Diseases and pests of the rose
Not a single plant, including a rose, is immune from damage by all kinds of diseases and pests. In order to more effectively prevent their development, to save the plant from an illness, you just need to know your enemies by sight. Rose pests are very small and insidious, so you need to find them as soon as possible.
Let's take a look at the most common rose pests and diseases.
Powdery mildew
A dangerous disease of the rose, which affects plants most often in both indoor and outdoor conditions. The first symptoms and signs begin to appear, as a rule, closer to the second half of the summer season.
By this time, the disease is rapidly progressing and spreads to neighboring plants, affecting everything at lightning speed.
Those buds, shoots and leaves that were subject to the harmful effects of powdery mildew begin to become covered with a layer of whitish bloom, subsequently deformed and dry out.
This rose disease, however, has a slightly different effect on different varieties of roses, so you need to be especially careful. Note that plants with thick, leathery structure leaves are less affected than plants with thinner and more vulnerable leaves.
To prevent the development of this disease of the rose, timely pruning is recommended, followed by the removal of all already affected parts of the plant that have died out or are just beginning to die off.
Subsequently, do not be too lazy to subject the soil where the rose grows to deep digging. The bushes should be sprayed with chemicals from a spray bottle. In the early spring period, from powdery mildew, the plant must be treated with a solution of copper sulfate at the rate of 100 grams per 10 liters of water.
Rust
Rose disease, which got its name from the characteristic rusty color of the affected parts of the plant. The first sign of infection is the appearance of peculiar pads - rounded spots in shades from orange to yellow, which are usually localized on shoots and leaves.
The spread of the disease occurs through fungal spores. In the same way as in the case of powdery mildew, different varieties of roses are affected in different ways - roses belonging to the remontant and red-leaved roses are extremely vulnerable to this disease, while the hybrid tea and polyanthous groups are more resistant to the harmful effect. To save the plant from rust, summer residents use the drug "Hom". They should regularly spray the rose, observing the proportions of the solution - about 40 grams are diluted in 10 liters of water. This amount is usually sufficient for processing 100 square meters, which is also an economical option.
Rose pests Rose aphids
Insect pest of the rose, which settles in whole colonies right on the leaves of young age, as well as in the area of shoots and buds. The harm that the rose aphid inflicts on the plant is the suction of natural juice from its tissues. This entails inevitable consequences in the form of weakening of the rose, twisting of its shoots and leaves.
The reproduction of this pest is characterized as quite fast; even several generations can develop in open ground. That is why, at the first signs of defeat, it is necessary to take all appropriate extermination measures.
Summer residents often fight against rosacea aphids with the help of specialized chemicals - treatment is carried out by spraying the plant before and after flowering.
The most popular example of such drugs is Iskra, from which a solution of 10 grams of a substance per 10 liters of water is prepared. Spraying, as a rule, is recommended to be repeated after an interval of 7 to 10 days.
Rose pests Spider mites
A pest of roses, the main activity of which occurs in the hot summer period. It is localized mainly on the underside of the leaves, it also sucks out the natural sap of the plant. Because of this, the leaves begin to weaken, subsequently dry up - they die off and fall off.
The drug “Agrovertin” showed the greatest efficiency in the fight against this pest of roses, with the help of which a solution is prepared in proportions of 2 milliliters of substance per 1 liter of water. Consumption is determined by the value of 1 liter of solution per 10 square meters.
Roses should be sprayed during the growing season, maintaining an interval of about 20 days. Also, a good result was shown by the use of colloidal sulfur, which is used to treat plants as part of a solution, also by spraying.
Proportions - about 40 grams of the substance is diluted in 10 liters of water. The optimal consumable amount is considered to be 1 liter for 5 rose bushes at once.
Rose leaf roll
A caterpillar that damages the rose by eating at the edges of the leaves, damaging them. If you do not prevent the activity of these pests in time, they can ultimately contribute to the complete exposure of the bush, as they are extremely voracious.
For the control of pests of roses with leaf rollers, the preparation "Iskra" is also used at the rate of 10 grams per 10 liters of water. The solution is enough for an area of up to 50 square meters.
Clicker beetle
This pest of roses is also called wireworm... Its larvae damage the main organ - the root system of roses, as well as plant stems. The problem is that they tend to gather in more humid places, as they are very attracted to such an environment.
As soon as the soil begins to dry out, the pests of the rose burrow deeper into the ground in search of moisture. In order to remove the pest of the rose from the site, it will be necessary to treat the contaminated soil with the drug "Bazudin".
It should be evenly spread out in places of possible settlement of larvae. The calculation for this rose pest is characterized by a value of 15 to 20 grams per 10 or 15 square meters.
