Cherry Dagestanka

Sweet cherry Dagestanka was bred on the basis of the Dagestan experimental station by hybridizing the varieties "April Black" and "Drogana yellow". The author is A.S. Pokrovskaya. This cherry has been listed in the state register since 1947, zoned in the North Caucasus.

The tree of the Dagestanka cherry variety is of medium height, reaches a height of four and a half to five meters, the crown is rounded, spreading, the foliage is dense. Shoots one year old are of medium thickness, natural greenish coloration. Generative and vegetative buds are medium in size, located at an angle to the branch. Generative buds are long, rounded, in the form of an egg, vegetative buds are long, sharp, in the form of a cone. The leaves are large enough, long, sharp, oblong apex, rounded base. The size of the leaf is 14.8-7.2 cm. The color is bright green. The top and bottom of the leaf plate are smooth. The leaf is slightly curved. At the base of the leaf plate, on the petiole, there are 2 large glands of red color. The petiole is medium in length, reaching eighteen to twenty mm, medium in thickness (0.3 mm), reddish-burgundy in color. The flowers are of medium size, the petals are rounded, white in color, medium concave. The inflorescence is umbellate, contains three to five flowers. The corolla is rounded, the petals are opposite. The surface of the stigma of the pistil and anthers is presented in the form of a ball, the pistil rises above it (the stamens grow up to five to six mm, the pistil - up to seven to eight). Calyx in the form of a ball, the edges of the sepals are smooth. The variety blooms and bears fruit at the base of annual shoots and on bouquet branches.

The fruits of the Dagestanka cherry are blunt, heart-shaped, have slightly noticeable shoulders (twenty-one by twenty-three by twenty mm) and a barely visible abdominal suture. The funnel is deep, slightly elongated in the opposite direction relative to the ventral suture. The berry weighs 6.4-6.8 grams, dark red in color. The inner content of the fruit is tender, juicy, red in color, streaks of light pink color. The color of the juice is red. Taste is sweet, slightly sour. The tasting score is 4.9 points. Fruits contain: dry matter (11.9%), sugar (7.26%), acid (0.67%), ascorbic acid (7.67 mg per hundred grams). The fruits are transported moderately. The appearance of the berries is decorative, the taste is excellent, the variety is dessert.

Sweet cherry Dagestanka breaks off from the fruit leg easily, this allows harvesting with machines. Cherry cracks in dampness medium (12.3%). The fruit stem is medium in length, grows up to forty-one mm, and is 0.2 mm in thickness. The stone is rounded, there are barely noticeable grooves, oblong, the apex bends slightly inward, the base is pointed, the surface is smooth. The kernel weighs 0.4 grams, thus occupying sixty-two percent of the berry weight. The abdominal suture is medium in width. The stone is easily separated from the pulp.

The fruits of the sweet cherry variety Dagestanka ripen early or medium, the tree blooms on April 20-29, the berries ripen from June 1 to 12. Cherry Dagestanka is distinguished by partial self-fertility. Cherry begins to bear fruit from the fourth or fifth year after planting in a garden plot. Ripening of berries is simultaneous. The yield indicator reaches twenty-one kilos per sweet cherry or seven tons per hectare.
