variety Plotnokistnaya is 6.5-7.5 tons per hectare, this variety is suitable for mechanized harvesting.
Cooking use
Black currant is one of the most sought-after berries in the world. In addition to traditional compotes, juices, preserves and jams, you can make jelly, filling for pies and sweets, sauce from it. Various parts of the plant (berries, shoots, leaves) are used to prepare alcoholic beverages and various tea compositions. Also, currant leaves are invariably used for pickles and marinades in home preservation.
When starting to prepare, do not forget that during heat treatment the currant loses some of its useful properties, therefore it is recommended to either freeze the berries or dry them in a natural way - this is how all the vitamins that black currants are so rich in are preserved.
Dense black currant: reviews of gardeners
Reviews of Blackcurrant Densely are mostly positive. Gardeners note the following advantages:
- Self-fertility.
- Good and stable yields.
- Transportability.
- High winter hardiness, which is especially important when growing a plant in the harsh climate of Siberia.
- Resistance to the main pest of currants - kidney mites, as well as to most fungal diseases.
However, there are some gardeners who note negative points in reviews of the dense currant variety. Among the disadvantages of this variety, only the high demands on the quality of the soil are noted. Dense currants need fertile soil (ideally, it should be light fertile loamy or sandy loam soil), so you will need to regularly feed to get a good harvest. It is also important to choose the right place for planting the plant, since when the bushes of this variety are placed on the northern slopes, the bush forms poorly and grows slowly, which undoubtedly affects the quality and quantity of the crop. It is recommended to plant the currant of the variety Plotnokistnaya in a sunny place, although light partial shade is also allowed.
