Buddleya - how to properly plant and care for a plant
Content:
Buddleya is an ornamental shrub that grows more often in tropical and southern countries. The most common type of buddley is the buddley of David. Buddleya is very reminiscent of all of us beloved lilac, flowers have different shades and a delicate honey aroma, which surprisingly attracts bees and butterflies. A dry place is ideal for this shrub, which is very well lit and where there is no strong wind.
Planting buddley
Planting buddleya should start by planting cuttings or seeds in a pot or other container. This can be done around mid-February. You can plant the plant in April or May, this is the time when the soil can already warm up well and there will be no danger of frost return.
It is recommended to plant in open ground directly with the planting tank. The thing is that the buddlea has a delicate and fragile root system, and in order not to harm it, it is better to do just that. For the winter period, until the plant is 3 years old, it is better to clean it in a cool place. You should not leave a young plant in the open field. For better plant growth and development, loose and nutritious soil is best. It is good to use mineral fertilizers, wood ash and compost as top dressing.
Watering this plant should only be done with warm water. Do not overflow. To prevent stagnation of water, after watering the plant, the soil should be loosened. When you plant the plant in open ground, it is recommended to cut its branches by about half. This type of pruning will provoke the emergence of new shoots. The better you prune, the more new and strong shoots will appear in the old place. This procedure is good at provoking the growth and development of the buddleya.
Budley care
Due to the fact that buddleya is a tropical plant, it cannot withstand low temperatures either. If you leave it in the open field, then you definitely need to cover it for the winter, otherwise the very top of the plant will simply freeze. The container in which the buddleya grows can also be covered with some kind of covering material or polyethylene can be used. Also, an important point is that as soon as you find young buds, then even then you can feed the plant using nitrogen fertilizer.
Closer to the moment when the plant begins to bloom, it will be necessary to add phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. Also, this plant will not refuse organic fertilizers. In the summer, you can add humus, wood ash or manure to it.
Buddley of David
We talked about the fact that David's buddley is one of the most popular types of buddlyas. This species is very fond of warmth. Flowering begins only 3 years after the first planting. The flowers of David's buddley can be completely different colors: white, pink, purple, red, lilac. It begins to bloom in July and until the end of September. She requires care exactly the same as all buddleys: more sun, watering and shelter from the wind.
Buddleya - cultivation
Buddleya can propagate both by seed and cuttings. But nevertheless, the rooting of the apical shoots is very popular. When active development begins (after the winter months, around June), it is necessary to cut off the young shoot by 15 cm.If you remove the leaves from such a shoot, which are at the bottom, and simply plant it obliquely into the soil at a shallow depth, then you will get a new one. plant ready for development. If you prefer seeds, you can sprinkle them on top of the soil (around March) in the container chosen for planting.
Moisten the soil by spraying. Watch out for watering, change temperatures, keep away from the wind. Also, make sure that the seedlings are not exposed to direct sunlight. Young plants can be planted only when the danger of frost has passed (approximately April-May).
