Cherry Iput
Content:
Sweet cherry Iput has been successfully cultivated for a long time in domestic garden plots. This culture was purposefully bred for the climatic conditions of the Russian center. The variety is resistant to frost, has partial self-fertility, which makes it easier to care for the plant.
The sum of all these characteristics and, in addition, a good indicator of yield, made it possible to successfully spread and cultivate the sweet cherries of the Iput variety.
A brief excursion into history
The culture comes from the village of Michurinsky (Bryansk region). The All-Russian Research Institute of Lupin, located in the village in the eighties of the twentieth century (at the moment, it is a branch of the V.R. berry crops.
The result of these developments is more than sixty-five cherry, cherry, currant (black), raspberry and apple varieties. One of them is the sweet cherry variety Iput, named after the name of the river that flows through the territory of the Bryansk region. Authors: M. V. Kanshina, A. A. Astakhov. Since 1993, the culture has been listed in the state register.
Cherry Iput: description and characteristics of the variety
Cherry Iput: photo of the variety
The Iput cherry variety is represented by a tree of medium height, the width of the Iput cherry crown surprises with its volume. Fruiting begins, as a rule, from the fourth to fifth year of development. The yield indicator is average. The crop is cultivated in most regions. Iput cherries ripen early.
Features of culture.
Cherry variety Iput is a tree-shaped stone fruit crop. The height of an adult Iput cherry tree reaches three and a half meters, there are also such cherries that grow up to four and a half to five meters. The bark is reddish brown. Cherry crown Iput wide, in the form of a pyramid. The leaves are dark green in color, matte, in the form of an egg. The plate bends slightly, the surface is not pubescent. The leaf is eight cm long and up to five cm wide. The tree is lush, strong leafy. The fruits are large, dark red, almost black in color. On average, the fruit weighs five to nine grams. The inner content of the berries is red, juicy. Sweet taste, slightly bitter aftertaste. Cherry pits Iput are small in size, difficult to separate from the pulp. The variety is universal in purpose. Fruits are transported moderately, berries that crack are poorly transported.
Cherry Iput: frost resistance
Frost resistance of Iput cherries is one of the main advantages of this variety. Quite calmly, the Iput cherry can withstand frosty temperature conditions up to minus thirty degrees. Thaws, and then sharp negative temperatures, pose a great danger to trees. After positive temperature conditions, a cold snap even to minus twenty degrees can almost certainly destroy the cherries.
Drought tolerance good. Even with a strong dry period, watering is advisable to be carried out no more than once every seven days. An excess amount of water will first affect the fruits, they will begin to crack.
Cherry pollinators Iput
The flowering period depends on the cultivation area. In middle latitudes, this falls on the equator of the month of May, in the south the time is earlier. The flowering is very beautiful, the clusters are plump, white in color.
The cherry variety Iput is called self-pollinated in part. But still, the number of self-pollinated flowers is quite small (usually no more than five to seven percent is self-pollinated). In this regard, in order to obtain a good yield, it is required to plant near the variety for pollination. The best pollinators for Iput cherries: "Revna", «Tyutchevka"," Ovstuzhenka ". The ripening period of the Iput cherries ends by the last days of June.
Yield indicator, fruiting.
Regularly, the Iput cherry tree begins to bear fruit at the 5th year of development (rarely at 4). The annual yield, the average figure reaches thirty kilos from one sweet cherry. But, if you properly look after and observe agrotechnical rules, the yield indicator can double.
Where the fruits are used.
The universal purpose of the variety allows the use of berries both fresh and for processing. Delicious compotes, preserves, jam are prepared from cherries. Compared to all cherry varieties, the culture we are considering contains the most vitamin C, and therefore the fruits are both tasty and healthy.
Immunity to diseases and harmful insects.
The variety has good immune protection against harmful insects and diseases. Often, sweet cherries are affected by fungal infections at high moisture content or, if the Iput cherry tree is cut incorrectly. Of the harmful insects, aphids are the most dangerous.

Cherry Iput: planting varieties
Cherry Iput: video, how to plant a variety?
When planting this variety in your garden, immediately take care of pollination helpers, otherwise there may not be a yield. Cherry seedlings Iput are almost constantly planted in a group (the exception is that you can not plant in a group if a cherry tree also grows close to the fence next door).
Optimal planting time.
Planting time is highly dependent on the cultivation area. In the southern regions, in climates with a mild winter season, planting can be carried out in the spring and autumn seasons. Moreover, planting in the fall is preferable, since a tree planted in the spring season will always suffer from a lack of liquid and from sunburn. It is forbidden to plant more to the north in autumn. Cherry seedling Iput does not adapt and may die.
A prerequisite for planting a variety is that the planting material must be dormant. In the spring season - this is before the sap flow begins and the buds begin to swell, in the autumn season - after the foliage has fallen off.
How to choose a site for planting.
In order for the Iput cherry tree to grow well and bring generous yields, the area for growing the variety must meet the conditions below.
- Other trees should not grow between the plants, otherwise they will interfere with pollination.
- The site should be sunlit and protected from harsh winds.
- The soil should be light, fertile, sandy loam or loam, with a neutral level of acidity.
- Groundwater should not exceed two meters.
- The site should not be located in a low-lying area or where there may be stagnant liquid.
- The best sites for the variety are in the south of the hills.
What plants are allowed and prohibited to plant near the Iput cherry.
The cultivar is not considered a very aggressive crop like walnut, for example. But still, do not plant an apple, pear or plum tree next to a cherry tree. It is recommended to plant another cherry tree nearby (for pollination use) or cherry tree. The grape culture feels good next to the cherry variety. Often a black elderberry is planted nearby, it will become an excellent protection of the tree from aphids.
Surprisingly, flower crops grow well under the cherry tree: daffodil, tulip, primrose. But in the root zone, it is better not to plant tomatoes or potatoes.
How to choose and prepare material for planting.
For planting, it is recommended to use planting material two years old. The trunk should be at least fifteen mm in diameter, there should be at least three branches, reaching a length of thirty cm. The root system should be well developed. The root at the cut site is clean, not rotten, cream-colored. The bark is smooth, intact, without any new formations.
Note the difference in rootstock and scion thickness. It is easy to see it on the grafted cherry seedlings of Iput.
Cherry Iput: how to plant?
Plants are planted at intervals of three meters from each other. Pits for planting are prepared in advance, for example, for planting in the spring, they are prepared in the autumn season. The size of the hole should be meter by meter and at least eighty cm deep. The pulled out soil is preserved, from which the soil mixture will be prepared in the future. For this purpose, the soil is mixed with three buckets of humus and superphosphate (0.25 kilos) is added.
Before planting, the planting material is examined again, if necessary, damaged roots are cut off. A little to the side from the middle of the hole, a peg is driven in, which serves as a support for a young tree in the early days. A hill of earth is poured at the bottom of the hole, a plant is placed on it so that the root collar is at the same height with the ground. After that, the roots are gradually covered with soil mixture, it is compacted so that voids do not form.
A roller of soil is poured around the circumference of the plant, it will serve to prevent the water from spreading. The planted cherries are tied to a support, three to four buckets of water are brought in. Next, the trunk circle is mulched with straw or sawdust.
Cherry Iput: leaving
Cherry pruning Iput
To obtain a good yield, the correct formation of the crown of the future tree is required. For this purpose, a formative pruning is used, the crown of the Iput cherry tree is pruned into many tiers.
- The first time the Iput cherries are cut for the second spring season after planting. Form 1 tier of three to four main branches, which are at a distance of fifty to sixty cm from the soil. All other shoots are cut ½ or 100% cut.
- The next spring, tier 2 is laid, leaving two branches with an interval of fifty cm from the first tier. The remaining branches are cut.
- The next year, one branch remains above the 2nd tier, and the main trunk of the Iput cherry tree must be pruned
- In subsequent years, all shoots of each year are shortened by ½.
In addition to the formative one, it is required to carry out sanitary pruning of Iput cherries every year, cut out diseased, dried or broken shoots. In addition, branches are pruned that grow incorrectly and thicken the crown.
Watering and feeding Iput cherries
The variety loves moisture, but too much moisture can kill it. For this reason, watering is necessary only in drought.
It is required to feed the Iput cherry tree all season. In the spring season, top dressing is applied three times. Before the cherry blossoms, ammonium nitrate (twenty grams per square) is introduced into the trunk circle. When a tree is flowering, urea is added (twenty grams dissolves in ten liters of water). When the flowering is over, the root zone is fertilized with a solution of chicken manure (one and a half to two liters of concentrated solution per bucket of water).
In the summertime, cherries are sprayed with a solution of potassium monophosphate or nitrophoska. In the autumn season, organic substances are used, humus is introduced into the trunk circle.
Every year, plants are fed up to seven years old. In the future, cherries are fed once every three years.
Preparing for winter Cherries Iput
It is not required to cover the cherry variety Iput for the winter. But still, some gardeners in areas with cool temperatures build shelters for young cherries, using specialized covering material.
The trunks of adult cherries are whitewashed to prevent sunburn and harm by enemies who hibernate in the folds of the tree bark.
Diseases and harmful insects
Cherry Iput: tree photo
The incidence of the variety is a rather rare occurrence. Often the appearance of diseases occurs due to excess moisture or illiterate agricultural technology.
- Rust... Symptoms: specks of brown color appear on the leaves, diseased leaves die and fly around. Preventive measures and control: Treat the tree with Hom before it starts to bloom. After harvesting the fruits, re-treat with a 1% solution of Bordeaux mixture. Infected branches are cut and burned.
- Clasterosporium disease (perforated spot). Symptoms: specks of brown color appear on the leaves, holes are formed in the areas of their origin. The shape of the berries is changing. Preventive measures and control: three times during the season (before the flowering period, after flowering and after two weeks) trees are treated with a solution of a product containing copper or a 1% solution of a Bordeaux mixture. Infected leaves break off and burn.
- Coccomycosis. Symptoms: specks of purple color on the leaves, later they dry out and fly around. Preventive measures and control: after the cherry has faded and after harvest, the tree is treated with a 1% solution of Bordeaux mixture or copper oxychloride.
Cherry Iput possesses immune protection against coccomycosis, but if there are other cherry or cherry varieties on the garden plot, the risk of infection is several times higher.
Of the harmful insects, the most dangerous for the variety are cherry weevils and cherry aphids. The fight against them is carried out with the help of various insecticidal preparations ("Decis", "B-58") or folk solutions (soap, tobacco, celandine, wormwood).
The treatment with poisons is stopped 1.5 months before harvesting the fruits.
Summary
Cherry Iput: tree photo
The sweet cherry variety Iput has been grown for a long time and quite justifiably in most Russian territories, like other plants for the garden. But many gardeners say that the variety lacks something of its own, for which I would like to plant it again. In general, to each his own. Therefore, it is up to the gardener to decide whether or not to plant this cherry or to plant another variety. And the variety we are considering is truly a good option.
