Cherry Gift of Abundance

This article will discuss the sweet cherry Gift of abundance. The selection of this variety took place on the territory of the zonal research institute of the North Caucasus in the city of Krasnodar. To obtain a new variety, a crossing of two varieties of sweet cherry was used:Melitopol black and black French, they began state tests in 2001, in the North Caucasus region. The rights of the original authorship were shared by T.G. Prichko and E.M. Alekhina.

Trees are characterized by very fast growth rates, which, in turn, are above average. The density of the crown is of medium size, the formation is in the form of a ball, a little spreading, a fairly good foliage cover. Annual shoots are colored with a silvery tone.

Each kidney is of medium size. Vegetative-formed in the form of a cone, generative buds have an oval shape. Unnaturally large leaf plates, almost 20 cm x 10.5 cm, oval formation, dark green color, slight pointed apices, notched shape of the base, leaf framing is formed by double-barbed serration, even cover of the leaf plate, matte color, slight pubescence along the lower part of the leaf. The length and width of the petiole is of medium size, green in color with the presence of anthocyanin, 2 glands each, most often located on the petioles, however, one can also find an arrangement at the base of the leaf plates.

Smallish flowers form inflorescences in the amount of 2-3 pieces, large in size, saucer-shaped corolla, white petals, wide-oval shape, are located in a fairly free form. Elongated stamens, medium-sized pistil, cup-shaped calyx formation, lack of serration in sepals. Fruiting mainly involves bouquet twigs and the bases of the growth shoot of the last season.

The fruit has an average size with a mass of 6.5 grams, the maximum berry weight reaches 7.5 grams, rounded forms of fruit formation, the average width and height of the funnel, a slight roundness of the top of the berry, is slightly pressed inward. Dark red integumentary color, the pulp is colored in exactly the same tone, excellent juiciness of the pulp, the density of the average, the same type of dark red fruit juice. Elongated peduncle with medium thickness. The separation of the stalk from the fruit is dry enough, but a little effort will be required. Oval bone formation, excellent separation from the pulp. If the quality of the fruit, the external presentation, is considered on a rating scale, then this is 4.7 points. The berry taste score is 4.6 points. The chemical composition of the fruits: dry matter is 14.9%, sugar content 13.3%, acid in the berry in the amount of 0.64%, ascorbic acid composition is 9.7 mg for every 100 grams of product.

This variety was predeterminedly attributed to the group of late flowering crops, medium late terms for the ripening of the crop. Only in the fifth year, from direct planting to a permanent place of growth, the tree fully bears fruit, belongs to the self-fruitless varieties of sweet cherry. Excellent indicators of resistance to severe cold and late spring frosts. Significant indicators of freezing can be observed only during periods of abnormal cold snap, which is an exceptional phenomenon if the variety is selected correctly in relation to the climatic conditions of residence. Excellent immunity to the most basic diseases of sweet cherry, exactly the disease of fungal origin.

Excellent increased productivity of the variety. If we consider industrial cultivation, then these are the following indicators: up to 130 tons of berries can be harvested from each hectare. The purpose of the fruit is quite universal. Fruits are perfect for obtaining products of technological processing, of high quality.
