Boric acid for tomatoes - spraying tomatoes, benefit or harm
Content:
Almost all plants need boron feeding. Tomatoes are especially sensitive to this microelement, its lack is reflected in the taste, low productivity and the death of the ovaries. In addition, the aesthetic state of the plant, and even some loss of vitality. Boric acid for tomatoes is most often applied by spraying. In this article, we will analyze the pros and cons of such processing, and how to perform it without harming the fruits of the plant.
Boric acid for tomatoes: the benefits and harms of spraying
Spraying frequency
The lack of boron in tomatoes can be expressed in different ways:
- The leaves turn yellow and can no longer recover to a green state.
- The abundance of flowering decreases, which primarily affects fruiting.
- Reduced yield due to the dropping of the ovaries.
- Reducing the resistance of immunity to disease and, as a consequence, damage to the fruit.
Boric acid is a commonly available fertilizer, you can buy it in almost any pharmacy, it perfectly restores the boron content in plants. An important point is that this microelement accumulates in the soil in minimal amounts and you need to help the earth to maintain it at a favorable level for the plant. Feeding tomatoes with boric acid has the following effects:
1.Reduces barren flowers, and increases the number of buds.
2. Stops the ovaries from falling off.
3.Improves the palatability of the fruit due to its high sugar content.
4.Improves immunity to pests (powdery mildew) and diseases (spotting, late blight).
5. Increases the moisture resistance of the fruit.
6. The yield rises to twenty-five percent.
7. Fast and high-quality assimilation of organic and mineral nutrients.
Boron nutrition is ideal for greenhouse tomatoes; such plants are weaker than those planted and grow in open ground. Boron strengthens them and promotes an increase in green mass, which, in turn, increases fruiting.
You need to feed tomatoes wisely, like any other trace element, it is important not to overdo it in your quest to create better conditions for the plant. Excess boron can lead to burns and yellowing of the leaves, in the worst case, it will bring the plants to the death of the leaves.
Processing features
Spraying processing is not difficult and is within the power of both an experienced gardener and a novice gardener. You only need two components: a boric acid solution and a spray bottle.
The solution is prepared based on the processing tasks:
The first option: 1 to 1, 1 gram of boric acid per liter of water. This concentration will keep the plants completely from leaves to flowers, and will promote the flowering and growth of the tomato.
Second option: 1 teaspoon per liter of water will improve immunity and increase resistance to various diseases.
It is only necessary to make a solution in almost hot water, the crystals of the powder must dissolve completely, otherwise the leaves will get burned. After preparing the solution, it is necessary that it completely cool down, do not spray with a hot solution. Spraying is carried out over the area of the entire plant. It is best to choose the time for processing in the absence of the bright sun and in calm calm weather.
Boric acid for tomatoes: spraying frequency
Taking into account all the usefulness of the fertilizer, in particular the increase in disease resistance, the treatment is carried out without clearly set terms throughout the entire period of growth, development and fruiting.
There are two processing options:
1.Planned. It is performed in the following order:
- The first spraying is carried out when the buds are formed, but have not proceeded to the blooming process. This treatment activates the growth and development of buds, and will also contribute to greater flowering.
- The second stage of spraying is performed during the flowering period. This treatment accelerates the maturation of the ovaries and protects the flowers from shedding.
- The third stage of processing occurs at the time of fruiting, when the fruits have changed to their color. Eating during this growing season shortens the ripening time and makes the flavor richer and more intense.
The break between scheduled spraying should be at least ten days.
Unscheduled processing is performed as needed. The lack of a trace element in the plant is obvious even during a visual examination:
- Distortion of the shape of the leaves due to curling and yellowing, blackening of the stem.
- Falling flowers.
- Brown spots appear on the fruits.
Boric acid is an excellent fertilizer, but do not forget that everything must be done in accordance with the instructions and proportions. Only in this way you will not harm your plants and achieve good growth, large yield and abundant flowering.
