Bomareya (liana) is a climbing plant, belongs to the Alstroemeria family. She first appeared in South America. In total, about 120 species of this vine growing in nature are known. Bomarea can be grown in the garden, only it will be an annual or as a houseplant. Vine inflorescences have unusual, amazing tubular shapes. They are bright orange, deep scarlet, have a golden-sunny hue. Outside, the flowers are pinkish, and inside they are yellow-green, covered with red spots. Since bomareya is a climbing liana, its height can be about 4 m. It blooms in spring and blooms until autumn. When the flowering period of Bomarea ends, very attractive testes begin to appear. This vine is very fond of a large amount of natural light. In bomarea, the leaves are narrowed, have the shape of a spiral, due to which they very abundantly wrap around the support, next to which they are located. The leaves of the bomarea plant grow in turn, have an unusual feature - they can twist at the base of the petiole by 180 degrees. Therefore, it turns out that their lower part is on top, in turn, the upper part is on the bottom.

Bomarea, which grows in the garden, is very intolerant of cold weather, and if the temperature drops below 0 C, then it freezes and subsequently dies. In order for the root system to remain intact, in the fall it is necessary to prune the bomarea to the very roots. It is better to store it until spring in a box covered with sand or sawdust. In the spring, when the frost has already receded and the weather has become warm, the vine can be transplanted into the soil. When growing this plant indoors, it is better to place the pot on the west or east side and avoid exposure to direct sunlight. In summer, the temperature should be no more than 18 C, because Bomarea is very hard at a higher temperature, and in winter it is necessary to maintain about 7 C. Watering this plant is necessary as needed, i.e. focus on the drying up of the earth. Also, do not allow the water to stagnate. In summer, watering can be done once a week, and in winter, once every two. Bomarea loves high humidity (up to 65%) and daily moderate spraying. The mixture of soil for this vine should contain humus, sod and deciduous soil, peat. The composition of the soil should include deciduous soil, sod, humus and peat. It is better to pour sand at the bottom, and make drainage from small pebbles or expanded clay. It is necessary to transplant a bomarea every spring, while it is better to take a pot a little more than the previous one. All soil must be replaced with a new one. Fertilizer can be used special for geraniums and it is better to apply it once a month during the phases of active growth of bomarea.
How does this vine reproduce?

Bomarea can be propagated in two ways: by seed and by dividing the bush. In the first method, certain features must be observed. When sowing, the soil must be moist. Seeds are poured onto the surface of the ground and covered with a bag or film. Do not forget to open it for periodic ventilation and spraying. The first 3 weeks need to maintain a constant temperature of 22 C for seedlings, the next 3 weeks - no more than 5 C, and then again 22 C.During this period, the seedlings need a lot of light, then they will stretch out faster. It is better to plant Bomarea after the appearance of the first 2-3 leaves. The second method (dividing the bush) involves dividing the bomarea into separate roots with leaves. Each part is planted in separate pots or containers. The soil in them should be prepared as described above. The air temperature should be maintained at about 20 C. Also, do not forget about the systematic moistening of the soil.
Potential pests

The spider mite is the main pest of the bomarea vine. It occurs when the air is too dry. When it appears, the plant is subject to insecticide treatment. A warm shower is a preventive measure for this pest. Subject to these simple rules, you can grow such an unusual vine at home or on a plot. Its brightness and beauty will always delight you and your guests.
