Boric acid for peppers
Content:
Boric acid is a component that is best known to everyone as an antiseptic and also as an insecticide. But not every gardener is aware that boric acid is also an excellent fungicidal agent and fertilizer, which in many regions is widely used precisely in gardening activities. In this article, we will dwell in more detail on the benefits and harms of boron, what boric acid is needed for peppers, and how to properly prepare boric acid at home in order to process a backyard.
Boric acid for peppers: benefit and disadvantage
Most gardeners and gardeners use boric acid to process peppers, since such an additive can give excellent results. Boron acts as one of the essential basic trace elements that a plant needs at any stage of its development, in particular during the period of active vegetation. Thanks to boric acid in horticulture, you can achieve some significant results:
- seeds that were treated with boric acid before planting can later give more friendly shoots, and this is a huge plus
- the growth of plants is stimulated, it is noticeably accelerated than if the plant would have been treated with other components or would have been left without additional feeding
- improves the synthesis of oxygen and nitrogen components, as well as other minerals that play a significant role in the growth and development of the plant
- the level of productivity increases
- peppers are not subject to infection by fungal pests and diseases, since boric acid for peppers is an excellent antiseptic
Thanks to boric acid, the appearance of inflorescences and the process of flowering of peppers is activated in peppers. As a result, more abundant fruiting, seedlings that were not adapted to a particular territory or temperature, thanks to boric acid, adapt more successfully. The quality of the crop becomes an order of magnitude lower, the fruits themselves are stored longer than usual, they can also be transported over various distances, which is also an undoubted advantage. The remedy is extremely useful for the formed ovaries, since the ovary is preserved, the number of possible barren flowers is reduced. If suddenly the plant is affected by any disease (for example, late blight), then after spraying with a solution containing boric acid, there is a chance that even such fruits can be eaten, since they will not affect human health in any way. We can also safely say that boric acid for nightshade, tomato and eggplant crops is a necessary tool that allows you to improve fruiting, the condition of the plant, strengthens its upper deciduous-stem and lower part, as a result of which the bush becomes stronger and more attractive even by external parameters.
Of course, when using boric acid for peppers, it should be borne in mind that the plant can give signs on its own that it lacks certain substances and components. Signs of a boron deficiency in plants are as follows:
- leaves slow down their growth, gradually deform, have a rather painful appearance
- new shoots stop growing, and the upper ones gradually lose their vitality and die off
- leaves or emerging ovaries begin to actively fall off, and new ones generally refuse to form, which also negatively affects the state of the plant
- fruits, even if they do not fall off, develop incorrectly, which leads to the death of the entire plant as a whole.
Boric acid for peppers: instructions for preparing a solution
Gardeners use boric acid for peppers either in dissolved form or in powder form. When preparing the solution, it is necessary to be very careful to ensure that the acid crystals are completely dissolved in water and do not form precipitates. To do this, a small part of the powder must first be diluted in a small amount of hot water, and only then, constantly stirring, add cold water until the required concentration of the solution is reached. The plant should be processed only when the solution has cooled to a comfortable room temperature.
Any gardeners, both experienced and those who are just starting their horticultural path, are interested in whether it is possible to combine boric acid with any other substances, additives or preparations. The answer to this question is always positive: you can use boric acid and potassium permanganate together, as well as add glucose, tar or laundry soap. For the prevention of some common diseases and fungi, it is best to use with boric acid and soda.
Thus, boric acid for peppers is a tool that is excellent for replenishing the energy of a plant, as well as helping it adapt to constantly changing unstable conditions, adapt to the surrounding nature and soil. Boric acid perfectly disinfects plants, disinfects the soil, allows you to get rid of a large number of pests and fungal, as well as viral diseases that can provoke the development of diseases of the root system, leaf-stem system and diseases that mainly originate from the soil.
Acid as fertilizer
Under natural conditions, a gardener cannot find boron in its pure form. It is boric acid and its salts, which dissolve quite easily in liquids. Natural compounds containing boron can be present in chernozem soils, as well as in chestnut soils. However, it is almost impossible to find them on the ground, especially if they are sandy or clayey soils. Therefore, boron is a component that is extremely important to use to replenish the soil composition. Today, there are even several preparations with a high boron content. These are Organo-Bor, Microel, Mikrovit and Rexolin. Each drug is strictly individual, it should be chosen in accordance with the characteristics of the fertilizer. The gardener must follow the instructions that come with each package of the drug.
Boric acid fertilization for peppers can be done in two main ways. The first one is the root one. Basically, root feeding with boron is carried out when the plant has all the brightest signs of boron deficiency in the plant. This will require no more than two grams of the drug, which are diluted in ten liters of water. Bring the drug to complete dissolution, and then water the plants from the watering can directly under the root. After cultivation, it is best to loosen the soil a little so that the preparation does not remain in the upper soil layer, but penetrates deeper, to the very roots. The value of feeding can also be increased if the solution is mixed with organic fertilizers - mullein, or with urea. This mixture is especially useful if the plant has suddenly dropped leaves or ovary. But it is important to consider that sometimes top dressing can lead to burns. To do this, before processing with a boron-containing solution, it is necessary to water the soil with ordinary warm water without any additives.
The second method of processing peppers with boric acid is foliar feeding. It should usually be done when the plant has entered the vegetative stage of its development. The first treatment is carried out before the beginning of flowering, the second time the plant should be sprayed with boric acid at the time when budding has begun, that is, right along the flowers. The third spray of the substance can be done when the plant begins to bear fruit. For spraying, you can use a floor percentage solution, but you should also be careful to ensure that the solution is evenly distributed over the green part of the plant. For this, special nebulizers of preparations are used, which disperse the agent in the form of a light mist.
If the gardener decides to soak the seeds in boric acid, then he should prepare a solution at the rate of about 0.2 grams of boric powder per liter of warm water. Also, the tool can be made even more effective. For this, boric powder is dissolved not in ordinary water, but in an onion-manganese-ash solution. The mixture should be prepared in accordance with the following algorithm:
- the gardener should take a couple of handfuls of onion husks, pour a liter of boiling water over it. This mixture has been infused for some time.
- a liter can of wood ash is stirred into a liter of water, also thoroughly mixed
- both solutions must be mixed - onion and ash
- after that, potassium permanganate is added to the resulting mixture
- in the resulting mixture, an average of 0.3 grams of boric acid should be diluted, and also a spoonful of soda with a slide should be added, everything should be mixed very thoroughly to obtain a homogeneous mass.
Boric acid can also be applied before planting seedlings in open ground, or treat the seeds with it before planting them on seedlings. The soil is sprayed with a solution, and then carefully loosened so that the agent does not stagnate in the upper layers of the soil. You can also add some organic matter - for example, with manure before applying the drug directly to the soil.
Since boric acid for peppers is an excellent antiseptic, and we have mentioned this many times, it can very well destroy pathogenic microorganisms that provoke various diseases. Peppers should be sprayed with boric acid also in order to destroy fungi, which in their development lead to diseases such as verticillosis, phytoplasmosis, late blight, black leg - in general, many diseases that can very often be found on nightshade crops.
To spray already adult plants, it is necessary to prepare a solution in which, in addition to boric acid, potassium permanganate will also be contained. But if so, then to increase efficiency, first the plant is treated only with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, then treated with a weak solution of boric acid. Then the plant is left alone for a week, then the same treatments are performed. The result can be fixed using an iodine solution.
The yield of peppers can be influenced not only by a weakened immune system, but also by the presence of pests that are very fond of settling on plants. These are aphids, ants, ticks and slugs. Against them, boric acid powder is a very effective remedy if used on time. For ants, you can prepare a bait - boric acid, sugar and honey are dissolved in hot water. The mixture is kneaded and placed in small containers between the plants. Ants, as lovers of sweets, will immediately want to feast on the prepared mixture, but it is there that they will find their quick death.
Thus, boric acid for peppers today is one of those drugs that fights both pests and diseases. It can also increase the immunity of the plant, make it stronger and more resistant to many attacks. Peppers are quite unpretentious plants, but they can be capricious when they are at the stage of seedling development. Therefore, it is best to start treatment with boric acid as early as possible. Then the result will not be long in coming, and the gardener will receive excellent results in the form of abundant flowering and, accordingly, the same abundant fruiting.
