How to feed the grapes?
Content:
To get high yields, you need to take into account a large number of factors when caring for a plant. One of the main factors in caring for grapes is feeding. You will learn how to feed grapes from our article.
This measure can significantly increase the quantity of the crop, the quality of fruits and bunches. If fertilizers are applied regularly and at the right time, then caring for the crop will be very simple and interesting. At different times of the year and ripening periods, grapes are fertilized with several options.
How to feed grapes in the spring?
Important: Grapes absorb organic fertilizers best. Namely: bird droppings, wood ash, mullein, humus. But if organic fertilizers are not at hand, you can buy mineral fertilizers in a specialized store. In spring, absolutely all crops are fed with nitrogen-based fertilizers. It is the main and first fertilizer, which should be in large quantities. But you shouldn't exclude other elements. Using only nitrogenous fertilizers will not give any result.
Feeding stages:
- In early March, after the snow melted, when the young grapes began to actively grow, half a bucket of chicken droppings should be added under the bushes. It does not need to be diluted with water. But it is best to make a groove in the root zone. And pour the droppings into the well.
- A large amount of water must be poured into the furrow. 5 buckets per shrub. Wait until the liquid is absorbed. And sprinkle with soil on top.
- Grapes that are more than 4 years old need to be fed more abundantly. A soil mixture is produced in March. Poultry droppings - half a bucket, mullein - 1 bucket, wood ash - 1 bucket. The ingredients are mixed, 4 liters of water are poured. Insist the mixture for 7 days.
- After the mixture has been infused for a week, you need to pour 12 liters of liquid into it.
- Sprinkle the plants with fertilizer. For 1 bush, you need to use two buckets of the mixture.
- Ash can also be used as a top dressing. It is mixed with water in a 1: 2 ratio. Insist for about three days.
- The mixture is mixed with liquid in a ratio of 1: 3. And irrigate the plant with 1 liter of infused mixture. This fertilizer is able to protect grapes from disease and fungus.
If the gardener prefers mineral fertilizers, then you need to know in advance which ones are best to use.
Algorithm for the use of fertilizers from minerals
- We make a soil mixture from dry potassium - 30 g, superphosphate - 40 g, nitrogen - 40 g. The dry soil mixture is poured into the furrow near the shrub. And it is filled with two buckets of water. But with a high level of soil moisture or after snow has passed, watering is not necessary. The poured mixture is sprinkled with soil from above.
- In the last month of spring, the plant is fed with potassium nitrate - 30 g, nitrogen - 40 g, superphosphate - 50 g. In May, the plant must have a lot of foliage for flowering and fruit formation to be successful. For this, the grapes need outside help.
- You can also replace this soil mixture with the following fertilizers: "Biopon", "Master", "Florovin". Apply them according to the instructions.
- Before flowering on the bush, you need to feed the plant from the outside. Foliar feeding is carried out by creating a mixture of superphosphate - 20 grams, nitrogen - 30 grams, sugar - no more than 50 grams. And the ingredients are poured with 10 liters of liquid. Sugar is used so that the fertilizer does not evaporate so quickly from the plant.
- If in May the plant already has pea fruits, then fertilizing with mineral fertilizers can be added. You need to dilute 30 g of the complex in 1 bucket of water. The vineyard is fed up to 4 times in the spring. After removing the covering material in April, when the process of sap flow begins, which is characterized by swelling of the kidneys, the first feeding is carried out.
14 days before the flowers appear on the bush, feeding is carried out for the second time. This usually happens on May days.
The last time fertilizing complexes are applied 7 days before the appearance of grape fruits, which resemble peas in shape. But this process usually occurs at the beginning of the summer season, and not in the spring.
Top dressing in summer
Early ripening varieties in the summer already give their first harvest. But mid-ripening or late-ripening are characterized by the process of fruit formation.
This moment is quite tense for the vineyard. Since in different climatic conditions, the summer seasons are usually different. In some places it rains more often, somewhere dry weather. Diseases and pests can prevent the vineyard from growing favorably.
How to feed grapes to increase fertility?
- Mix ammonia nitrate - 20 g, "Kalimagnesia" - 10 g and water - 10 liters. Sprinkle the bush with the mixture.
- Making fertilizer using wood ash. Ash is taken the same as used for feeding in the spring. 7 days before the bunches ripen, you need to feed the plant to improve its taste.
- Making a soil mixture from superphosphate - 20 g, fertilizing material from potassium - 20 g. Dissolve the ingredients in 10 liters of liquid. After complete dissolution, irrigate the vineyard root system with the solution.
- For external feeding, potassium sulfate is used - 50 g, superphosphate - 100 g. Mix them with 10 liters of liquid, which has settled in the open sun. Foliar dressing should be carried out until the formation of ovaries and the formation of fruit-peas.
Important: Grapes that were planted no more than two years ago do not need feeding. Since, when planting it, the gardener uses soil that is well saturated with fertilizers.
But feeding for 2-3-year-old grapes is necessary. And they are an obligatory ritual of plant care.
In the summer, the shrubs are fed twice. The first is carried out 7 days before the formation of ovaries. The second, as a rule, 7 days before the berries ripen completely.
How to feed grapes in autumn?
In autumn, as a rule, almost all plant varieties bear fruit. If you do not prepare in advance for feeding the vineyard, you can significantly reduce the number of berries. And also the complete destruction of the plant is possible. In the autumn, the bush is not fertilized. And if they do it, then only after harvesting the fruits.
At this moment, the fruits are formed, filled with juice. And the introduction of organic matter can spoil the yield, the taste of berries. As well as appearance and quality.
Experienced gardeners recommend feeding the vineyard in autumn every 4 years. This measure ensures the saturation of the soil with useful substances. The plant will then absorb them from the soil. Fertilized, as a rule, in September. Until the berries are fully ripe (it takes about a month). Or after collecting the last fruits.
It is important to carry out root feeding of the shrub. Only the mixture for irrigation of the area outside the root is made weaker. It is in this ratio that it is quickly absorbed.
To enrich the soil in the fall, you need to use:
- potassium salts - 10 g;
- superphosphate - 20 g.
You can also add a few drops of iodine, zinc sulfate, manganese to the mixture. Or any other substance that the soil lacks.
They also make this mixture:
- potassium sulfate - 25 g;
- superphosphate - 25 g.
Substances are used per 1 sq. m of soil. A furrow is dug around the bush in advance and the substances are poured in a dry form.
Feeding grapes after harvesting
After the berries have been harvested, the plant needs rest.To gain and recuperate. What is required of a gardener to help a shrub prepare for the winter cold? The main thing that is needed is proper care and feeding.
What and how the bushes are fed
To strengthen the strength of the grapes, you need to mulch around the root zone. This process will not take long. But it will help the plant as much as possible. Liquid top dressing is not applied in October so that the root system of the bush does not freeze. In the second autumn month, the grapes usually bear fruit.
Mulching is an effective way. He is able to help the plant recover as quickly as possible before the winter period. Mulch options include compost, peat, and humus.
How to feed the grapes? Tips from experienced gardeners
Any gardener needs to know how to feed grapes so that they grow and bear fruit well. Professional gardeners who know how to help inexperienced beginners share their secrets.
Root feeding is done not at the root, but at the trench. It should be dug out in the form of a circle. Namely: 1 meter in girth, no more than 0.5 meters deep. Accuracy is essential in this matter. Because if the measures are not followed, the root system or the vine can be ruined. Ash is a popular grape fertilizer.
Ash composition:
- K (potassium) - 20%;
- Ca (calcium) - 40%;
- Mg (magnesium) - 10%;
- P (phosphorus) and other elements - 30%.
Wood ash should be applied, as a rule, 2-3 times. Namely: in autumn, spring and summer.
Important: In one season, no more than 1 bucket of fertilizer is applied. Organic and mineral fertilizers are not mixed. They are brought in one by one for feeding. It is not recommended to pour nitrogen dry onto the ground. Because it reacts quickly with oxygen and evaporates. It must be used for irrigation. Or embed it in the ground.
Of the minerals, as a rule, they use:
- Ammonia nitrate;
- Aquarin;
- Superphosphate;
- Novofert;
- Potassium salt and others.
If there is no fertilizer from this list in the store, you can purchase any with a similar composition.
Attention: Vineyards do not accept chloride fertilizers. Before buying a fertilizer, you need to read the composition. And make sure that the substance is absent in the complex. Or its quantity is insignificant.
Nitrogen fertilizers should weaken before the autumn period. Because the bush will start up more and more new shoots. And to enter the phase of active rest, instead of the formation of fruits.
You need to feed the grapes in dry weather without wind. There are constant discussions among experienced gardeners about when to choose the time for the third feeding. The first opinion is that you need to fertilize 7 days before the onset of ovaries. The second opinion is at the time of the appearance of the fruit-peas.
Two opinions are indisputably correct. Because a gardener who constantly fertilizes according to the rules does not have to worry that he will do something wrong.
