Cherry Romance

Sweet cherry Romance obtained thanks to N. Ya. Turovtsev and MT Oratovsky at the Institute of Horticulture UAAS. To obtain a new variety by crossing, the following materials were used: hybrid form 1086 (Wilhelmina variety + Franz cherry variety) + a mixture of seedling and pollen (1793 (French black seedling through free pollination) + Melitopol black cherry pollen and Bigarro Oratovsky variety)). Since 2000, the newly introduced variety Romance has been included in the lists of the State Register in the territory of the North Caucasus region.
Sweet cherry Romance - description and characteristics
The tree is strong enough to form a crown in the form of a ball. The shoot grows upright and is colored brown. The leaf plates are slightly elongated, along the edge of the leaf there is a framing of a serrate-crenate structure. The color of the leaves is predominantly dark green with a slight matte sheen. In the process of fruiting, annual growths and bouquet branches are directly involved.
The variety is distinguished by rather large fruit sizes, almost 8.6 grams, which surpasses a lot of relatives. Development and maturation occur simultaneously. The berry is formed in a wide-round shape, in some cases the formation occurs in a heart-shaped type. Such a varied formation is a consequence of the fact that a fairly extensive amount of working material, several varieties, took part in obtaining the variety. The peduncle is of medium size, has excellent separation from the branch. The skin is of medium density, but strong enough not to burst under adverse conditions. The color of the berry is from dark red to almost shiny black.
The pulp of the fruit is of the same red, almost black tone, very juicy in taste. When consumed fresh, slight gristle is felt. Taste, organically sweet and sour, is rated at 4.8 on the rating scale. The juice of the berry does not differ in color, it is exactly the same dark red tint.
Considering the chemical composition of the berry, we see the following indicators:
- - dry matter content up to 18.89%;
- -sugar are present in an amount of 12.88%;
- -total 0.57% is occupied by organic acids;
- -10.56 mg for every 100 grams of the product is occupied by ascorbic acid.
The seed in the berry is smallish in size, the formation takes place in a rounded shape, the separation from the pulp is quite free, which facilitates the processing.
The purpose of the variety is very attractive for many gardeners, it is simply universal, that is, it can be used fresh, and in culinary masterpieces, and when preparing preserves, compotes, jams, and so on.
The yield of sweet cherry Romance is quite excellent. For example, with industrial cultivation, it is possible to harvest up to 130 centners of the crop from each hectare. Above average resistance of trees of this variety to cold winter. Increased drought tolerance. Immunity to such a disease as coccomycosis is well developed.
Advantages and disadvantages
A little about the advantages of the variety:
- -the yield is at a height, all indicators correspond to the figures declared by the authors when creating the variety;
- - resistance to cold weather, prolonged drought and major diseases meets the standards.
The disadvantages include reduced rates of early maturity.
